Martin Jol is set to end his month-long pursuit of a striker as the Fulham boss is on the verge
of unveiling Russian striker Pavel Pogrebnyak from the German Bundesliga's VfB Stuttgart.
The 28-year old Pogrebnyak has been capped 30 times by his country, scoring eight goals on the
international stage while also scoring 15 times in 64 league appearances for Stuttgart.
Clint Dempsey hit a second-half hat-trick to lead his Fulham side to an unlikely 5-2 victory over
Newcastle United at Craven Cottage in one of the most eye-catching football scores of the day.
It was a typical case of a game of two halves as Fulham wrestled the initiative from Newcastle
after a one-sided first half.
I'm glad I'm not a football manager. Davide Santon brings down Andrew Johnson this afternoon. Alan
Pardew seemed to have the perfect game plan in the first half, as the Newcastle team completely
outplayed Fulham and Alan Pardew seemed to completely out coach Martin Jol. And then came the
second half.
Bob will be in the house. We hope an impressive victory will be, too.

Two sets of fairly gifted attackers: one set made space and moved the ball like lightning, the
other kept on trying to walk the ball through the most crowded area of the pitch. The game finished
5-0.
We may feel aggrieved at the scoreline, which did flatter United slightly, but our attacking
play, though exciting, was not very bright.

A late goal from FC Twente sub Marc Janko secured a 1-0 away win for the Dutch side against
FUlham last night, a result that leaves the Londoners needing a victory from their final group game
if they are to make it to the last 32.
Yes, I heard that. It would obviously be a step higher, and that has always been my goal. I did
well last season when I was not injured, through many matches for Fulham. So why not step
higher?
Why not indeed? You can look at this a couple of ways: one, footballers are too dull and never
say anything noteworthy, so Dembele is to be applauded for answering a question (in this case about
the very real interest from Spurs) honestly.
Dempsey proves his worth in energy
Clint Dempsey knows he's not the most spectacular player in the Fulham team. The recent
scoring exploits of Andrew Johnson, emergence of Bobby Zamora as an England player and wing
artistry of Damian Duff have tended to hog the headlines.
Starting from this week, I will embed only few videos of my picks, and post links to other great
goals. First, to allow the page to load faster, second, to give more focus to the best goals:
I have three videos to embed: the first is from Egypt. The goal was wonderful, but it becomes to
special when you know it was scored in the 95th minute, with one second left to the 5 minutes given
of injury time, to give his team a 1-0 victory.
European football does strange things to players. Andrew Johnson's league form has been okay
that hat-trick is in the Fulham FC permanent scrapbook but in Europe he seemingly can't be stopped.
Last night he nabbed two more for the collection, and what beauties they were.
But we're getting ahead of ourselves.
Clint Dempsey scored as Fulham routed Queens Park Rangers 6-0 in a new Premier League level London
derby. Andrew Johnson opened the scoring two minutes in at Craven Cottage, with Danny Murphy
converting a penalty in the 20th minute. Johnson finished off his hat-trick with goals in the 38th
and 59th minutes.
As up-and-coming Brazilian star Neymar gets set for one of the more important summers of his
career, his club has come out and said he is not for sale.
Despite Santos attracting lucrative offers from some of the biggest clubs in the world for its
star forward, club president Luis Alvaro de Oliveira said in a statement that "In light of
continuous speculation in the national and international press about the future of our player, I
feel obliged to communicate the departure of Neymar is non-negotiable.
Andrew Johnson first came to our attention in the 2001 League Cup Final at Cardiff.
The Telegraph's report tells the story:
GLORY for Liverpool, sympathy for Birmingham City. This was the first English final decided
on penalties and rarely has a climax been so cruel.

There are four games remaining and the relegation battle is far from decided. Every team at the
bottom has a legitimate shot at staying up. It will be up to the performances over the next four
games to decide who will be in the Premier League in 2011/12.
20. West Ham United, 32 pts - West Ham had the unenviable task of facing Chelsea at Stamford
Bridge over the weekend.
It may well be the Champions League that is stealing all the headlines this week, with Manchester
United heading over to Germany to take on Schalke tonight before Real Madrid and Barcelona lock
horns tomorrow night in the first of two games that are sure to be European classics, but the
Premier League is still all set to experience its fair share of corkers this week, and one of those
could well end up coming in the form of a fixture between Fulham and Bolton at Craven Cottage.
Jared Diamond of the Wall Street Journal wrote an interesting story about the beneficial nature
of second-half subsitutes when a team is down. Citing the "Decision Rule" of Bret Myers, a
professor of management and operations at the Villanova School of Business, Diamond wrote:
[Myers] concluded that if their team is behind, managers should make the first substitution
prior to the 58th minute, the second substitution prior to the 73rd minute and the third prior to
the 79th minute.
It was honours even at Villa Park after a frustrating performance led to points being dropped
for the second time against Fulham this season. An own goal from John Pantsil and a superb goal
from Kyle Walker were both cancelled out by goals from Andrew Johnson and Clint
Dempsey.

Arsenal 2-1 Huddersfield: Arsenal skipper Cesc Fabregas celebrates scoring the winner from the

Wolves 0-1 Stoke: Stoke City defender Robert Huth battles with Wolves' Steven Fletcher.
Manchester City clung on to beat Wolves 4-3 and move to the top of the Premier League, while
struggling champions Chelsea beat Blackburn and Arsenal beat West Ham's.
After Kolo Toure canceled out Nenad Milijas' opener for Wolves, City went 4-1 ahead in the

There's nothing to get the pulse slumping like Wigan away, and the first half was suitably
dire. Chris Baird, revelling in his 'long range specialist' role, had our first two shots,
the first a daisy cutter that Ali Al Habsi saved easily, the second flying into the crowd.
Wigan bounced back with a relatively exhilerating break down the right flank, Stam's crossed at
full-speed, Rodellega got on the end of it but hit the post with a good header.
