With half of England's front line crocked, who can step into the breach?
With Carlos Tevez being linked with a move to Manchester City there has been plenty of talk
surrounding the 'betrayal' this would mean to United fans. Andy Cole and Peter Schmeichel went to
City when their careers were coming to an end and it was no bother for us. When do players ever
leave United at their peak to join City?
Dwight Yorke had a great time at Manchester United, scoring an incredible 30 goals in his first
season with the club. 1998-1999 was a magic season for us and Yorke played a massive part in
it.
The goal that probably stands out in most memories is the equaliser he scored against Juve in
the European Cup semi-finals, after we had gone 2-0 in ten minutes in Turin.
Just when you think you've seen it all, Torino have shelled out £100,000 to lure Dennis Law
from Manchester City. Yes, it's 1961 and the record transfer fee paid to or by an English club has
broken the hundred thousand mark.
Shocking.
The previous record was £65,000 when John Charles moved from Leeds to Juventus in 1957.
It has been easy to laugh at Newcastle United in recent months, not that it makes it right of
course. From Kevin Keegan's typically sudden departure, the frankly ridiculous resurrection of Joe
Kinnear's top flight career, to the second coming of Alan Shearer, via Mike Ashley downing pints in
a replica shirt, Dennis Wise somehow qualifying to be a Football Director, Chris Hughton taking
charge of the team on an almost fortnightly basis, and finally, horror upon horror, relegation from
the Premier League after a sixteen year stay at English football's top table.
For 127 years, the Blues and Reds have battled on the pitches in and around Manchester. Players
hold the derby in such a high regard perhaps best noted by Andy Cole after he joined City in 2005.
"It is an honour to have played for both Manchester Clubs," he said.
Two interesting facts I found recently regarding the Manchester Derby --
1.
1 – Hair Cuts
Newcastle players over the last 30 years have been renowned to have rubbish haircuts, really
starting with Kevin Keegans Perm and Terry McDermotts... well...."mop". Since then they have had
some terrible barnets. Andy Carroll and Fabricio Coloccini are the most recent victims of having
rubbish haircuts but also I need to mention Barry Venisons mullet, Darren Peacocks pony tail and
Joey Bartons prison look.
Forlan only scored 10 Premier League goals in two years and a half at Old Trafford.
His explanation:"The competition was hard at Manchester, there was [Ruud] van Nistelrooy,
[Dwight] Yorke, [Andy] Cole, [Ryan] Giggs, [Ole Gunnar] Solsjkaer.I only appeared for 10 minutes
every time. I left United to revive my career and this challenge proved a good decision.
Michael Owen's shock transfer to Manchester United gives him the chance to be re-united with
Wayne Rooney, a strike partnership that proved so fruitful with the England national side.
A successful pairing up front is often at the heart of a side's success and if they develop a
mutual understanding can prove greater than the sum of their parts.
Andrei Arshavin has become a member of an exclusive list of players to have scored four or more
goals in a Premier League match, joining the likes of Andy Cole, Alan Shearer, Gianluca Vialli and
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
I did a similar piece in the buildup to the Arsenal match a short time ago, there wasn't much
response but I enjoyed looking through the old matches and I assume some of you did too. This time,
leading up to tomorrow's Final I will post three videos of memorable Man Utd-Barca games of yore,
starting with today.
The new Nottingham Forest home shirt for the 2009-10 Championship season has been revealed. Umbro
are the designers of Forest's new home shirt, while online bookmaker Victor Chandler are the shirt
sponsors. The Victor Chandler logo will not be printed on children's shirts, in accordance with
Gambling Commission rules.
Manchester United season ticket holder, Andy Cole, has praised our strikeforce today, claiming
that Wayne Rooney is ready to fill Cristiano Ronaldo's boots and that Dimitar Berbatov is
'elegant'.
"Rooney has started the season really well," said Cole. "He's ready to step into
Ronaldo's shoes.
Liverpool legend Graeme Souness was tough-tackling monster of a player who combined prodigious
talent with a ferocity that made him feared by the opposition. It seems that this mean-streak
continued into his managerial career, with one of his own players on the receiving end of a deadly
Souness special.
Despite being one of the most promising strikers to have been produced in England for some time
Wayne Rooney has never really had the starring role at Old Trafford. Cristiano
Ronaldo was always the focal point in that particular United side but now the Portuguese wizard has
moved to Real Madrid the door has opened for Wayne to really prove himself.
! Article Start >Well here it is, the third and final chapter of my first term, first team
player review. And not a moment too soon it would seem, to take the focus off Llambias' less than
convincing SSN interview. The No.9 shirt is almost as synonymous with Newcastle United, as St
James' Park, the black and white [.

Was I dreaming or did I really see Sir Alex on television this week, complaining about the high
prices of players in today's transfer market? This man once helped set the standard for the
ÜBER-BIG SPENDING. He would never hesitate to bring in enough top players for nearly
two starting XIs worth of winners.
This week has been crazy in pretty much every sense of the word. From insane results in the
Champions League to a magic fight in Madrid to Wes Brown's Zombie Corpse making an appearance in
Moscow, it's been a bit of a random week. So, how better to cap it all off then another dose of The
Weekly Links.
There was only one main highlight of week 12 and that was the unthinkable 9-1 Tottenham-Wigan
match. Jermain Defoe scored five goals in a match where Wigan was torn apart by a second half Spurs
blitz. He now joins Andy Cole and Alan Shearer in the illustrious ranks of goalscorers who scored
five goals in a Premier League match.
When news broke that City were now The Richest Club in the World, their delirious fans were
interviewed outside Wastelands. The general consensus was us lot down the road had been doing it
for the past couple of decades, so why couldn't they? Buying success.
The difference with Chelsea's money or City's money is that it's new, not earned, but given.
Tottenham Hotspur 3-5 Manchester United 29/09/01
What a truly magical Manchester United performance. 3-0 down at half-time and a huge defeat was
on the cards. But Sir Alex Ferguson's hairdryer must have done the trick at the interval as United
had responded from their dismal first half to score five goals.
Kaka's proposed £100m (or whatever it was) move to Man City got a lot of people quite excited.
Including us. But deep down we all knew it was never going to happen. All except Christopher Atkins
that is. This City fan was a true believer. So much so that he went and got "Kaka"
tattooed on [...]
Cristiano Ronaldo, who got stood on in the box during the League Cup final and was booked for
doing so, and who had earlier been throttled in the area only for the ref to wave play on, has
earnt some criticism from City captain, Richard Dunne.
The defender who has scored more goals for us than Anderson, who has also been sent off a
massive three times this season, has flagged Ronaldo up because of his diving.

"Time for changing things has finished," said Sydney FC's new coach Vitezslav Lavicka after his
side's distinctly unimpressive 1-0 win over Sydney Olympic last night. "It was the worst
performance of the whole pre-season."
An honest assessment, and the remark about changing things is pertinent.
Day One: July 29th 2009
Leave home 4.40am to arrive at Manchester Airport for 5am (ish).
Get a full English and watch the planes take off.
Take off 7.05am from Terminal 1. Get the iPod on and read more of Percy Jackson and the Lightning
Thief.
Arrive in Frankfurt for 9.
Andy Cole has joined a long line of former players to still love the club after leaving. He
spent just six of his nineteen year playing career with us but bought a season ticket for his son
and himself and has settled down in Manchester.
Sadly, he will joining Paul Ince, who has returned to MK Dons with his tail between his legs
after a disastrous period with Blackburn Rovers, to help out with their strikers.

First they appoint a former England manager as their Director of Football, then they go and sign
a former England international, surely this is any clubs dream, but evidently not in the case of
Notts County.
We all thought it was too good to be true when the news broke of Sven Goran Eriksson appointment
as the new Director of Football at League Two club, but then we heard money was involved, so, it
wasn't such a shock anymore.

Alex Brosque's return to form this season has been a delight to watch, but this sudden move up the
ranks comes as a surprise nonetheless. The timing is unfortunate, since Brosque was surprisingly
ineffective against Gold Coast United this weekend, especially after the game-changing departure of
Steve Corica.

It was a weekend to remember for Jermain Defoe as the Spurs striker became the
first player in Premiership history to bag 5 goals in a single half. His quintet of
strikes against Wigan trumps the 5 notched by super-strikers Andy Cole and
Alan Shearer who both performed a similar feat last decade but needed the full 90 minutes
to do so.
Wolves are in a relegation dog fight. On the wrong end of a 4-0 drubbing at
Stamford Bridge, Wolves coach Mick McCarthy marched into the away
dressing room after the final whistle and announced to his players that they were in a relegation
dog fight and that they better get used to the idea.

Tottenham 9 Wigan 1 (Premier League, Noviembre 22, 2009)
White Hart Lane fue testigo de la histórica goliza , perpetrada por los Spurs y Jermain
Defoe fue el ejecutor mas rápido de la Premier League inglesa , hizo tres de las dianas
en siete minutos, un hat trick rápido y furioso.
Crisis. That's what the papers are saying. A team in crisis, a manager who is losing the plot.
No, I'm not talking about Liverpool here. This is about the Baroque Social! A bad week for me in
the Fantasy League, but a memorable one for most. Unless, of course, you happen to be a Wigan
defender.
The phone rang. It was Stretford (Cole's agent).
"Andrew, you know you said you'd leave Newcastle to go to one other club?"
"Yes."
"The deal's on. Man United. I'm not messing about. Get yourself and your essentials together and
I'll be up in three or four hours."
Glory Glory!
Stan Collymore is not the most popular man in the country, even less so with Manchester United
fans. If beating women doesn't turn you off him, or his liking for watching others get it on in
carparks, then his irritating ABU stance on TalkSport and in his column in The Mirror
ought to.
In his playing days, Collymore left Nottingham Forest for Liverpool in the summer of 1995, after
an impressive record of 41 league goals in 65 games.
