Incredible quote from Real Salt Lake head coach Jason Kreis on his teams tough regular season: "I
was very overconfident. I think I added to what was a little bit of an underlying thing on the team
that we were a bit overconfident going into this season.

Will Real Salt Lake and Yura Movsisyan be celebrating at Toyota Park Saturday night? Most agree
that such an accomplishment is possible, yet a Chicago Fire win seems more probable. No matter
what, it should be an entertaining encounter in front of a sellout crowd in Bridgeview.
A lot of the Fire's fortunes will come down to the health of two of their defensive players.

After up and down regular seasons that saw one team consistently dissatisfied with its results
and one team barely scrape its way into the playoffs, it's only fitting that the Chicago Fire and
Real Salt Lake take each other on. Both teams will enter the Eastern Conference Final feeling that
they have something to prove - Chicago wanting to live up to the hype that built up prior to and
during the season and Salt Lake wanting to prove they're first round win over Columbus was more
than merely a fluke.

The second batch of Major League Soccer playoff games saw some tense football, great goals and
short tempers. At the end of it, four teams progressed to the two conference finals. But did David
Beckham and Cuauhtemoc Blanco make it?
On the 5th November, the King was dead.
Columbus Crew were behind 1-0 on aggregate
against
Real Salt Lake and, despite quickly setting about overturning the deficit,
the champions were ejected from the playoffs at the first hurdle.

Chicago defeated the Revolution 2-0 to advance to the Eastern Conference Final of the MLS Cup
Playoffs where they will have the privilege of hosting RSL (A.K.A. The team no one wants right now)
on Saturday.
Chicago and RSL are walking two completely different paths to get to this point.

RSL was down on the strength of two Schelotto goals by the 35th minute and it appeared as if
Crew would be able to get over the one goal disadvantage and advance to the quarter finals. But RSL
struck back from a Javier Morales goal two minutes later. Ten minutes later, RSL were awarded a
penalty by referee Baldemero Toledo, a dubious call on Frankie Hejduk as Espindola went down a bit
too easily.

Andy Williams Seals the Deal for Real in Win
Andy Williams seals the deal for RSL with a late goal in Real's 4-2 aggregate win to
advance in the 2009 MLS Playoffs and move on to the Eastern Conference Final. Last week
after Real Salt Lake beat Columbus at home in Rio Tinto Stadium in Sandy, Utah, Jason Kreis said
something interesting after the game.

Guillermo Barros Schelotto was being counted on to help his Columbus Crew climb out of the one-goal
deficit it faced after a Game One defeat to Real Salt Lake, and he did just that with two
first-half goals in Thursday night's Game Two. Unfortunately for the Crew, the normally stout
defense it was counting on to pitch a shutout delivered a mistake-filled performance that has
helped put an end to Columbus' quest for a repeat.

Fox Soccer Channel really know its soccer. I love the cable network, and I love the broadcasting
duo of Max Bretos and Christopher Sullivan, who worked Saturday's 3-0 Real Salt Lake victory over
the Colorado Rapids.
And although they don't work every Rapids game, the offered keen insight into the team and its
playoff fortunes throughout Saturday night's telecast from Rio Tinto Stadium in Sandy, Utah.

Yes We Can!!! Real Salt Lake was at the base of Mount Timpanogos last night and things
looked bleak, but now RSL is half way up the mountain. When the game game began last night
in Rio Tinto, RSL was four points out of a potential playoff spot with three games left. After
Andy's winning goal, and then the cracking insurance goal by Fabian Espindola, RSL is now one point
out of the playoffs with two games left.

Real Salt Lake remains in the playoff picture after beating New York 2-0 on Wednesday night. Andy
Williams scored in the 80th minute and Fabian Espindola got the second goal in the 90th. "It didn't
matter if it was New York or Houston," Williams said. "We just needed to get our three points. We
weren't thinking about jinxes, or getting over the hump.

I'm tired. So tired. I'm tired losing. So tired.
Ok, so it doesn't work out as well as Weezer's "Tired of Sex", but the sentiment is the same, I'm
plain tired of losing at this point. It's been over 2 months since the team won a game. It's been
over a month since the team scored a goal, and that continued last night back at CAB as Real Salt
Lake came in and got only their second road win of the season, beating KC 1-0.

Yura Movsisyan left tonight's Chicago game with a rotator cuff injury, and although Real played
tough defense against the Fire for 75 minutes, one defensive lapse and a Chicago goal was all it
took for the Fire to earn full point and Real to go home with nothing. Chicago has played well
defensively of late, and a good defense means you don't have to put a lot of points on the board to
win.

First the good news: The
All-Star Game was a delight to watch for many reasons,
well stated by Bill Archer. The game may not be a technical tour de force, and perhaps some players
could use a rest. But the game is free from gamesmanship and cynical defense, and it's a great
platform for segments such as an interview with
Andy Williams, who told ESPN2's
audience that his wife is improving in her bout with leukemia.

Edu has begun rehabilitation that will keep him out for the next three months and the start of

The latest milestone will happen on Saturday when six games are played. Currently, MLS is at 6,994
regular season goals. Brian Ching scored the 6,000th goal, could he also get the 7,000th? That
would be pretty crazy.

I've always had a weird interest in uniform numbers, I don't know why. Maybe because it's the only
part of the kit that's somewhat personalized (aside from their name). It makes you wonder why a
player would choose a particular number. Like why does Salt Lake's Clint Mathis wear 84?
Here's a brief statistical analysis of the chosen MLS digits:
- The lowest number not worn by any player is 35.

I know that Real Salt Lake would rather all of us not think about their Open Cup debacle from last
night, obviously there wasn't much thought put into the match on their part. So, I'm going to focus
my remarks on the joy and joyness that was last Saturday. I mean, can you really talk too much
about a 6-0 victory?

What can I say about the game that Real Salt Lake played against the New England Revolution that
hasn't already been said? I mean, six goals in the second half, and lest it be construed that RSL
was putting weak shots in, I point to the goals by Clint Mathis and Andy Williams, both of which
are up for goal of the week.

Is the warmer weather bringing in more soccer fans? We'll have to see what happens as the summer

this column sometimes focuses too much on how many people are going to games, but it's an easy
standard of measurement.

years after his overall debut in 2007, breaking the record previously held by ex-Chicago Fire
player Jared Montz.
