It seems increasingly clear that the signing of Glen Johnson from Portsmouth is a nailed on
certainty. But he's just a full-back; not really the attacking signing Liverpool FC need and not
not really the type of player who can take the club to the next level. Or is he? Mark Jones seems
to think so..
1. The shock of the summer so far. Job seeking Michael Owen signs for Man Utd to the total surprise
of everyone. The striker will take take a substantial cut to his £110,000-a-week wages at
Newcastle to around £30,000-a-week, although he will earn a similar figure if clauses related to
goals, appearances and success are met.

The Chelsea v Inter Milan match in Pasadena, California last night turned out to be a
Hollywood affair as a crapton of celebrities were in attendance, including Charlize Theron, Ashton
Kutcher, Alyssa Milano, and honorary Chelsea captain Will Ferrell. The match ended 2-0 in favor of
Chelsea, but what if it continued?
West Ham keeper sent-off for England Poor old Rob Green was sent-off 14 minutes into England's
World Cup qualifier in Ukraine after being played into trouble by Rio Ferdinand (too casual yet
again). Fortunately for England, Andriy Shevchenko missed the subsequent spot-kick after David
James had come on to replace Aaron Lennon.
Carlo Ancelotti today has confirmed that he expects Andriy Shevchenko to leave the club before the
end of the transfer window on Monday. Sheva was told earlier in the week that he does not feature
in Carlo's Champions League squad and the fact that he has now been told that he will not be given
alot of opportunities in games this season has forced Sheva's hand.
Yeah, that#8217;s right Keep your eyes peeled and when the member of this #8216;band#8217; second
from the right allows his floppy hair to leave his face, you will find none other than Andriy
Shevchenko hidden beneath. The band is then joined on stage by a woman clutching what appear to be
Polaroid photos.
If there is one team that is secretly thriving in a summer of high-profile transfers, it is
Birmingham City. As mentioned by my fellow Premiership Talk writer, Brian Lofrumento, the newly
promoted outfit is reportedly pursuing former Arsenal captain Patrick Viera, which is in addition
to a handful of other acquisitions made recently.
With the recent appointment of Carlo Ancelotti as the new Chelsea manager and the recent
announcement that Andriy Shevchenko will be coming back to the Bridge now that his one-year loan

with the 32-year-old striker.

The Netherlands became the first European team to book their place at the 2010 World Cup Finals at
the weekend after their 2-1 win over Iceland in Reykjavik. The Dutch maintained their 100% record
in the campaign thanks to a goal apiece from Nigel De Jong and Mark Van Bommel, and it leaves them
11 points clear at the top of Group 9 ahead of Scotland who have a game in hand.

is going to have to stay-put in London, at least for the next year.
This is because Andriy Shevchenko says he wants to honour his contract with Chelsea and will report
for pre-season training with the Blues on 9 July.
Too late the hero
So now that former European Footballer of the year has turned his back on Chelsea and his torrid
spell in the English Premier League can we all agree that the transfer of the former AC Milan was a
very poorly judged purchase or was the Ukrainian striker never really given a chance to shine?
By now I'm sure you've heard the big news emanating from Brazil: <a
href="http://football.uk.reuters.com/world/news/LL411936.php">Ronaldinho has been left off the
Selecao callup list for the Confederations Cup and the summer's World Cup qualifying. Not because
of injury or fatigue, but because, as it stands right now, he's not good enough.
‘Sheva' has done precious little to help Ancelotti's cause this season, however, the Ukrainian
was instrumental in brokering the coach's switch to the Premier League. Andriy Shevchenko may have
been a flop on the football field with Milan this season, but it seems he could find employment in
his life after football as a translator.
'Tis a glorious, glorious day. Why, you ask? Well, it's the return of football's most devious WAG:
Mrs. Shevchenko. Back in '06 Mrs. Sheva destroyed a wonderful footballing career by requesting that
her hubby, Mrs. Sheva's hubby, move to London. Things have never been the same and now the Mrs. has
'strongly suggested' her husband move [.
It's one of those days.
Why should we fight it? Our inbox is full of football players in various states of undress and
we need to do the right thing.
Sharing is caring, after all. News of any real variety may have to wait.
To those of you at work that need to
a) remain employed;
b) are getting tired of your co-workers thinking you.
A couple of noteworthy signings are coming through the newswire today, which makes me quite happy,
and should make fans of certain clubs quite happy as well. Of course, if you don't care much for
the actual signings as you do for the sizzling speculation, there's plenty of that for you as well.

discuss a new contract with the player.
Hello Diary!
Things just seem to keep getting better for yours truly.
Since the wonderful tour that nobody kicked me off of in the United States of America, I have
caught the return flight home by a whisker, this time in Mr. Malouda's giant purse, and have found
myself back in my adopted home of London, England.
Wondering who Andriy Shevchenko won't play against in this season's Champions League? Or, are
you intrigued by who Chelsea might be drawn against in tomorrow's CL group stage draw? Never
fear.
Check out the seedings below, then make your prediction. I'll banking on an Inter, Fiorentina,
Standard threesome to join us.
An idea that may not be as crazy as it first sounds.
Let me make this clear from the outset this suggestion is borne totally out of my mind and not
the creation of some mad scientist. First read the latest twist in the "Shevchenko has no Chelsea
future" saga.
Andriy Schevchenko's Chelsea career seems finally over after the Ukrainian was told he
will be dumped from the Blues' Champions League squad.

I guess the headline and accompanying photo gives it away, but would you have been able to identify
Michael Owen's from the following quote:
"Were it not for an unhappy spell at Real Madrid and two injury-scarred years at Newcastle, he
would be spoken about in the same breath as Torres and Ronaldo and valued in the priceless figures
that only match-winning goalscorers ever justify.
The Romans declined the initial bid from Manchester United for the Montenegrin
player, but the question is how they will act if United up the bid. Roma, who are in big financial
problems, would have no problems selling Vucinic for €25 or €30 million. If
that happens, Andriy Shevchenko would probably join Roma.
