There was only one thing DC United fans knew for sure going into the 2011 season, and that was this
season couldn't be any worse than the previous one. After setting the standard for futility, the
team not only climbed ...

This Vancouver blog attributes Nizar Khalfan's inability to become a regular starter with the
Whitecaps to being away on international duty and being on the outs with then head coach Tommy
Soehn. "Frankly, I think the Whitecaps should have kept him, and my feeling is the loss of the
Vancouver Whitecaps is the Philadelphia Union's gain.
The Columbus Crew scored two second-half goals to overcome a 1-0 halftime deficit to send D.C.
United to a second loss in four days and severely damaging their playoff hopes. The 2-1 loss leaves

Michael Farfan scored a brilliant second half winner and Sebastien Le Toux had two goals before
half time as the Union moved into second place in the Eastern Conference with an entertaining 3–2
win over DC United. The Union were two goals to the good in just 15 minutes from two masterful Le
Toux goals.
If you haven't seen Andy Najar's opening goal from Saturday's 4-1 United win
over RSL, do yourself a favor and have a look. The 18-year-old's finish is sublime, but it's the
40-yard through ball from Dwayne De Rosario that makes the goal easy on the eyes. It's one of the
best weighted balls I have seen in MLS, and De Rosario capped the assist with a ridiculous
hat trick.
D.C. United bounced back from a disappointing midweek draw with Chivas USA thanks to a stunning hat
trick from Dwayne De Rosario in United's 4-1 win over Real Salt Lake. De Rosario scored three goals
in nine minutes midway through ...
Another one of D.C. United's home grown academy products has been selected to represent their
national team. United announced Friday that midfielder Andy Najar has been called-up by the

A couple things floating around my head on this Friday. The CCL, Charlie Davies and Jimmy Conrad
all warrant comment. Got anything you want to say, let us know below or on Twitter.
MLS and the CONCACAF Champions League- 2011 is looking very good for Major League Soccer.
Perhaps in no place more than the opening of the Champions League where MLS teams went 5 for 5 with
wins.
Chris Pontius scored on either side of halftime and rookie goalkeeper Joe Willis marked his MLS
debut with a shutout to go along with two highlight reel saves to help D.C. United to a 4-0 win

Last Saturday, D.C. United gutted out a 2-0 at San Jose. Dwayne De Rosario's two second half
goals gave D.C. a lead in a frustrating game for both teams. It was only after Andy Najar was sent
off for a professional foul that San Jose seized the initiative, but a committed rear-guard
performance saw D.
Two second-half goals from captain Dwayne De Rosario helped visiting D.C. United to a 2-0 win over
the punch less San Jose Earthquakes last night at Buck Shaw Stadium on the campus of Santa Clara
University. The win was the ...
In a match that very much resembled the oppressive humidity in Frisco, Texas, D.C. United and FC
Dallas slugged their way to a 0-0 draw tonight at Pizza Hut Park. Both teams wilted in the hot and
humid conditions and ...
For the second consecutive weekend, D.C. United allows a late equalizing goal to deny themselves
another opportunity to climb the table in the weak Eastern Conference of Major League Soccer. This

With Danny Mwanga in fine form and completely healthy, Peter Nowak made the Mwagic Man his only

Two new boys for DC
DC United introduced both new acquisitions, with Brandon McDonald slotted into the back four and
Dwayne de Rosario atop a midfield diamond.
Steven Lenhart was a one-man wrecking crew tonight as he scored 3 goals and had the assist on the

By Puck Alright soccer fans, if you are anything like me, you must be foaming at the mouth for the
Gold Cup to finally get underway. After months speculating about the roster, we finally know what
squad the US will be taking out onto the pitch. While "The greatest blog in the history of [...]
While the Gold Cup has traditionally been a battle between Mexico and the United States the
coming edition has the best chance to yield a different finalist in quite some time. Honduras,
Costa Rica, Canada and Jamaica are all legitimate threats in the tournament and are capable of
beating either favorite in a knockout stage game.
A goal line clearance and a pair of saves from FC Dallas goalkeeper Kevin Hartman (left) kept this
match scoreless and denied United a chance to win back-to-back games for the first time since June
2009. Photo: Martin Fernandez.
Josh Wolf (left) and Charlie Davies both scored on either side of halftime to help D.C. United to a
hard fought 2-1 win over the Seattle Sounders last night at chilly RFK Stadium. Photo: Martin

Join the guys as they talked about DC United's recent downward spiral, including the last win vs
Toronto and the losses to Red Bull, The Dynamo, and the Open CUp loss to the Revolution. They guys
also talk about the recent sever injuries to Steve Zakuani and David Ferreira and the rest of the
MLS scoreboard.
The Galaxy celebrates Mike Magee's 12th minute gol against DC United
Okay, let's just get this out of the way at the top: Charlie Davies dove like a
scuba professional searching for treasure in the Caribbean. He dove like the snout of a pig into
the muck of the forest on the search for truffles.
That's an aspirational headline, not an outright prediction. But, having hedged my professional
prognostication reputation with that disclaimer, let's just put it right out there: despite the
rigors of cross-country travel and lurking parity, the Los Angeles Galaxy is the better team in
each of the three match-ups that start tonight with the contest at RFK Stadium against DC United
(then Toronto FC and Chicago Fire).
In a seemingly surprising blow, Andy Najar has finally made his NT decision. Honduras. The 18yo is
a mere 2 months from finishing high school and is already starting for MLS's DC United.Najar moved
to the US from Honduras when he was 13 and has since received his green card, with vocal
aspirations of getting his US citizenship.
Andy Najar is the 18-year old winger, already believed by some to be one of DC United's best
players. He had an impressive first season, making 28 appearances and scoring 5 goals. That
performance created a lot of buzz, particularly because he is a US resident on a path to
citizenship and could play for the USMNT or for his home country, Honduras.

The Andy Najar saga has been moving along for the better part of a year ever since he emerged as DC
United's best youth prospect -- will he decide to play for Honduras, or for the USA? It has been
reported at various times that he would play for the country of his birth, only to have those
reports denied days later.

Last night, Andy Najar, D.C. United's teenage Honduran-American phenom, put the question of which
nation he should represent as an international to the people of Twitter. Considering the timing and
the nonstop speculation over Najar's decision, the query caused what qualifies, in the soccer world
at least, as a mild frenzy.
The rumor mill was in full tilt Tuesday with the news that national team member Charlie Davies
was sent by his French club Sochaux to train with D.C. United in Florida, with a successful
training leading to a year-long loan. Yesterday, the Black-and-Red confirmed Davies was in camp
and was being given a fitness tryout to see if he is physically ready to receive playing time
again.
At the beginning of the year, I asked readers for feedback on different features they would like
to see on the site, with the hope of giving some new content and new opportunities for discussion.
One new idea was to do a round-up feature that would capture the stuff that didn't make it on to
the site but is worth noting about MLS, the lower soccer divisions, the national team, and
Americans abroad.
Happy New Year to all our readers and best wishes in 2011!
The past year was a big one for American soccer. A good but not great World Cup run, a
highlight goal from Landon Donovan, and the controversial rehiring of Bob Bradley after the World
Cup. A first MLS Cup win by Colorado, the signings of Rafa Marquez and Thierry Henry by New York,
but maybe more importantly the rise of young players like Tim Ream, Teal Bunbury, Juan Agudelo, and
Andy Najar.
