We've had some exciting midweek matches and a mouthwatering Carling Cup semifinal between Manchester City and Manchester United is soon to come, but all eyes are on the Premier League (and the World Cup draw) this weekend.

Yes, I realize this poll and the previous one are mere formalities. I appreciate you indulging my idiosyncratic need for completion.
I could have included eight in this list and still left out players that were better than some in other polls.

Arsene Wenger is clearly an intelligent man and brilliant manager. However, in the light of his team's 3-0 home humbling to Chelsea, he runs the risk of damaging his considerable credibility. Read on to find out why...

In the build-up to this vital match, Wenger issued a call to arms for his players – they can no longer be considered a young team; now is the time to deliver against the league leaders.

Perhaps this fixture is not as big as the previous week's encounter at Arsenal. Nevertheless, this represents quite a significant point in our season. A win would see Chelsea emerge from an eight-game stretch in which it recorded wins over its three Big 4 rivals and a Big 4 wannabe. The Blues won't encounter a similarly difficult stretch until the final seven weeks of the term.

Anelka has been Chelsea's Champions League hero.

I'm not going to lie; this might be the least interesting group for the last round of matches. Porto and Chelsea have already booked their respective spots while the Europa Cup spot is still up for grabs.

Atletico Madrid vs FC Porto

Madrid will be looking to beat Porto and secure third spot in the group and qualification to the Europa Cup.

Chelsea had already won their CL group, so this result one of the most memorable in Apoel's history was hardly a big surprise, especially given that Carlo 'Benny' Ancelotti picked a slightly weakened team (no Cech, Lampard or Anelka in the starting line-up). Open, entertaining match, though.

Well that was unexpected wasn't it! In my preview of the game tonight I honestly couldn't see us losing the game so as Kakuta took the final pen and it was saved by Robinson I was gutted like the rest of you!. I am sitting here with a feeling of one that got away as far as the League Cup is concerned.

According to the Star (I know, I know), Arsenal have asked Barcelona about the availability of 19-year-old striker Bojan Krkic.

Good idea, Arsene what Arsenal really need is another tiny young forward who can be served up as a starter to the likes of Chris Samba, Nemanja Vidic and Abdoulaye Faye.

So we all knew that we had won the group and last nights game, Matchday 6 of the Champions League group stage could possibly of been a non-event. I still would of liked us to go out and stamp our authority on the game and the Champions League.
Ancelotti rotated the side once more to give players a game and some players a rest.

Well that was another two points dropped yesterday in our pursuit of the Premier League title and luckily enough Villa did us a favour and beat Man United, which stretches our lead at the top of the League to three points. Again, it was a chance to increase our lead at the top but our defending from set plays cost us.

While all the newspaper and blog talk about Chelsea's recent run has suggested four games without a win is symptomatic of defensive meltdown, I've argued that things aren't too far out of kilter at Stamford Bridge.
Bored of all the negative chat circulating on the forums, I've thought back over the four consecutive winless games and considered the positives Chelsea fans can take from the performances.

Its taken me a couple of days to digest Sunday and the conclusion I have come to is that we've done it again, blown the chance to extend our lead at the top of the Premier League and really take the title race by the scruff of the neck.

How times have changed in recent weeks. A month ago we were flying high and playing well and looked formidable. A couple of niggling injuries but that was about it, and Ancelotti rotating players to keep them fresh. Now we are struggling with injuries, not playing well and to be honest in the last few games I have been saying that we will take any kind of win against sides we should be beating easily and given our form at the beginning of the season.
