In the wake of the recent new sponsorship deal with London-based bank Standard Chartered, new
Liverpool-Kop writer Joe Rimmer believes it's about time somebody praised the job that 'managing
director' Christian Purslow has done since he arrived at Liverpool in June 2009.

Criticise the Americans all you want, but the one thing they seem to have done well since they
arrived from across the pond is to increase the commercial value of the club.
Saturday's performance at Upton Park, where Fernando scored two goals giving Liverpool another 3
points, was just another demonstration of how well the Spanish guy's adapted himself to the Premier
League. His first goal against West Ham United was wonderful – it reminded me of his first goal
in England, in Anfield against Chelsea, more than [.

It's been a long hard summer for Rafa.
In
Glen Johnson
Already proven himself to be a very effective attacking force and offers more than the steady
but unspectacular Alvaro Arbeloa. Seemed pricey when initially purchased but seems like a very good
transfer even after such a short spell, hopefully will get better and better.
Rafa should trust more to youth.
Liverpool youngster Daniel Ayala is hungry for more opportunities after a brief taste of
Premier League football.
The Spanish defender played in Liverpool's first two games of the season after Martin Skrtel and
Daniel Agger were struck down by injuries.
"You Don't Know What You're Doing"
Liverpool co-owner Tom Hicks is adamant that he remains committed to building a new
stadium for the club.
The Reds were planning to open a replacement for Anfield in neighbouring Stanley Park, with the
new ground designed to have a significantly increased capacity.
Given the choice between watching a match in high-definition television or watching a game in
standard definition, which one would you choose? What if the choice was, like last weekend,
Liverpool against Burnley in HD on ESPN2 or Manchester City versus Arsenal in standard definition
on Setanta Sports?
A look ahead at this weekends games in the Premier League. Last weekend I went 7 out of 10, when
brings me up to 76% for the season.
Portsmouth v Everton
It looks like David Moyes side has turned the corner after a tough start to the season. In their
last three games, all wins, Everton have scored 11 goals with none conceded.
Xabi Alonso has revealed that he first came to the conclusion he was ready to leave Liverpool when
the club tried to sell him last summer.
The Spaniard spent five successful seasons at Anfield before leaving for Real Madrid in a £30m
move this summer. However the Liverpool manager Rafael Benítez tried to offload the 27-year-old 12
months ago to raise money for prospective signings, in particular Gareth Barry.
Alvaro Arbeloa has questioned his former club Liverpool's title credentials after selling Xabi
Alonso to Real Madrid this summer.
Arbeloa made the switch from Anfield to the Bernabeu in July, with Alonso following the same path
just a week later for a fee believed to be in the region of £28million.
Anyone tuning in to ITV1 late on Saturday afternoon will have been greeted by the sight of grown
men sporting silly hats in a sea of similarly dressed people and empty red seats. This, apparently,
was Wembley's pre-match atmosphere in all its glory ahead of England's friendly with Slovenia. The
St George Cross hung from every ledge in the famous (new) stadium as the national side took to the
field and will no doubt be out in force again on Wednesday night when Croatia visit the capital.
Jamie Carragher has said scouting for young talent abroad is perfectly acceptable - as long as it
is done within the rules.
The Liverpool defender, who came through the youth ranks on Merseyside alongside captain Steven
Gerrard, believes provided young English players are given the chance to prove themselves, then
bringing in foreign youngsters should be allowed.
At kick-off on Saturday afternoon, Liverpool and Burnley lined up as equals according to the
Barclays Premier League table. Within a couple of hours, any ideas that such an unlikely equality
could last had been ruthlessly dismissed.
Liverpool scored four times but, such was their dominance as the game wore on, could have
underlined their superiority with several more goals.
Fernando Torres has scored three goals in four games this season. Great return so far, so what more
do we want from the kid? Frankly, a lot more. Liverpool's outstanding striker is certainly capable
of scoring more goals, but is he being handicapped by Liverpool's preferred formation?
During the 2007/08 season, Torres scored thirty three goals in 46 appearances, which is quite the
prodigious strike rate; even the great Ian Rush only managed 30 in 49 appearances in his first full
season at Anfield.
Our good friends at The Kop End Blog are based in London but believe me they are as loyal and
loving fans of Liverpool Football Club than anyone who happens to live walking distance from
Anfield. Well they traveled to see the Burnley game and below is the video that illustrated their
day out.

Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez has backed Fernando Torres to swiftly discover his deadly touch in
front of goal.
The Spanish striker has three goals so far this season, but freely admits that he has not yet
reached the incredible standards he has set in two breathtaking seasons in the Premier League.
There is no denying that Liverpool F.C. is the form team in the
Barclays Premier League at the moment. Rafa's Reds have defied
all odds to overcome a frustrating start to the campaign and surprisingly, the Steven
Gerrard - Fernando Torres pairing isn't exclusively responsible for leading the
revival.
There have been some truly magical European nights at Anfield since I became a supporter over 10
years ago. Barcelona in 2001. Chelsea and Juventus in 2005. Chelsea in 2007. Arsenal and Inter
Milan in 2008. Real Madrid in 2009. Debrecen in 2009 is surely not in this list. Though we won 1-0,
thanks to Dirk Kuyt's [.
Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez is delighted with the progress that his injured players have made
in order to regain full fitness.
The Reds boss began by explaining that Fabio Aurelio will be back by the time the club host Burnley
at Anfield on September 12.
"Fabio is back training and playing football," Benitez is quoted by The Liverpool Daily Post as
saying.
It's belt-tightening time for financially troubled Liverpool and it appears they're starting
with a group that should have gotten squeezed out already. Former owner David Moores, who resigned
from the club's board back in June, and other ex-directors have had their sizable perks package
taken away, which included "keeping all their directors' box privileges and traveling all expenses
paid with the team in Europe.
Liverpool starlet Daniel Ayala has spoken of his delight at breaking into the Reds' first-team
squad and is eager to get more playing time as soon as possible.
The 18-year-old Spaniard took full advantage of injuries to Martin Skrtel and Daniel Agger and came
on as a substitute in the opening game of the season against Tottenham Hotspur before starting at
Anfield as Rafael Benitez's men comfortably beat Stoke City 4-0.
Liverpool's new stadium will not be built until the global recession is over and credit becomes
available to finance the $800 million project.
The 60,000-seat replacement for Liverpool's historic but crumbling Anfield was due to have opened
next year, but the economic downturn forced co-owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett Jr.
Dirk Kuyt believes Ryan Babel is happy at Liverpool and is backing him to become a first-team
regular.
The Dutch winger was quoted on Wednesday as being open to the prospect of securing a loan switch to
former club Ajax during the January transfer window.
The 22-year-old is said to have grown disillusioned at a lack of opportunities at Anfield, with his
World Cup aspirations weighing heavy on his mind.
Ryan Babel feels let down by his manager at Anfield over a series of "broken promises."
So let me just remind you of the words Babel himself uttered on the day he was unveiled at
Liverpool two summers ago.
"It's a great feeling to be compared to Thierry Henry and a goal for me to work hard every day to
get to that level or to be even better.
Liverpool winger Albert Riera has dismissed rumours that his future at Anfield is in doubt by
playing down a bust-up with boss Rafa Benitez.
Summer speculation had linked the Spain international with a move to Barcelona, and he has since
struggled to earn a regular place in the Reds' first team.
Peter Gulacsi is hoping his new Liverpool contract will prove to be a stepping stone towards the
Reds' first-team.
The 19-year-old goalkeeper put pen to paper on a new deal last month that will keep him at Anfield
until 2013.
Gulacsi is delighted to have committed his future to the club and, having been named as a
substitute for last weekend's Barclays Premier League clash with Bolton, admits his long-term
ambition is to establish himself in Liverpool's first-team setup.
Fabio Capello has backed Glen Johnson's defensive capabilities amid criticism of the Liverpool
man's preference to bomb forward rather than defend.
The buccaneering right-back has enjoyed a brilliant start to his new career at Anfield and has been
arguably the club's standout performer to date since his big-money move from Portsmouth.
Winger has until January to prove himself worthy of a first team spot otherwise he may have to
leave to cement his World Cup hopes.
Liverpool forward Ryan Babel has to force himself into a regular first team spot at
Anfield, according to Netherlands coach Bert van Marwijk, or his chances of representing his
country at next summer's World Cup finals in South Africa will disappear.
Fernando Torres admits he fears the spending power of Liverpool's Premier League rivals could
scupper the Anfield club's title hopes.
Manchester City spent a massive £120million during the summer and, although Chelsea and champions
Manchester United were more circumspect, Torres fears Liverpool could be left behind.
Liverpool forward Ryan Babel has to force himself into a regular first team spot at Anfield,
according to Netherlands coach Bert van Marwijk, or his chances of representing his country at next
summer's World Cup finals in South Africa will disappear.
The powerful winger has only impressed fitfully during his time on Merseyside so far, though many
feel that Reds manager Rafa Benitez has not necessarily given the Dutchman as much opportunity as
he perhaps should have, and Van Marwijk has affirmed that he needs his international players to be
performing as regularly as possible for their clubs in order to put themselves properly in the
frame for Holland.
Liverpool assistant boss Sammy Lee has hailed the return to fitness of left-back Fabio Aurelio.
The Brazilian has been sidelined since he injured his knee in a freak accident while playing with
his son in the close season.
He missed all the Reds' friendly matches and has sat out their first four Premier League clashes.
It's been a strange old start to the season for Liverpool. They headed in with sky-high
expectations after taking home the silver medal in last season's Premier League race, but the mob
from Merseyside have lost two and won two in their first four games of 2009-10.
And it could have been worse - for when the half-time whistle blew in their last outing against
Bolton Wanderers, it looked like the Reds would go into the international break with three defeats
under their belts.
Rafa Benitez is confident that Argentina midfielder Javier Mascherano will be fit for the start of
Liverpool's Champions League campaign.
Mascherano was missing as his side demolished Burnley 4-0 at Anfield, with his replacement Yossi
Benayoun scoring the third hat-trick of his Liverpool career.
As the EPL and the rest of Europe completes the first month of the domestic season, it is
interesting to look at the travels of perhaps the EPL's greatest finisher: one Robbie Fowler.
Having been discarded by Blackburn amidst the outing of old friend Paul Ince, many wondered what
Fowler's next move would be.
Rafa Benitez asked his players to do their talking on the pitch and Yossi Benayoun responded
brilliantly at Anfield on Saturday.
The Israeli was excellent against Burnley and fully deserved his hat-trick.
Ryan Babel could learn a lot from Benayoun.
Rather than moan about not being in the side every week, Benayoun knuckled down and was determined
to take his chance.
It only seems like yesterday that Liverpool were playing Chelsea in the knockout stage of
Champions League. Now, only five months removed from the dramatic defeat, Rafa is ready to lead the
squad back into the Champions League for another run at a sixth piece of silverware from Europe's
most coveted event.

Champions League. Now, only five months removed from the dramatic defeat, Rafa is ready to lead the
squad back into the Champions League for another run at a sixth piece of silverware from Europe's
most coveted event.
His head may have been in Madrid but his heart was already in Liverpool.
Even though Fernando Torres didn't actually realise it, his fate was already sealed.
A flick of the arm, a fleeting connection with a defender jostling for the ball and the ripped
skipper's armband revealed his destiny.
Dirk Kuyt scores the only goal of the game at Anfield.
