So let's get our minds working over what chants our fans can sing at Anfield in a fortnight's time!

Liverpool have confirmed today that they rejected a £50 million bid for their Spanish striker
Fernando Torres on transfer deadline day. The former Atletico Madrid man was subject of a massive
bid from the world's newest richest club, Manchester City.
Torres, 24, has been linked with Chelsea also in recent months with rumours claiming that Roman
Abramovich was also willing to bid £50 million for the Euro 2008 winner.
New Hertha Berlin signing Andriy Voronin is excited by the prospect of playing in the Bundesliga
after joining on loan from Liverpool.
The Ukraine striker was a deadline-day arrival from Anfield and is looking forward a second stint
in Germany having plied his trade there for 12 years before moving to Merseyside in the summer of
2007.
There's the Anfield that we all know on TV. The sight of Liverpool supporters waving their scarves
as millionaires such as Fernando Torres and Steven Gerrard run around the pitch. But directly
behind Anfield is something that Liverpool owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett don't want you to
see. The most deprived neighborhood in Britain.
Following Albert Riera's timely arrival at Liverpool on the last day of the transfer window, Rafa
Benitez finally has two good wide players to deploy in his line-up who he can trust to produce
excellent performances consistently.
Ryan Babel can be played on either flank, but now that the left-footed Riera has turned up he
should be placed on the right-hand side of Liverpool's previously rigid midfield.
This is an open letter from John Arne Riise that was published on the official Liverpool
website.
Dear fans of Liverpool FC,
After seven seasons at Anfield, it's time for me to "walk on". In many ways it feels
inspiring and exciting to be familiar with the pressure of a new employer, meet new fans, meet a
new culture and play a new kind of football.
Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez is reportedly considering a January swoop for Tottenham Hotspur
winger Aaron Lennon, with the England International also said to be attracting attention from Aston
Villa and Newcastle United.
21-year-old Lennon has been at White Hart Lane since joining from Leeds United in 2005, but despite
making a promising start to his career at the North London side, which forced him into the England
squad, Lennon has not pushed on to become the star many thought he would at Spurs.
The Reds have got a poor recent record against their Mancunian rivals, and supporters can't exactly
be confident of reversing their fortunes on Saturday when the two teams meet at Anfield. While
Liverpool have had a solid start to their league campaign, they've not yet played particularly
well, and now .
Liverpool have signed Brazilian striker Vitor Flora on a free transfer.
The 18-year-old spent last season playing in his homeland with Botafogo and has signed a contract
until 2010.
He holds an Italian passport so he does not require a work permit, however, he will need to gain
international clearance before playing for the Reds.
ALBERT RIERA is hoping to repeat his first experience of English football by helping Rafael Benitez
finally break his Manchester United hoodoo.
The Spain international left-winger was unveiled at Melwood yesterday after arriving from Espanyol
on Monday's transfer deadline day for an initial £5.
Manchester United's trip to Anfield is the top fixure (Torres & Gerrard are fit) while the clash
between Manchester City and Chelsea is also of great interest. Thank God the international break is
over...

Nick Webster's Predictions
Lawro's Predictions
Liverpool ended their miserable run against Manchester United after an odd own-goal from Wes Brown
and a late score from sub Ryan Babel gave them a 2-1 victory at Anfield. Elsewhere, Robinho scored
on his Citey debut but Chelsea rallied to win 3-1 despite a harsh red card on John Terry. Arsenal
won 4-0 over Blackburn as Adebayor netted a hat trick, Hull heaped more misery on Newcastle, Tim
Cahill made a timely return to give Everton the win over Stoke and Fulham beat Bolton at Craven
Cottage.
Arsenal and Liverpool have missed out on Manchester City midfielder Michael Johnson after the
player signed a new long-term deal at Eastlands. The England under-21 international had been
heavily linked with a move to either Anfield or the Emirates but the chances of a move now are
dead.
Johnson, 21, has made a major impact at the City of Manchester stadium since breaking into the
first team almost eighteen months ago.
SV Hamburg coach Martin Jol is reportedly considering another move for Liverpool striker Dirk Kuyt
in the January transfer window after making an approach this summer for the Dutch International,
which came to nothing due to the asking price from the Reds, according to reports.
28-year-old Kuyt has two years left on his current contract at Anfield after making the switch to
the Premier League from Ererdivisie team Feyenoord in 2006 on a four-year deal to the Merseyside
club.
WHAT constitutes a master tactician? The ability to make changes to the pattern of a match with
influential substitutions is clearly one criterion.
And in Rafael Benitez, Liverpool possess the best Anfield has ever seen.
Ryan Babel's goalscoring impact against Manchester United last Saturday was the 50th occasion
Benitez has brought on a player who has scored.
Liverpool striker Andriy Voronin has agreed a one-year loan deal with German side Hertha Berlin,
the Anfield club have announced.
The Ukraine international signed for Liverpool on a Bosman free transfer last summer and scored six
goals in 27 appearances.
However, the impact of Fernando Torres restricted his first-team opportunities and Robbie Keane's
arrival this summer forced him further down the pecking order, prompting the forward to move back
to the Bundesliga, where he previously played for Bayer Leverkusen, Cologne, Mainz and Borussia
Monchengladbach.

Liverpool take on the Champions this coming weekend, it's a fixture that all football fans look
forward to, even though it doesn't always live up to its star billing.
United have dominated recent encounters, so much so that Rafa Benitez has yet to notch a league
victory over Ferguson since he arrived at Anfield in 2004.
After revealing last week that he would like to manage his beloved Liverpool one day, Jamie
Carragher's bid for the Reds' bench has received backing from current incumbent Rafael Benitez.
Carragher declared last week in a newspaper interview that it is his ambition to be employed as
Liverpool manager once his playing days are over.
Xabi Alonso came close to leaving Liverpool in the summer, with Arsenal a potential destination;
and now it looks as though the rumours are starting again after his agent talked up a move away
from Anfield in the january transfer window.

Manchester United travel to Liverpool on Saturday, 13 September, knowing they have a better record
at Anfield than any other Premier League team in recent seasons: Manchester United are
unbeaten in their last six Premier League visits to Anfield, winning five times. Since the start of
the 2002/2003 season they have the best record at Liverpool of [.
Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has words of praise for midfielder Xabi Alonso for his inspired
performance in the 2-1 victory over defending champions Manchester United at Anfield on
Saturday.
Alonso's future was surrounded by speculation all summer where the Spain international was linked
with a move out of Anfield even as the 26-year-old central midfielder was away doing national duty
at the successful Euro 2008 finals.
This source, and a questionable one at that, has announced today that a former Anfield man could be
heading back to the club. But quite frankly I will eat my spleen if this ever happens! Don't forget

LIVERPOOL are ready to reassure Daniel Agger his future remains at Anfield by offering the defender
a new deal.
Reports in Agger's homeland have claimed the Denmark international is unhappy at the club and
hinted he could buy out his contract next year.
Having missed almost the whole of last season with a metatarsal problem, the 23-year-old has been
restricted to just one appearance this campaign by the form of Jamie Carragher and Martin Skrtel
and didn't even make the bench for Saturday's 2-1 win over Manchester United.
We return to Old Trafford after the misadventure in Anfield to meet the Yellow Submarines (as they
are called) with several points to prove. It's a strange thing having to prove points that is when
we are the defending English and European champions. But let that not mask the fact that whilst we

Liverpool striker Dirk Kuyt has today admitted he would love to move to German giants Hamburg and
link up with manager Martin Jol. The Dutch international has been linked with a possible move to
the Bundesliga side all summer and now it is claimed Kuyt may be interested in a possible move come
January.
The celebration that died in vain. What a queer match. According to all of the crystal balls in
the world, the Reds were supposed to hand Stoke City their ass on Saturday, but instead had to
settle for a measly point.
Some would say that one of the problems was that Torres was not match fit yet.
According to this source Rafa will go head to head with neighbours Everton for the signing of a
former Anfield legend! Don't forget to check out Online Football Manager! Newcastle striker Michael
Owen is a target for Merseyside rivals Liverpool and Everton. The 28-year-old's contract expires in
the summer and is free .
Liverpool have been linked with a move to sign highly-rated England winger Aaron Lennon from
struggling Tottenham Hotspur in January. Anfield manager Rafael Benitez seems to be using strikers
as wingers and it has been said that the former Valencia coach wants to alter that. Liverpool are
set to dig .
Liverpool's chief executive Rick Parry insists that the fighting within Anfield is now over. Rows
between Parry and Rafa Benitez over who would and wouldn't be signing for the Reds, along with the
fallout between owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett, threatened to see chaos decent. However Parry
says that stability has been restored and everyone is now pulling in the right direction, as he
explained to Sky Sports:
'Everyone is working together.
Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez thinks that Espanyol midfielder Albert Riera will be at Anfield by the
end of the day. The Espanyol midfielder is expected to make the move for a fee of around
£8million. The deal for Riera is...
Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez is waiting to know the exact nature of Fernando Torres' hamstring
injury, while acknowledging that to lose the star striker close on the heels of captain Steven
Gerrard's groin surgery, is a problem.
The Spain international damaged his hamstring in the first half during Sunday's stalemate at Aston
Villa, and on first reports it appears that the 24-year-old could be out for a minimum of two weeks
although a scan will determine the extent of the problem.
Liverpool have this evening completed the signings of Brazilian striker Vitor Flora and Spanish
winger Albert Riera. Flora arrives at Anfield on a free transfer from Botafogo and Riera has
completed his £8 million move from La Liga side Espanyol after weeks of speculation over his
future.
Flora, 18, has an Italian passport and consequently didn't need a work permit to move to Liverpool.
Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher believes Manchester City's dramatic transfer deadline day
transformation into one of the Premier League's biggest spenders could post a threat to the top
four.
The Eastlands takeover by the Abu Dhabi United Group was followed immediately by the
£33million signing of Brazilian striker Robinho from Real Madrid.
Rafael Benitez today praised Albert Riera's qualities to reassure fans who have judged him
before he has set foot on the pitch at Anfield.

Rafael Benitez has attempted to put into perspective the intensifying competition at the top of the
Premier League - and the pressures on him and his team to deliver the title.
Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez is aware that expectations are building again for the Reds to
mount a sustained challenge to win the title that has eluded them since 1990.
Mark Hughes may like to think that his Manchester City side's clash with Chelsea later on Saturday
takes star billing in this weekend's Premier League fixture list, but some 45,000 fans inside
Anfield - plus, no doubt, a global TV audience of millions - will beg to differ when Liverpool and
Manchester United lock horns again in a lunch-time showdown that will inevitably offer clues about
this season‘s title race.
The two big stories of the transfer window make their debuts tomorrow in two juicy Premier League
fixtures. Dimitar Berbatov and Manchester United take on Liverpool at Anfield in the early Saturday
kickoff. Then later on Robinho should start earning the silly money he's being paid when he makes
his Man City debut against Chelsea.
Liverpool are sweating on the fitness of key players Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres ahead of
Tuesday's Champions League encounter away to Marseille.
Gerrard managed 22 minutes of Saturday's confidence boosting 2-1 win over Manchester United on his
return from a groin operation.
But Spanish international Torres remained on the bench after suffering a hamstring injury against
Aston Villa on Aug.
After Liverpool beat Manchester United at Anfield, Alex Ferguson did the unthinkable and
admitted that Liverpool were the better side!
