FOXBOROUGH, Mass.

The team left for Hawai'i today. My sister, brother-in-law, and cousins leave for Hawai'i this week (though not for the tournament). Me? I'm stuck in cold Denver. Before they left the team made some cuts from training camp. Aaron Pitchkolan, Issac Cowles, Sterling Copeland, Jefferson Angulo, Daniel Frias, Alanso Jimenez, and Masaki Hemmi were let go.

No Eddie Johnson In Commerce City

Yesterday Montreal used its #1 spot in the allocation order to take Eddie Johnson with the idea of trading him. Colorado was the expected destination but at the last minute Seattle swooped in, trading Mike Fucito and Lamar Neagle for him.

At that price I'm fine with not getting Eddie Johnson.

Colorado faced Chivas USA in a scrimmage at the HDC today. A late Qunicy Amarikwa goal from a Steven Emory assist gave the burgundy boys a 1-0 win. Of course its preseason so its meaningless but wins are always better than losses. The starting XI (trialists makred with a *):

Angulo* - Cummings - MullanLarentowicz - Castrillon - MastroeniZapata* - Marshall - Wynne - KimuraPickens
After subs the team finished with the the following lineup:

Melbourne Victory Mess: Actually is it Ernie's midfield legacy?

Football in the Capital at related • 0 views
It started with Ernie - Mehmet inherited and added to the mess and now look where we are.

The Victory midfield has been a debacle since Fred left. His fast running midfield added much to Archie Thompson and a younger Danny Allsopp's firepower but how many years ago was that.

And was the style sustainable in Asia - or even the A-League.

21,000 rocked the Adelaide Oval last night as United beat Melbourne Victory 2-1.

Wonderful atmosphere, wonderful players on show. Too many to mention but Marvin Angulo for Victory continues to catch the eye.

As did Travis Dodd with his winner - what was Michael Petkovic doing - make that all season.

Congratulations Sydney

Although this year has seen crowd levels drop off from their stellar highs of the previous years I must say I cannot remember a more exciting race for the Premier Plate in the A-leagues short history.

Congratulations must be extended to Sydney for taking out what became a three horse race late in the year when Gold Coast, Melbourne and Sydney all showed that they are a class above the rest of the competition.

Showdown

And so it all comes down to next Sunday at the SFS for the premiers' plate. The A-League's apparatchiks, after a season of poor crowds, can afford a little grin of satisfaction...even if they must be cursing themselves for scheduling the game for Sydney rather than Melbourne!

The initiative for the encounter must be with the hosts, with both Kevin Muscat and Archie Thompson unavailable.

Game 1 and well i should admit i was worried.

A couple of weeks ago we had a friendly against Sevilla and we all know how that went down.
Not pleasant.

And sure it was a friendly.

And yes we didnt play all our stars.

But still. Its Sevilla. The team that knocked us out of la Copa so unjustly.

A decent win today against a pretty poor Maritimo side in the opening leg of the first round of the UEFA Cup, 1-0 on a goal by Fernando Morientes.

The 32-year old striker evaded numerous challenges from the Maritimo defense after just 12 minutes to fire home. Morientes was part of a physically imposing forward line on the night, paired with Serbian Nikola Zigic.

Her Majesty, the Queen, has been having a bash at Yuletide messages for over a half a century now and they are still tediously unwatchable to all but those who pen letters to the Daily Telegraph or get uppity over stories about local councils banning Christmas decorations. However, this should give hope to Levante manager, Giani de Biasi, who attempted his own annual message of joy and inspiration to his constituents - and failed spectacularly.

Left-wing is a position we are going to have to address in the very near future. I don't know how many years King Harry has left in him, but I'm gonna guess about two and he'll become more and more of a squad player as his time comes to a close. We have Ryan Babel to play over there, but in truth, he's more of a straight attacker than a proper winger.
