Today began with a little drive to see the German Women's National Team train. The trip from our
hotel was about 15 minutes through some very scenic spots.
FARO, Portugal (March 3, 2010) – The U.S. Women's National Team scored twice in the first half
and once in the second to defeat Germany 3-2 in the championship game of the 2010 Algarve Cup.
Carli Lloyd's goal in the 18th minute was followed by a powerful header from Abby Wambach four
minutes later, staking the U.
Last month Marta was awarded the World Footballer of the Year trophy for the forth time. I have
said it before: Marta is a great player. But in ten years, only three women have been given this
award (Mia Hamm got it twice, & Birgit Prinz three times). Since 2001 (the year FIFA started
awarding this trophy to female players), 9 men received the award with Ronaldinho winning it twice.
The US Women's team emphatically demonstrated they deserve their number one ranking on Saturday
in a commanding 4-0 victory over number two ranked Germany. Two Philadelphia Independence players
contributed assists along the way.
The first fifteen minutes of play showed what a danger the German team can be.
