Arsenal comfortably beat Wigan today, and it looked to me that this was the best team he could pick. The changes from the Leeds game were possibly obvious, but as far as i was concerned were spot on. Van Persie came in for Chamakh. Andrey Arshavin, Denilson and Nicklas Bendtner were dropped in favour of Theo [.

His performances may not be on par with those of Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo but Robin van Persie is quickly beginning to realize the potential that has made him one of Arsenal's greatest assets. In fact, based on current form, one can make a case the Dutchman being the club's most valuable player (MVP).

This was Arsene Wenger's description of our performance.

We had both a good result and a good performance. We had quality in our attitude, spirit and focus.

Yes, in the end of the day it is the result that matters but on this day, we got all the concoction right.

According to Arsene Wenger, Andrey Arshavin has been suffering from a 'blip' in form but will be back to his best sooner rather than later. Indeed, the boss reckons he is already on his way back but just lacking in confidence. Despite his torrid form he has still contributed a lot to the team this season with seven [.

It might seem very odd to say this, but the last three Arsenal performances have to me indicated a team in form. It might seem odd because, frankly, the two performances before these three games - the first game against Leeds, and the match at Portman Road, were two of the worst Arsenal performances I can remember in ages and ages.

Last gaps stuff from the captain

It was one of those days again for Arsenal. Despite the raft of changes, this was still a side with 10 full internationals plus Denilson that came out to face Leeds United in the FA Cup Third Round. That the opposition was a Championship side only served to show the kind of insipid performance from our squad players.

Has to up the ante from now onwards

This was not something immediately made known after the Leeds United game. It turned out that Sebastien Squillaci has pulled some sort of hamstring and might miss a certain number of games. Examining the statement again, it is not hard to understand why Arsene Wenger might be forced into a January purchase for a centreback.

Afternoon all, another dull, grey and cold one.

The news coming out of the club regarding the injury to Thomas Vermaelen isn't good at all, nor is the news that Sebastian Squillaci will be back so soon has been ruled out for at least two weeks with a grade one pull of the hamstring. I joke, of course.

I normally hate capital letters being used to show shouting or a raised tone of voice. That title isn't so much shouting, more bellowing through a mega-phone.

It's hard to know who is at fault for yesterdays pitiful and frankly disgusting result and performance, the players certainly. The manager, probably.

It took Arsenal an hour to break the frustrating logjam. But in the end Nicklas Bendtner, Laurent Kosicielny, and Cesc Fabregas booked the Gunners to their first Carling Cup final since 2007 and a shot at their first silverware since the 2005 FA Cup. The first half was marked by Robin Van Persie's solitary attempt which struck his mortal enemy, the woodwork (this must be his umpteenth time he's hit either the upright or the crossbar).

No way like the old way, something for the old timers

The last time we played a cup final it was 2005, Patrick Vieira's last kick for Arsenal was to win the FA Cup for us. 2011 will be the year when Arsenal will once again contest in that stage of any competition. Whether this will be the stepping stone for us to achieve more and once again fill up the trophy cabinet still remains to be seen.

We really needed this result. Not so much in terms of a chance winning the Carling Cup - I'm not sure the trophy will mean that much to many of the players - but that we didn't lose to Ipswich. I'd like to see us win the Carling Cup but I'd love to see us win a more major trophy.
