Much has been said about the perceived success (or lack of it), of Wenger's ‘Project Youth',
particularly since the move to the Emirates. Arsenal Football Club are now seen as standard bearers
in the development of young professional footballers. But is this accolade warranted or is it a
misnomer?
Nicolas Anelka to MLS? It nearly happened last month. And it could still happen yet. A team "on the
West Coast." Hm... wonder who that could be? As Andre Villas-Boas settles into Chelsea and maps out
those players that are his players and those that are not, Anelka was a second choice striker last
weekend even as Didier Drogba gets his head screwed back on.

As I posted yesterday, Danny Sturridge is welcomed back into the fold for selection tomorrow at
Sunderland and I personally hope he plays up top with Torres and Mata.
Sturridge is featured in The Mirror and has been speaking about our chances this season and firmly
believes Chelsea have the firepower up front to regain the title.
Three Funny Feeling Fridays down, 35 to go. We're 3-for-3 this season in "calling it," as Andy
Johnson (5), Gabriel Agbonlahor (10), and Hugo Rodallega (7) produced the goods against all odds
and against any ownership / interest levels from ... Continue reading →
Off late Chelsea's shape started to look increasingly hour-glass-ish, not the hot kind either,
Laden with strikers and a fairly decent back-line but lacking width to support that top rack!
Interestingly over the years it was very much the opposite with star studded and bloated
midfield.
That's why a fair amount interest was put in players that could add some of that flair in this
transfer window.

Tonight, Chelsea start their Champions League campaign under Andre Villas Boas. AVB has spoken of
the importance of fighting for every competition we enter this season and our quest for the
greatest prize in club football remains. AVB has also spoken of changes from the side that beat
Sunderland at the weekend, but it's important that we start well in the competition.
With the big match at Old Trafford this weekend, Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas has a selection
dilemma ahead of tonight's Champions League match against Bayer Leverkusen. Does he rest some of
his big names so that they will be fresh for the United game?
The answer appears to be yes as indications are that AVB will rest Lampard, Terry and Anelka
tonight to keep them fresh for the weekend.
I really cannot emphasise enough how proud of the team and our manager I am after yesterday's game.
OK we lost the game, but like I said in my match report, we should have got a least a draw. He did
exactly what he said about playing an attacking game, had the balls to take Lampard off at half
time and continued to encourage the side to keep playing our game and to never give up!
I have to say the Nico Anelka reports of the past week are slightly confusing. I hadn't posted on
it as I was waiting until now to do so, but since AVB more or less confirmed that Anelka "wouldn't
be signing a new contract" and when asked does he want to leave, saying "Yes!" indicated to me that
he would be off and more than likely in January.

For a long time now, the media have portrayed us as a club in crisis. Over the last few years,
Arsene Wenger's methods which were once admired and revered have been questioned and put under
scrutiny. We, as Arsenal fans are very loyal to Wenger as we don't – or can't – forget all the
great work he's done in the past.
So tomorrow we are back to the Premier League and new boys Swansea travel to the Bridge with a
couple of familiar faces returning in Brendan Rogers and Scotty Sinclair.
Chelsea will be looking to bounce back after a defeat at United last week that still after a really
good second half performance, leaves me feeling optimistic that, if we can sort out our defending
and regain our usual solidity at the back, we can attack and beat anyone!
Three points, four goals, a red card, and a couple yellows to boot. All in a Saturday. More,
after the jump:
"But I just scored! C'mon son..."
Apologies for the tardiness of this post. Your loyal CO scribes have been busy attending to any
number of personal matters this weekend.
So tomorrow night Juan Mata and Chelsea make their return to Valencia for the second of our group
games in the Champions League. In what you would imagine an emotional return for Mata, surely he
will start the game tomorrow night.
The question remains on who would be the other ten players that start the game tomorrow?
Chelsea drew 1-1 last night away at Valencia which on paper looks like a good point. However, but
for the performance of the Valencia keeper in the second half, Chelsea could have won this by three
or four.
Chelsea's starting eleven saw three changes to the side that played against Swansea at the weekend.
