No Arsenal fans will be surprised that Nicklas Bendtner and Park Chu Young (did he ever join?) have been released by Arsene Wenger, but some of us thought that Chuks Aneke may have been given a new contract after scoring 16 goals on loan at Crewe this season. But it looks like Wenger thinks there [..

Arsenal Players on loan – Who should come back next season?

Arsenal's famous list of "deadwood" players seems to get bigger every year, but for some reason we can never get anyone to actually buy them off us and we have to struggle to send them out on loan every year. But we still do have some talented players out there that have a chance of coming back and becoming first team players of the future.

Sebastian Svard – Denmark (Ghana), 2000-2005, 3 games, 0 goals

Whilst many young Gunners arrive at the club with an enormous promise and buckets of potential, few are signed with reputations as burgeoning as Svard. Bought in November 2000 from FC Kobenhavn's reserve side, Kjobenhavns Boldklub, the youngster had impressed Arsene Wenger after accomplished performances for Denmark's youth teams.

Speeding out?

The Champions League draw will be happening tomorrow and we'll find out who's in our group. We will definitely be one of the top 8 seeds and that should ensure a much easier task than say, Manchester City. On one hand, it would be better if we get weaker teams which should make our qualification to the next stage more comfortable.

Nuri Sahin to Arsenal?

There is talk as per Marca.com that the 23 year old Turkish midfielder who has found playing minutes hard to come under Jose Mourinho maybe on his way to the Premier League on loan, possibly Arsenal. Sahin was left out of Real's pre-season match against Benfica sparking transfer rumours.

As the recently concluded pre season match against City demonstrated, Arsenal had plenty of ball but again lacked that killer bit of midfield creativity to unlock the defense.

Chuks Aneke's loan spell at Stevenage has ended. Aneke has returned to the comforts of The Gunners' London Colney training ground and even featured in the Arsenal reserves' 2-0 win against Chelsea, opening the scoring after 28 minutes. Even though Aneke continues to impress in the Arsenal reserve side, it's fair to say that his loan spell at Broadhall Way was a major disappointment.

Jack Wilshere's successful loan spell at Bolton proved the final piece of his development. More please...

Even before the quarterfinal draw for the Carling Cup paired Arsenal with Manchester City (a.k.a., the Death Squad), many speculated that the reserve teamers logging time on the big stage would soon cede their places to first team players in a push for the silverware.

It's football day once again. Not something you would usually expect so soon, since Arsenal only last played on Sunday. Seemed to remember reading somewhere that the FA asked if we are comfortable with the schedule and we didn't say no. So, no point pondering over that now.

Early Sunday football + news/transfer round-up

This morning sees the final game of the Asia tour as we take on Kitchee FC in Hong Kong. It comes less than 48 hours after the Man City game and with the squad feeling the effects of all the traveling I don't expect this to much more than a training game, to be honest.

We might see more time given to the younger/fringe members of the squad as the senior players played most of the game on Friday and with, I'm sure, all due care and attention being paid to their fitness the last thing we want to do is pick up silly injuries by asking too much of players when there's still a good three weeks until the first game of the Premier League season.

So pre-season began in earnest yesterday with a 2-1 over a Malaysia XI, although it took a couple of late goals to do it.

Having gone ahead in first half injury time with a belter of a goal, the Malaysian side looked fit and determined to cause a 'shock'. We looked very much like a team which was playing its first real game and although we never really clicked we missed a number of very presentable chances.

When Wenger first came to England, the other title contenders had more or less sewn up the scouting network on the British Isles, the next George Best or Denis Law was going to be snapped up by United or Liverpool.

He had his connections in France and other parts of the continent... he stole a massive march on Fergie and Co by signing the likes of Anelka and Fabregras whilst the rest were scouting on a cold evening at Turf Moor.
