It began in terror and ended in outrage. When history comes to judge the 2010 African Cup of
Nations I imagine it will not do so too kindly - a tournament which promised so much but, thanks to
a fatal mixture of politics, terror and head-bangingly insensitive executive decisions, became less
about the spectacle on the pitch and more about affairs off it.

Unlike previous tournaments, this Africa Cup of Nations was not so much a 'football festival' and
far more, it often seemed, a three-week advert for hosts Angola. After the final, I asked the local
organising committee's executive director whether the 2010 Nations Cup would be remembered for the
football or the deadly attack on Togo, to which Antonio Mangueira replied 'the football and we had
some wonderful fireworks too'.

The 2010 Africa Cup of Nations is over. Though I usually love the tournament, I won't be
remembering this edition fondly. For several reasons.
First and foremost, Angola 2010 will mostly be remembered for the attack on the Togo team bus,
in which three people died and many more thought they were going to die.

Egypt won the 2010 Africa Cup of Nations yesterday, beating Ghana 1-0 in the final with the
above 85th minute goal form Mohamed Nagy, a.k.a Gedo, a.k.a the world's greatest super sub. Why is
the 25 year old Al-Ittihad Al-Sakndary player the world's greatest super sub? Here's why:
Gedo didn't start any of Egypt's six games at Angola 2010, and yet somehow finished the
tournament as top scorer with five goals.

With J Hutcherson -- Is it even worth discussing the Confederation of African Football's latest
indignity towards Togo? Holding up FIFA's concept of no government involvement, Togo won't be
allowed to participate in the next two Cup of Nations. Why? Because their government encouraged the
National Team to return home rather than bow to pressure to play days after they were attacked at
the Angola border.

Not a classic game by any means, but it was very, VERY tight and so I couldn't take my eyes off
it. Either side could have won, but in the end Mohamed Gedo's excellent curling shot, scored in the
85th minute, earned Egypt their third ACN title in a row, and a record seventh overall.

With all the hype of the Togo team attack, the African Cup of Nations in Angola was overshadowed by
accusations and fear, but a fantastic final provided Egypt their third African Cup of Nations in a
row, and their seventh of all time.
After beating their ultimate rivals Algeria 4-0 in the semifinal, they went on to play a weakened
Ghana side.

Togo have been banned from taking part in the next two African Cup of Nations tournaments in
2012 and 2014 for sitting out the tournament this year after the attack on their team bus.
The Confederation of African football (CAF) have imposted this ridiculous penalty on the team
because of "government inteference" in the game.

FIFA and its confederations take political interference into sporting affairs pretty seriously.
Perhaps too seriously, given certain circumstances.
The decision of CAF to ban Togo from the next two Africa Cup of Nations because of the decision
of the Togolese government to withdraw the team from the current tournament is defended by the
confederation as follows:
The Executive Committee of the Confederation of African Football met on 30 January 2010 and
examined the withdrawal of Togo national team from the Orange Africa Cup of Nations 2010.

The former Reds winger does not blame Benitez for Liverpool's current struggles, saying that the
club over-achieved last season with the players he had available.
Barnes also insists that it will not be a disaster for Liverpool if they do not qualify for next
season's Champions League.

The final round of the group games saw several well fancied sides struggling for form and in
danger of going out, but Group B's final game saw Ghana edge it 1-0 to progress with Ivory Coast in
to the quarter finals. It had certainly been a weird group with Mali pulling out but eventually,
the two major sides got through, though Burkina Faso can be proud at their efforts.
