Liverpool owner John W Henry along with his not-unattractive WAG, Linda
Pizzuti enjoyed a spot of dinner with Luis Suarez's agent at London
restaurant last night, as the two parties continue to negotiate a £15 million move for the
Uruguayan flesh-eater.
Mathias Kniepeiss/Getty Images(Bleacher Report)What comes to mind you think of the term home-field
advantage? To some clubs it is just a saying and a hopeful truth, while to others it is a true
existence as their stadium and their fans have a profound effect on the opposition.
To say that football is a game that brings out the full passion of its fans in an understatement in
many different categories.
Finally, Liverpool look set to sign French winger Sylvain Marveaux from French League 1 side,
Rennes.
The deal has been on the cards since before last Christmas with the player visited Liverpoool and
watched our defeat to Wolves, I think, under then Manager, Roy Hodson. The player was accompanied at
that time by Liverpool Director of Football, Daniel Comolli and it is believed that his interest in
the winger has now been sanctioned by Kenny Dalglish and FSG.
Is Raul Meirles being prepared to be sold by Liverpool FC to make way for Rafa Benitez's downfall
in Alberto Aquilani.
Signed by Roy Hodgson last season in a £10.5 million deal, the Portugese International had an
exceptional second-half of the season under Kenny Dalglish, scoring five great goals in 31
appearances for the Reds.
Italian midfielder Alberto Aquilani has expressed excitement over his return to Liverpool after
negotiations with Juventus came to a halt.
Aquilani, who thrived in a loan spell with the Turin outfit last season, was poised to extend
his stay in the Serie A but Juve's budget did not allow them to meet the price in the pre-agreed
purchase clause, particularly after they unveiled four major signings in recent days.
Now that would scupper the entire tactical structure of the cavemen who visit the Home of
Football tonight.
On a serious note, tonight is bloody huge, massive... a monsterous game of football...
FAR MORE IMPORTANT THAN THE CUP FINAL.
For me, and many Gooners, the ultimate prize is to be the Champions of your country, to
the rule the roost in your homeland.
With news this evening that Rennes winger Sylain Marveaux has failed his medical at Anfield (as I
feared).
What should we do?
Sign him, fix him up or forget him?
Personaly, I would take a gamble on the guy, he is on a free transfer and once-fit would be a great
asset to our team.
As disappointing as the end result was, especially after a cracking first half that saw
Liverpool take the game to Sunderland, there were still positives to take away from Saturday's
opening day draw at Anfield. Luis Suarez may have quite obviously tired in the second half, but it
was his first game back and from a fitness standpoint served the same purpose as the early
preseason games in China did for most of the squad, and before he did run out of gas he showed the
same deadly form that he brought to Liverpool throughout the second half of last season and to
Uruguay when he was named player of the tournament for leading his country to Copa America
glory.
FC Porto manager Andre Villas-Boas has agreed to become the new Liverpool manager next season.
Gazzetta dello Sport reports the 33-year-old rejected a move to Roma because he has already signed
a pre-contract with the Anfield club.
The Portuguese is regarded as the hottest prospect in football management and has been labelled the
‘next Jose Mourinho'.
The two prized England Under 21 internationals Jordan Henderson and Phil Jones have recently
moved from their respective clubs to two North West giants separated by the East Lancs road. As
Liverpool were busy tying up a deal for Sunderland midfield all rounder Jordan Henderson,
Manchester United were seemingly busy beating other Premier League heavyweights, including Arsenal
and Tottenham Hotspur, to the signing of Blackburn Rovers defender Phil Jones.

After bringing in a bevvy of new faces over the summer, it seems that Kenny Dalglish is keen to
move on a few of his fringe players/dead wood before September rolls around, with five players
being mooted for export this morning.
We'll start with the most unlikely to go through, with the whisperings that Inter Milan are
sniffing around Dirk Kuyt again, though it's thought that Dutchman and his glorious mane of wet
spaghetti hair will snub any offer from Italy as he'd much prefer to stay at Anfield until they
chuck him out a wise choice.

If you're a fan of men in tights sitting on each other's faces, then you may be familiar with
this pale-looking chap, if not then let us introduce him. His name is Sheamus, he's a WWE wrestler
and, unlike certain superstar basketball sell-outs we could mention, he's a genuine Liverpool
fan.
Fulham have been offered a boomerang deal to take back Paul Konchesky, with Liverpool keen to use
him in a transfer deal to buy Clint Dempsey.
Konchesky, a Roy Hodgson signing, has been a flop in front of the Kop in his four months at the
club - failing to prove his credentials at left-back.
Frozen out of first-team plans since Kenny Dalglish began his reign, Konchesky is limited in his
movements due to Premier League rules stipulating a player may not play for more than two
top-flight clubs in any one season.
Since departing Anfield at the end of the January transfer window, Fernando Torres has been talking
more about Liverpool Football Club than some of the current players seem to. Torres has
spoken of turmoil at the club, his desire to win trophies and play in the Champions League.
Fair enough, this is a player that scored the winning goal for Spain at Euro 2008 and was part of
the World Cup winning squad in South Africa.
Liverpool's owners have rubbished suggestions that they will buy 'token' players in the summer in a
bid to crack the Asian market.
Fenway Sports Group president Sam Kennedy told BBC News that the Reds will not be signing any
players just to sell T-shirts, and that any new arrivals will be based on footballing talent rather
than marketability.
Liverpool winger Joe Cole will not be heading to Tottenham Hotspur, after sources close to the club
ruled out a move.
The England International has been linked with a move back to London, after an unsuccessful first
season in Merseyside, which has been blighted with injury and poor form.
However, sources have told Sportsvibe that Cole will not be heading to White Hart Lane, as the
player does not feature in boss Harry Redknapp's plans for next season.
Have Liverpool lost the plot? - originally posted on Soccerlens.com
There was widespread optimism around Anfield at the end of the season. "King" Kenny Dalglish had
returned as manager, masterminding a resurgence that saw Liverpool narrowly miss out on European
football. New owners FSG seem to be owners with Liverpool's interests at heart after the shambles
of an affair that was the ownership of Tom Hicks and George Gillett.
Some of us might be able to spend the day watching Raheem Sterling's wonder strike over and over
again, but that doesn't mean there aren't other things out there to worry about from a Liverpool
point of view. Besides, a quick break to catch up on the Monday news and notes could do you
good...

Disabled football fans who have benefitted from Liverpool's Respect 4 All coaching gathered at

The club's Respect 4 All Disability Centre started in September 2008 and has coaching sessions four
nights a week.
It helps people who are visually impaired, physically disabled, wheelchair users or have severe
learning difficulties - allowing them to play sports often for the first time.

Liverpool Agony The Ineffective £71 Million Talent - originally posted on Soccerlens.com
A strong finish last season under the legend Kenny Dalglish and the injection of money by the
owners to add talent in Liverpool's squad reignited hope amongst the supporters that the club is

Carling Cup returns to the menu as the victors of tonight's game will seal their path into the
semi final of this competition. It won't be so easy to win this year's competitions, well, compared
to our run last season. Apart from Manchester City, there's still Manchester United, Chelsea and
Liverpool still in this competition.

Liverpool continue their preseason preparations with a trip to the KC Stadium, where they'll
work to get up to speed and look to gain momentum ahead of the season opener in three weeks.
With their main goal threat away in Argentina, around £44 million of new signings starting on the
substitute's bench and their captain still recovering from injury, Liverpool's pre-season defeat at
Hull will not set alarm bells ringing at Anfield.
But it cannot be dismissed and Kenny Dalglish, under pressure to improve the club's fortunes after
spending £100 million since returning as manager in January, did not mince his words after his
team's 3-0 setback against the Championship club.
Video: Comolli & Aquilani Discuss Transfer
In this ‘extraordinary' video shot by a Liverpool fan at the Hilton hotel in Oslo, Damien
Comolli and Alberto Aquilani are apparently seen discussing the player's proposed exit from the
club. At times both parties even appear frustrated – particularly the player who is known to be
desperate for a move back to his native Italy.
The only way is up for star striker Luis Suarez, according to Liverpool captain Steve Gerrard.
The Uruguayan proved a smash hit at Anfield in the second half of last season following his January
arrival from Ajax.
Suarez also lit up the Copa America as his country won the competition this summer, and Gerrard
thinks his club-mate can prove to be an even better player than Carlos Tevez.
Liverpool striker Dirk Kuyt says he is delighted by the club's transfer activity this summer and is
optimistic about their prospects of success this season.
Kuyt has been one of the most consistent performers at Anfield since arriving from Feyenoord in
2006 despite often being deployed out of position on the right flank, even finishing as the club's
top scorer last term with 15 goals.
Attempting to achieve better results in the new season, Liverpool doesn't give a convincing
start for their fans as the Reds failed to pick up three points in their opening league game
against Sunderland at Anfield.
Taking the lead in the first half through Luis Suarez's header, Kenny Dalglish's side have to
settle for a point after the Black Cat's equalized in the second half from Sebastian Larsson's
wonderful finish.

Liverpool have scored only 20 goals in 17 league games so far this season, and Anfield legend Steve

Luis Suarez has been at Anfield for almost a year now, and it's an understatement to say that the
Uruguayan is idolised by Liverpool fans. A year is (arguably) enough time to assess a player's true

comparison of this new series, I'll compare Suarez's first-year impact at Liverpool with former

Liverpool's results this season are now so bad that they're being compared to the days before
Bill Shankly arrived and revolutionised the club.
Inter Milan and Bayern Munich have emerged as the front runners to end Fernando Torres' Anfield
hell, according to reports in Germany.
Despite being sacked as manager of European champions Inter last month, Benitez has left one legacy
– an interest in Torres that could revive their ailing fortunes in Serie A.

Why this is my favourite goal shouldn't really need explaining.
Well, after that fantastic display at Molineaux, where Kenny Dalglish got his first win of his new
tenure, he now has a nice problem on his hands, who to leave out v Fulham and where does Steven
Gerrard play?It was a great team performance, full of attacking and good 'passing and
movement'.Everyone played well but Raul Miereles really caught the eye where he ran the midfield
for Liverpool for Liverpool with his neat passing and good link-up play and he crowned his man of
the display with a great volleyed goal.
Liverpool is reportedly considering a bid for teenage Greek defender Kyriakos Papadopoulos.
The Schalke centre back has been earning rave reviews in Germany after signing from Olympiakos in
the summer, and Liverpool have reportedly sent scouts to watch the player's progress.
Reports in Germany claim Arsenal, Spurs and Chelsea have also sent representatives to take a closer
look at the player, who is set to be sold by the Bundesliga outfit amidst financial troubles at the
club.
Morning all. Throughout January Soccerlens is going to be bringing you a daily round-up
of the morning's various goings-on. Be it juicy morsels of spurious transfer gossip or real, actual
bona fide news, rest assured, we'll have it covered.
Here's this morning's batch.
Liverpool reject Torres bid.
Fernando Torres' love affair with Liverpool is over.
Less than four years after snubbing Chelsea for a move to Anfield to play for, in his own words,
"a club of champions, one of the biggest there is" the Spain striker is heading to West London for
a reported fee of £50m.
A transfer request from Torres is believed to have persuaded the Liverpool board to part with
their talismanic forward, leaving the Reds supporters furious with a player who once claimed he
would never play for another Premier League side.
Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel says Fernando Torres' exit came as 'no surprise', but feels he
could end up regretting his move to Chelsea.
The Spanish striking ace sent shockwaves through Anfield on transfer deadline day when he completed
a £50million move to Premier League rivals the Blues.
