Sometimes I'm not surprised that online piracy is so rampant when it comes to soccer. Trying to
find out who has the rights to a game or tournament is very difficult, and even when you find a
stream, you're not sure whether it's an official one or not.
Take, for example, the African Nations Cup which kicks off in a few hours from Angola.

While you would expect Major League Soccer to be behind the giants of Europe and South America
in the race for strongest league in the world, the folks at the International Federation of
Football History and Statistics (IFFHS) may have taken things a little too far.

The hosts managed to blow a four goal lead in fifteen minutes to share a point with Mali;
Angola were leading 4-1 with two minutes left, then Freddy Kanoute
(Sevilla), Sadou Keita (Barcelona) and Mustapha
Yatabare (Clermont Foot Auvergne 63 in France's Ligue 2) scored to level the
game, with the last two goals coming in four minutes of injury time.
If you're unfamiliar with World Cup Blog, then allow me to explain: The blog you're reading now
is the front page, but the core of WCB is the multitude of team specific blogs, including one for
each of the World Cup 2010 teams.
The authors of these team blogs have forgotten more about their sides than I'll ever know, so I
decided to tap that knowledge by asking each of them a set of 10 questions.
Terrible news broke today that the Togo team bus was attacked on its way to the Africa Cup of
Nations in Angola, with machine gun fire leaving the driver dead and several players hurt.
The incident has many questioning the safety of players for the World Cup in South Africa.
In the comments to the previous post about today's attack on Togo's team bus in Cabinda
(reminding Henry Winter that it's part of Angola, and not South Africa), Andrew Guest suggested we
post a map of Cabinda to illustrate its complex relation to Angola. As we can see, Cabinda is an
enclave of Angola, with what is called Zaire on the map (the Democratic Republic of the Congo)
between it and Angola proper.
Mali staged a remarkable comeback in the last 11 minutes of Sunday's Africa Cup of Nations 2010
opener to tie host Angola 4-4. Saudi Arabia-based striker Flavio opened the scoring for Angola
with a 36th-minute diving header before adding a second in the 42nd. Gilberto's and Manucho's
second half penalties for Angola agave the hosts what appeared to be [.
I guess most of us were worried about losing Song to the Africa Cup of Nations. Now that he is
back and I am assuming he will play against United, it is worthwhile taking a look at just how
badly did we miss the Cameroon hard-man.
Song left for Angola after helping us win the Cup tie at West Ham.
Egypt won the 2010 Africa Cup of Nations yesterday, beating Ghana 1-0 in the final with the
above 85th minute goal form Mohamed Nagy, a.k.a Gedo, a.k.a the world's greatest super sub. Why is
the 25 year old Al-Ittihad Al-Sakndary player the world's greatest super sub? Here's why:
Gedo didn't start any of Egypt's six games at Angola 2010, and yet somehow finished the
tournament as top scorer with five goals.
Puma has released a TV commercial to promote its brand for the 2010 World Cup. And it is,
without a doubt, my favorite World Cup commercial of all that I have seen so far.
"The spot is homage to the soul of the game of football. Shot on location in Angola, Ghana and
The Ivory Coast and soundtracked by ‘Going On' by Gnarls Barkley, it features PUMA players Samuel
Eto'o, Gervinho, Emmanuel Eboue and Mohammed Zidan," according to magazine Cretique.
The mascot for the African Cup of Nations is not an artistic impression of a cheerful looking
Drogba as previously reported.
It is instead an artistic impression of the Giant Sable antelope, which is a national symbol of
Angola. It has the scientific name, Hippotragus Niger Variani.
Can host nation Angola emerge from a tricky group?
The tournament preview is up, you've seen the African Cup of Nations 2010 match schedule, now let's
crack onto the group previews. Here is our team-by-team guide to the competition, which kicks off
in Angola this weekend.
Group A
Algeria - Angola - Malawi - Mali
Algeria
Algeria is a country that has been sat until recently in the shadows of international wilderness.
FC Dallas has announced the signing of Aziz Ansah, a 29-year-old defender from Ghana. He will be
eligible to play pending the receipt of his International Transfer Certificate.
"Aziz will be a good addition to the FC Dallas defense," said FC Dallas head coach Schellas
Hyndman. "He has the ability to play in many different positions, having played in all four of the
defensive positions as well as defensive/holding center midfield.

According to the BBC, two players from the Togolese football squad in Angola for the African
Nations Cup have been injured following an attack on their team bus this afternoon. We'll keep an
eye on the situation.
UPDATE: ESPN Soccernet is reporting three players and the bus driver were
injured and quotes Nantes striker Thomas Dossevi as saying that the team no longer wants to take
part in the tournament.
So on the eve of the African Cup of Nations 2010, African football's jewel in the crown, tragedy
strikes. As was reported earlier, the Togo national team bus was ambushed by gunmen and shot at on
it's way from the Democratic Republic of Congo to the team's base in Cabinda, where they were due
to play their Group B Cup of Nations matches.
Gunmen opened fire on the coach carrying Togo's national football squad to African Cup of
Nations in Angola, killing the driver and wounding nine others, including two players.
L'Equipe said the wounded players were Serge Akakpo, who plays for Romanian first division side
Vaslui, and reserve goalkeeper Kodjovi Obilale, who is with French fourth division team
Pontivy.
Folks, I have a question from a reader. Denise Grady, a loyal fan of the Colorado Rapids and the
University of Colorado soccer team, wants to know if there are any public viewing venues for games
of the African Cup of Nations.
Denise says the games are available online at MyAfricanFootball.
When we hear about League teams complaining about the playing time that they have to give up for
their stars to play for a National team we usually just scoff and say "Get over it!" However, now
we see why people complain.
The Togolese National Soccer Team's bus was attacked by machine gun-toting lunatics at the
Angola border today ahead of the African Nations Cup.
It has been a day of conflicting news and uncertainty following yesterday's deadly attack on the
team bus of the Togolese national team.
With players and other staff members of the Togolese national team, officials of the Togolese FA
and government, officials of the Angolan FA and government, CAF, FIFA, Sepp Blatter and a range of
European clubs all releasing statements and bits and pieces of sometimes contradictory information,
it's difficult to give a definitive picture of the current situation.
The news started coming through early on Saturday morning and as the information became clearer,
it was soon apparent that the whole African Cup Of Nations would now be tainted. When the dust had
settled, 3 members of the Togo party were dead and several were seriously injured. Angolan rebels
had attacked the team bus as it drove through the dangerous territory of Cabinda.
Big Story
As Tom wrote earlier today, it is unclear whether the tournament should continue in light of
three deaths and emerging evidence of cynical political maneuvering in the Angolan government's
decision to host games in Cabinda; it appears it for the time being it will, as Angola kicked off
this evening against Mali.
During my brief six months working in Angola between 2002 and 2003, a favorite pastime of mine
when driving around Luanda was to try to identify the replica team shirts worn by ubiquitous street
soccer teams playing in any available space. Brazil's canary yellow was the most popular, but the
range was impressive; I saw complete teams kitted out in the reds of Manchester United, the
burgundy of Portugal, the green stripes of Sporting Lisbon, the yellow/orange/black on white design
of Germany, even the all whites of Real Madrid—a hopelessly futile choice in the face of the
city's red dirt and grimy haze.
Togo's Prime Minister Gilbert Huongbo has denied the country wants to re-enter the Africa Cup of
Nations.
Togo pulled out of the tournament in Angola after a gun attack on their team bus left three
people dead last Friday.
There have been numerous conflicting reports since concerning the team's continued participation
in the event.
When you're good enough to ply your trade in Europe and play international football,
you've got an easy life, right? Ask Malian captain and Real Madrid player Mahamadou
Diarra (pictured.)
Diarra's life was so glamourous yesterday, in fact, that he and his team were reduced to begging
security staff to allow them onto the pitch for their scheduled training time.
Cameroon were 1-0 down to Zambia last night, and genuinely in danger of an early Africa Cup of
Nations 2010 exit. Until. In the 68th minute, Geremi (who plays for either Newcastle or
Ankaragücü, depending on who you ask) sprinted to prevent the ball going out for a throw and
swung a hopeful ball in the general direction of the penalty area.
Malaui.
Group A was decided on Monday as Angola and Algeria punched their tickets into the next round as
they both shared honors in their final group match. This left Mali out despite their impressive win
against Malawi 3-1. They would be gone because of the first tiebreaker being head-to-head matchups-
that topic became a big discussion point afterwards.
Mali triumphed over Malawi but failed to progress as Algeria and Angola played out a
controversial goalless draw that saw both sides go through and has led to Mali filing a match
fixing complaint against their fellow group members.

We're over the halfway stage now in Angola and it has proved to be everything I hoped for;
excitement, bags of goals, ridiculous refereeing, gravity defying longshots and abysmal defending.
What I didn't hope for was the terrible Togo shooting incident that overshadowed the earlier part
of the tournament.
There were two major surprises in the African Cup quarterfinals today. In the first one, the home
side of Angola were surprisingly eliminated by Ghana, who without their star Michael Essien managed
a somewhat fortunate and hard-fought 1-0 victory on a goal by Stade Rennais' Asamoah Gyan. Ghana is
set to play the winner of Zambia-Nigeria, and a match against their West African rivals Nigeria
would
Drogba's dream of being king of Africa will have to wait again. In 2006 Ivory coast lost the
finals to Egypt in a penalty shootout,in 2008 they lost 4 -1 in the semis to the Egyptians again
and in 2010 they fell to a late, late injury time winner.Three times unlucky.
The Ivory Coast press have been less kind in their headlines.

With J Hutcherson -- Is it even worth discussing the Confederation of African Football's latest
indignity towards Togo? Holding up FIFA's concept of no government involvement, Togo won't be
allowed to participate in the next two Cup of Nations. Why? Because their government encouraged the
National Team to return home rather than bow to pressure to play days after they were attacked at
the Angola border.
