Spurs' battle for Champions League football appeared to take a blow last night after their talisman, Gareth Bale, was stretchered off during the Europa League clash with Basel. Bale's ankle twisted to right angles, forcing him off the pitch late in last night's match. But manager Andre Villas Boas has since delivered some optimistic news.
Manchester City defender Micah Richards is expected to be our for four months after undergoing an operation on Monday to repair a torn meniscus.
Richards, who picked up the injury against Swansea on Saturday is expected to miss at least 20 matches, and is a big loss for a Man City side that has struggled defensively all season.

The unfortunate news that Liverpool forward Fabio Borini is set to have surgery on his ankle injury sustained while on international duty with Italy this past week has seen the Reds left in just the position that manager Brendan Rodgers has feared would happen.

USA Wins 2012 U-20 World Cup Beating Germany 1-0 [SoccerNation.com] - "Kealia Ohai scored
a 44th-minute goal to end Germany's record shutout streak en route to the USA's third World Cup
crown in this tournament's history.
With the start of the season quickly creeping up on the calendar and the transfer window being open
until the end of August, Arsenal, like most other Premier League teams, aren't sure who will be in
the line-up on opening day and who might not be with the club anymore.
One thing looks certain though, and that's that Gunners midfielders Tomas Rosicky and Jack
Wilshere won't be ready to play when the season kicks off.
The third World War which is currently brewing over the Great Charlie Adam Tackle of
2012 is quite something, because if you'd read the reports, with Charlie being called a
"coward," you'd think ol' Charlie came into the challenge with an arsenal of medieval weaponry and
a dancing street gang.
Manchester United forward Federico Macheda realizes that spending loan spells at other clubs
reminds him of how much he wants to remain a Red Devil in the long run.
Macheda, 20, arrived at United as a teenager in 2008 but has since been sent out on loan at
Sampdoria and Queens Park Rangers.
Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert believes star striker Darren Bent will have a major part to
play in the club's plans this season.
The new Villa chief will be able to unleash the England striker from the start of the new
Premier League campaign after Bent recovered from the ankle injury that kept him out of Euro
2012.
When FC Dallas hit the practice field on Tuesday morning, the club's first practice since a 3-3 draw at San Jose on Saturday night, the club did so without center back George John, who has been recovering from an ankle injury. John, a third-year defender who had a trial with West Ham United of England's second division earlier this year, did a session with homegrown forward Jonathan Top, who is also currently out with an ankle injury right after his teammates had ended practice and a member of the FCD medical staff.
A bit of good news came out of Tuesday's training session for FC Dallas. 2010 MLS MVP David
Ferreira, who has missed the last 15 months with an ankle injury, returned to practice in his boots
for the first time in some time. FCD head coach Schellas Hyndman elaborated.
After being sidelined for three weeks, David Beckham has recovered from an ankle injury and could make his return to action for the Los Angeles Galaxy on Sunday when they take on the Colorado Rapids.
Beckham resumed training this week and is on the verge of returning to action after missing the team's past two MLS victories against the Colorado Rapids and Toronto FC.
In climbing, everything above 26,000 feet is the Death Zone In 6 competitive games
in Seattle (4 in MLS, 2 in USOC). the Rapids have lost 6 times, scoring 4 goals and allowing 16.
Tomorrow the Rapids will enter their Death Zone again as they're in my hometown for a late game.
Both teams are coming off of 4th of July games, Seattle was held to a scoreless draw in Sandy.
There's some good news on the Arsenal injury front as midfielder Jack Wilshere is back in training again after more than a year on the sidelines due to an ankle injury. Wilshere injured his ankle about 14 months ago during a pre-season match against the New York Red Bulls at the Emirates. He attempted to return to the squad a couple of times last season, but then suffered setbacks that kept him out of action.
According to reports from ESPN, Arsenal keeper Wojciech Szczesny will miss tomorrow's game following an ankle injury. The Polish international has not traveled with the squad for the Champions League clash against Montpellier.
Manchester United is considering a £10million move for Mexico's Olympic star Hector Herrera.
The 22-year-old midfielder was the inspiration behind Mexico's gold medal victory and has been on
United's radar for over a year with Liverpool also very keen.
Pachuca sporting director Andres Fassi has announced they had had a fresh approach from United
requesting permission to approach the starlet who is nicknamed 'Zorro'.
Thierry Henry wants current Arsenal captain Robin van
Persie to extend his contract with the club but says that the Gunners will be fine even if
the Dutchman is sold this summer.
Roy Hodgson has announced a 24-man squad for England's upcoming World Cup Qualifying matches
against Moldova (September 7th) and Ukraine (September 11th).
It's a squad with all England based players with several from Chelsea, Manchester City, and
Manchester United. Ashley Cole will miss the Moldova match due to an ankle injury but might be
available for the Ukraine match.
While Manchester United was able to enter the win column with a 3-2 win over Fulham after losing
their season debut to Everton last weekend, it was not all good news for the Red Devils, as star
Wayne Rooney went down with a leg injury. After attempting to deflect Fulham's Hugo Rodallega's
shot, Rooney had his thigh cut open by Rodallega's cleat after he stepped on Rooney's leg.
Italy and Germany are tremendous historic rivals; as two of Europe's most powerful footballing
nations, any match between these two squads is intense and there is usually something on the line.
Although this match probably won't be as epic as the battle in Dortmund in the 2006 World Cup, it
is still highly-anticipated and should be plenty exciting.
Robbie Rogers has a new place to play until this winter.
Rogers was loaned Thursday from Leeds United to League One side Stevenage, where he will play
for former Colorado Rapids manager Gary Smith. The loan extends until the end of 2012, at which
point he will return to Leeds.
It appears Robbie Rogers' brief tenure with Leeds United could be coming to an end.
The U.S. national team midfielder has been placed on the club's transfer list, manager Neil
Warnock said. Rogers signed with Leeds as a free agent in December after five years with the
Columbus Crew.
Colombian striker Jose Moreno waived by the Revolution on Monday. (Photo: Kari

Advertised as the New England Revolution's new number 9 back in February, Jose Moreno came to
the club on loan from Colombian side Once Caldas with high expectations. From the beginning,
nothing seemed to go as planned and now Moreno's time with the club is over after being waived on
Aug.
Nil-nil is not often a fair result, but on a night where the New England Revolution squandered
early chances, and the Columbus Crew played a tight defensive formation, 0-0 is a fair result. With
each team taking a point away, there was absolutely no movement in the Eastern Conference leaving
New England in sixth place, which is just outside of the last spot.
Tim Cahill will make his New York Red Bulls debut at Red Bull Arena Tuesday night, as the Red Bulls
host Tottenham in the Barclays New York Cup (7 p.m., ESPN2/ESPN3.com).
Cahill, who is in the starting XI, will look to replicate Thierry Henry's feat of scoring
against Tottenham in his Red Bulls debut, something he did two summers ago.
Roberto and Nevets are joined by movie critic Shawn Levy (aka Bickle). Topics include: Kris Boyd
won a 2.4 million pound settlement against his former club in Turkey. Scottish papers have forward
Kenny Miller linked with the Timbers. Wallace came back from international duty with an ankle
injury. A look ahead to the match with the LA Galaxy and we talk Footy movies!
Brendan Rodgers has left the door open for a return to the Liverpool first team for forgotten man
Alberto Aquilani.
The Italian arrived in a blaze of publicity in 2009 for a fee of £20m while still recovering from
surgery on an ankle injury.
But the 28-year-old failed to settle on Merseyside, making just 18 appearances in total for
Liverpool - half of which were as a substitute.
Three points on the board as USA starts its 2014 qualifying. How those three points were
achieved is debatable. For those who see the cup as half full, the USA created chances at a
phenomenal rate. For those more pessimistic, they just could not score and the scoreline should
have been doubled.
If Germany is to defeat Italy in the Euro 2012 semifinals and advance the the tournament finale,
they might have to do it without one of their key midfielders.
Bastian Schweinsteiger is questionable for Germany's semifinal bout on Thursday against Andrea
Pirlo and the rest of the Azzurri with an ankle injury.
After an exciting experience representing my country during the world cup two years ago, I am
very happy to reprise my role as Dutch Futbolita for this European Championship. During the next
couple of weeks (let's hope Oranje will participate all the way to the end of the show) I will
update you all on the Dutch NT and the way the Euros are perceived in Holland.
This article titled "Euro 2012: France's Yann M'Vila makes progress but is a doubt for England"
was written by Marcus Christenson, for guardian.co.uk on Friday 8th June 2012 09.14 UTC
The France midfielder Yann M'Vila is unlikely to be fit to face England on Monday 11 June
despite making a "spectacular recovery" from his ankle injury.
This article titled "Euro 2012: Hard times sharpen Danny Welbeck's England appetite" was written
by Louise Taylor, for The Guardian on Tuesday 5th June 2012 22.00 UTC
It may have happened slightly later than originally envisaged but Danny Welbeck is delighted
finally to be celebrating his first goal for England.
The Dutch squad took their Official Team Portraits at their training ground in
Hoenderloo yesterday afternoon, as part of UEFA's pre-tournament procedures.
Despite the slight rain, Wesley Sneijder, Ibrahim Afellay, Arjen Robben, van
Bommel and co' all lined up in a row to have their photo taken.
Arsenal transfer target Yann M'Vila's hopes of playing in Euro 2012 could well be over after the
defensive midfielder suffered a horrific ankle injury in a 'friendly' between France and Serbia on
Thursday evening. M'Vila was stretched off just 4 minutes into the match after a challenge from
Dusan Tadic, only to return to the [.
In their last training session before flying to LA to take on the Galaxy tomorrow, the Timbers
found themselves in the middle of a much more busy training facility that normal. With the usual
practice taking place alongside a Tualatin Hills United Soccer Club tournament and a tour for
sponsors of the team, the atmosphere around the Timbers training facility was much more lively that
normal.
The Portland Timbers trained as usual at the Timbers' training facility in Beaverton this
morning. Players stayed out on the field until well after noon today, taking advantage of the
almost-summer sun. We were not allowed to see any of the players' post-training activities, so I
don't have anything to report on that footing.
Gerard Pique and Shakira announce that they are expecting their first child. The pop star and Barcelona FC player who is currently out with an ankle injury were rumored to be expecting their first child as far back as last June. No word on when the couple are actually due. Hopefully, the will not disappoint us and follow the trend of celebrities who give their babies wacky names.
Javi Martinez is officially a Bayern Munich player.
After an on-again, off-again transfer saga, the Spanish international has completed his move
from Athletic Bilbao to the German giants for a €40 million fee that was necessary to trigger a
buy-out clause in his contract.
Since this blog was founded in late 2010/early 2011, we've had a lot to say about Zak Boggs. Not
all of it has been positive. However, this last time what we'd like to say is "good luck." The
Revolution released this afternoon that Boggs, a third-year midfielder, has retired from soccer to
accept a Fullbright Scholarship for medical sciences at Leicester University in England.
