The feeling of frustration and disappointment after Steven Gerrard's second goal of the game
went in last weekend was almost unbearable. We'd played them off the park for the whole game but
thanks to two set pieces, were now level.
Obviously, things turned out alright for us, but it was only upon returning home and watching
MOTD2 that I saw how Gerrard had chosen to celebrate his equalising goal.
Securing three points is always a joyous occasion for a Manchester United fan, achieving it the way
it was on Sunday gives an incredible buzz, but doing it against your biggest rivals is
simply...

Today is the big day for the Jamie Carragher tributes, as the testimonial between the Liverpool
XI and Everton XI kicks off from Anfield at 14:00GMT and 9:00EST.
All proceeds from the match will benefit charities via the 23 Foundation, and a healthy crowd is
expected to attend. There's also plenty of big names attached you've no doubt heard Michael Owen is
set to return, but we'll also see Luis Garcia, Jerzy Dudek, Danny Murphy, and Jamie Redknapp in
action.

Former Liverpool winger Steve McManaman has admitted that he fears star duo
Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres will jump ship in the January
transfer window, if the club remains under it's current rootin' tootin' ownership and the players
themselves don't begin to show signs of improvement.
Fernando Torres is preparing to drop a bombshell on new Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson in January by
handing in a written transfer request, it has been suggested.
Torres is reportedly disgruntled at the Reds' manager's failure to bring in any more big-name
signings since Joe Cole's arrival on a free transfer.
There was something in the air that night, the stars so bright Sunday was a day when Fernando
Torres could have answered a lot. He was returning to Old Trafford, the scene of his last goal away
from Anfield, and the stage on which he could make the most crucial of differences. His
performance, however, [.
Ryan Babel has admitted that he 'failed personally' during Liverpool's humiliating Carling Cup exit
to Northampton Town after being dropped from Holland's Euro 2012 squad.
The trying attacker suffered a double heartache on Wednesday as Liverpool crashed out to the League
Two outfit on penalties just hours after he found out that Bert van Marwijk omitted him from the
Oranje's upcoming qualifiers against Moldova and Sweden.
For the second successive season Liverpool have been left over-reliant on the form and fitness of
Fernando Torres having failed to improve cover for a striker who has suffered two injury-plagued
campaigns and, as Roy Hodgson conceded on Sunday, is not fully recovered from the knee problem that
impacted on his World Cup.
There really is little else around so I thought I'd reflect on the start to the season, and one
player in particular who looks re-born -Tomas Rosicky
This summer he was close to leaving, not of his own will I hastily add, but there has always
been big interest from Germany in him but Werder Bremen and Everton both inquired over his
availability as Arsenal were pursuing defenders from both the clubs, Phil Jagielka and Per
Mertesacker were the targets on the Arsenal side.
While his Liverpool teammate and close friend Steven Gerrard will be captaining England tonight,
Jamie Carragher will be preparing himself for a well earned testimonial against an Everton XI.
Carragher's time at Anfield has been varied. He has achieved some incredible success most
notably on that night historic night in Istanbul.
Five games from Wembley. When you say that sentence again and again, the more straightforward the
task seems.
While its fiercest critics continue to treat the competition with scorn and deride its place in the
English football calendar, the Carling Cup provides the most simple, straightforward task for a
club to enjoy a red-letter day.

I know this is a bit redundant but can I say it one more time? WHAT A MESS!!!!! All I see in the
future is one massive court battle when all of the proverbial shit hits the fan.
Liverpool's board of directors will block any plans by owners George Gillett and Tom Hicks to
use club assets to refinance their loans.
Few coaches seem to have divided opinion quite like the Spaniard. Good guy, bad guy; guilty as sin,
innocent victim. He is solely responsible for the miserable fate that befell Liverpool; no, he is
responsible for the club's greatest moments and was slain by the political and economic civil war
at Anfield.
Liverpool starlet Jonjo Shelvey has revealed it was a "great honour" to play at Anfield for the
first time in Jamie Carragher's testimonial.
Shelvey, 18, featured as the club celebrated the career of its veteran defender last weekend. While
Carragher can boast a 20-year affiliation with the Reds, the ex-Charlton Athletic man is only just
starting to make his mark since arriving this summer.
Liverpool is reportedly preparing a bid for Spanish wonderkid Inigo Ruiz de Galarreta.
The Athletic Bilbao teenager has been linked with the cream of Europe after making his first senior
appearance in pre-season, and the Basque club are readying themselves for an offer from Liverpool
boss Roy Hodgson.
Getting knocked out of the Cup by Liverpool is never a pleasant experience, but the last time it
happened the event was totally overshadowed by a sickening injury to fans' favourite, Alan
Smith.
When blocking a freekick taken by John Arne Riise, he dislocated his ankle and broke his
leg.
By coincidence, Smith was in the crowd on Tuesday night and witnessed first hand the injury
Antonio Valencia suffered, which is obviously something he can relate to.
Manchester United will be looking to get back to winning ways when they host Liverpool at Old
Trafford on Sunday. Tuesday's dull draw against Rangers in the Champions League was largely blamed
as a mistake in squad selection from Sir Alex Ferguson and the Scot is sure to get it right this
time in front of an expected 76,000 capacity crowd.
Tomas Hicks senior is hell-bent on a full take-over of Liverpool Football Club, Anfield, Melwood
and all of its assets in order to re-finance his loan with RBS worth £280 million.
The despicable Texan has reportedly agreed a deal with the Blackstone/GSO group to buy-out his
loans with RBS buy Oct 1st.
It has been all downhill since that 'great' Liverpool second-place Premier League finish for
Rafa Benitez, hasn't it?
And now after a sour end to Benitez's six-year reign at Anfield, he was hired as a replacement
for Jose Mourinho at Inter.
Needless to say, the appointment puts Benitez in the hottest seat possible.
It is believed that Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson will be given a transfer budget of £60m when the
window opens once again in January, undoubtedly leading to wholesale changes after The Reds'
disappointing start to the new season.
So who are these fine young individuals who could kick-start Liverpool's season, and more
importantly, what will they bring to an ailing and disillusioned squad?

Sunderland 1 Arsenal 1
In the same way that there were positives and negatives to be taken from Arsenal's performance,
there are times when a draw feels like a point gained and there are times when it feels like two
points dropped.
What's been odd about the draws against Liverpool and again against Sunderland, was that they were
somewhere in the middle.
It's already not been the best of weeks for Liverpool. A defeat at Manchester United is never easy
to take, but now former manager Rafa Benitez has revealed some worrying information about the clubs
hierarchy.
Pressure on the decision makers at Anfield is already at fever pitch, and Benitez's accusations
will only add further strain to the relationship between the Liverpool board and the clubs
fans.
TOP 10 FOOTBALL FANS IN EUROPE (UEFA SURVEY)
It has been said that the 12th man is like an endangered species in modern football. This
weekend I waxed un-poetically about the legacy of Liverpool fans and the famous atmosphere they
create at Anfield and when they travel on the road.
The Reds face league two side Northampton Town tonight at Anfield and Roy should surely be looking
to do well in this competition with the realisation that the Premier League for Liverpool this
season is more than out of reach. It would be nice however to see a mixture of youngsters play
tomorrow but also a [.
Bundesliga Champions Bayern Munich are looking at the prospect of buying Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe
Reina as their answer to the retired Oliver Kahn. The Spanish keeper has impressed during numerous
weeks at Anfield despite Liverpool sitting uncomfortably in 16th place in the Premiership.
The player is highly rated and reports from Germany and Holland suggest the South German team may
look to Reina as the ideal summer signing with Munich already leaking goals at the back this
season.
Manchester United are monitoring the progress of Italian international Claudio Marchisio, with a
view to potentially making a move for the 24-year-old Juventus midfielder next summer.

Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson is considering a January move for Newcastle United winger Wayne
Routledge if he gets enough funds from the Anfield board.
Emiliano Insua has left Liverpool for Turkish giants Galatasaray on a season-long loan with an
option to make the deal permanent.
The 21-year-old full-back has been at Liverpool for the past four years, having joined as a
youngster from Boca Juniors.
However, he struggled to break into the side and recent signing of Paul Konchesky by the Anfield
club put another hurdle in his path.
Liverpool attacker Ryan Babel has dismissed rumours of a move to Tottenham or West Ham, saying he
is 'going nowhere'.
The 23-year-old has been the subject of intense speculation on the final day of the transfer
window, but insists he will be staying at Anfield for the foreseeable future.
Babel was reported to be flying south in a helicopter on Tuesday, headed for the capital with both
Spurs and the Hammers possible destinations.
Javier Mascherano has warned Roy Hodgson that he will reveal the truth behind the "lies" that
surrounded his departure from Anfield – and admitted his £17m move to Barcelona was a year
overdue. He also insisted there was never an offer on the table for him to join Rafa Benítez at
Internazionale.
Mascherano was reported to have refused to play against Manchester City as he sought to force
through a move to Spain, with Hodgson accusing him of being "selfish".
On this day, September 2nd, William "Bill" Shankly was born 98 years ago. He passed
away on September 29th, 1981, but not before giving a life of service to the club he loved:
Liverpool FC. After a playing career at Preston North End and earning 5 caps with Scotland, Shankly
managed at Anfield from 1959 to 1974.

Jamie Carragher has asked Liverpool fans to be understanding of Michael Owen's decision to join
Manchester United, ahead of his testimonial at Anfield, which Owen will feature in.
Owen returned with Newcastle a few years ago and was booed by the home crowd so it should come
as no surprise that he got a rotten time when returning with United last season.

Liverpool's medical team have confirmed that, although he made his return to action on the
opening day of the Premier League, striker Fernando Torres will not reach peak
fitness for at least another month despite being ahead of schedule.

'We all dream of a team of Carraghers,' the Kop roars, though perhaps not quite as much as they
did a few seasons ago, when Jamie Carragher was the most consistent English
centre-back around. Hmm, you'd have to say a team of Carraghers might be lacking a little pace and
creativity.
The Daily Mail have reported that Gerard Houllier is to be the new man in charge at Villa Park.
The 62 year old, if the papers are anything to go by, is now the hot favourite with the board and
will become Villa's first foreign manager for 20 years, Jozef Venglos was the man in charge,
spending just one season at the club.
Gerrard Backs Capello Ahead Of Euro 2012 Qualifiers
English captain Steven Gerrard has defended Fabio Capello ahead of England's first Euro
qualifiers versus Bulgaria and Switzerland, calling the cries for his ousting "crazy."
"It's important Fabio is still given a chance.
New beginnings at Anfield under Hodgson?
For man who prides himself on doing his job with the minimum of fuss, the first two months of
Roy Hodgson's reign as Liverpool manager have been a flurry of activity. Whilst the blame for the
boardroom wrangling cannot be laid at the door of the affable Hodgson, he seems to be unusually
flustered in his dealings.
