Alex Brosque's return to form this season has been a delight to watch, but this sudden move up the
ranks comes as a surprise nonetheless. The timing is unfortunate, since Brosque was surprisingly
ineffective against Gold Coast United this weekend, especially after the game-changing departure of
Steve Corica.

Moscow, it's been a bit of a random week. So, how better to cap it all off then another dose of The

Liverpool legend Graeme Souness was tough-tackling monster of a player who combined prodigious
talent with a ferocity that made him feared by the opposition. It seems that this mean-streak
continued into his managerial career, with one of his own players on the receiving end of a deadly
Souness special.

First they appoint a former England manager as their Director of Football, then they go and sign
a former England international, surely this is any clubs dream, but evidently not in the case of
Notts County.
We all thought it was too good to be true when the news broke of Sven Goran Eriksson appointment
as the new Director of Football at League Two club, but then we heard money was involved, so, it
wasn't such a shock anymore.

Despite being one of the most promising strikers to have been produced in England for some time
Wayne Rooney has never really had the starring role at Old Trafford. Cristiano
Ronaldo was always the focal point in that particular United side but now the Portuguese wizard has
moved to Real Madrid the door has opened for Wayne to really prove himself.

Manchester United season ticket holder, Andy Cole, has praised our strikeforce today, claiming
that Wayne Rooney is ready to fill Cristiano Ronaldo's boots and that Dimitar Berbatov is
'elegant'.
"Rooney has started the season really well," said Cole. "He's ready to step into
Ronaldo's shoes.

Dwight Yorke had a great time at Manchester United, scoring an incredible 30 goals in his first
season with the club. 1998-1999 was a magic season for us and Yorke played a massive part in
it.
The goal that probably stands out in most memories is the equaliser he scored against Juve in
the European Cup semi-finals, after we had gone 2-0 in ten minutes in Turin.

It has been easy to laugh at Newcastle United in recent months, not that it makes it right of
course. From Kevin Keegan's typically sudden departure, the frankly ridiculous resurrection of Joe
Kinnear's top flight career, to the second coming of Alan Shearer, via Mike Ashley downing pints in
a replica shirt, Dennis Wise somehow qualifying to be a Football Director, Chris Hughton taking
charge of the team on an almost fortnightly basis, and finally, horror upon horror, relegation from
the Premier League after a sixteen year stay at English football's top table.

"Time for changing things has finished," said Sydney FC's new coach Vitezslav Lavicka after his
side's distinctly unimpressive 1-0 win over Sydney Olympic last night. "It was the worst
performance of the whole pre-season."
An honest assessment, and the remark about changing things is pertinent.

Was I dreaming or did I really see Sir Alex on television this week, complaining about the high
prices of players in today's transfer market? This man once helped set the standard for the
ÜBER-BIG SPENDING. He would never hesitate to bring in enough top players for nearly
two starting XIs worth of winners.

Michael Owen's shock transfer to Manchester United gives him the chance to be re-united with
Wayne Rooney, a strike partnership that proved so fruitful with the England national side.
A successful pairing up front is often at the heart of a side's success and if they develop a
mutual understanding can prove greater than the sum of their parts.

With Carlos Tevez being linked with a move to Manchester City there has been plenty of talk
surrounding the 'betrayal' this would mean to United fans. Andy Cole and Peter Schmeichel went to
City when their careers were coming to an end and it was no bother for us. When do players ever
leave United at their peak to join City?

Just when you think you've seen it all, Torino have shelled out £100,000 to lure Dennis Law
from Manchester City. Yes, it's 1961 and the record transfer fee paid to or by an English club has
broken the hundred thousand mark.
Shocking.
The previous record was £65,000 when John Charles moved from Leeds to Juventus in 1957.

Forlan only scored 10 Premier League goals in two years and a half at Old Trafford.

[Dwight] Yorke, [Andy] Cole, [Ryan] Giggs, [Ole Gunnar] Solsjkaer.I only appeared for 10 minutes
every time. I left United to revive my career and this challenge proved a good decision.

Newcastle players over the last 30 years have been renowned to have rubbish haircuts, really
starting with Kevin Keegans Perm and Terry McDermotts... well...."mop". Since then they have had
some terrible barnets. Andy Carroll and Fabricio Coloccini are the most recent victims of having
rubbish haircuts but also I need to mention Barry Venisons mullet, Darren Peacocks pony tail and
Joey Bartons prison look.

Two interesting facts I found recently regarding the Manchester Derby --

Another great article from former Republic of Ireland forward Tony Cascarino, where Tony questions
the recent signings that Keane has made including Pascal Chimbonda, El Hadji Diouf, and Djibril
Cisse. I disagree with Tony on his views though as I think Roy is doing the best he can within his
resources to bring in players that can help make Sunderland a respectable team within the Premier
League and keep them out of a relegation battle.

Backed by the loudest supporters in the Premier League last season, measured at average peak volume
at 129.2 decibels, almost as loud as a jet, Sunderland will look to improve on last season's

summer signings that he wants more from his club.
