So the SuperDraft has come and gone, trailing a string of head-scratching decisions and a certain
Galactic SuperClub pregnant with allocation money in its wake. So lets gargle with the tepid
salt-water of half-baked pseudo-analysis and attempt to rinse the SuperBitter aftertaste of Lalas
and his incessant limelight-grabbing time-out usage, the nattering inanity that is SuperStoner, and
one-track
So it's the day after the Los Angeles Galaxy's awful 3-1 loss to Chicago on Thursday and you're
probably wondering where the Galaxy will go from here. I can tell you where at least one of their
players is.
None other than David Beckham is in New York City today along with wife Victoria to promote
their fragrance lines.
Tickle Michael Bradley is turning into a midfield goal machine and is almost certainly headed for
bigger and better things in the summer with Premier League clubs joining the hunt for his
signature. Will this finally halt the cries of nepotism in the Soccer Nation? . . . Big thanks to
the friendly web-elves who allowed me to witness Wednesday's glorious victory over the Blades
recently.
Fresh home from international duty this week, Maurice Edu was not expected to play for Rangers this
week against Kilmarnock. A late failed fitness test by Kevin Thopmson pressed Edu into duty as a
starter in his debut for his new club before 50,000 home fans. Fellow American DaMarcus Beasley,
also fresh back from Chicago, was also on the field as the Ibrox club found themselves down 1-0 in
the early going.
FC Lorient attacker Andrew Jacobson is on his way to recovery from foot surgery and will be ready for preseason training.
Où est Monsieur Jacobson? Dans mon chenil! That's right--into the goddamn doghouse with you,
wretch! When we first drafted the guy, I had tentative hopes that he might be a player that could
fit in well with United. He gave us something we value (good in possession) in a package that is
somewhat unusual for our roster (6-feet and counting).
It took a while, but Freddy Adu finally made his first start for AS Monaco. The U.S. Olympic
midfielder made the starting XI in Monaco's French Cup match against Paris St. Germain. It could be
Adu's last start for a while after a goal from one-time Chicago Fire target Fabrice Pancrate gave
PSG the win, thus ending Adu's potential source for major playing time.
Ligue 1 action resumes on Saturday with Carlos Bocanegra and Rennes hosting last season's Ligue 2
champions Le Havre, while Freddy Adu and AS Monaco welcome FC Lorient still without Andrew
Jacobson.
Freddy Adu hopes to make his debut in the principality while Andrew Jacobson just wants to make his
professional debut.
Welcome to yet another edition of TvT, FBF's weekly gaze across the width and breadth of the
futboling landscape--or at least the parts that are currently piquing my interest. Tickle DC United
is back in camp--finally! After losing some key pieces of the team (Gomez, BobbyBoswell.com/blog,
Perkins, Carroll-the-elder, Gros), missing out on Veron, but then bringing in a whole horde of
Tickle Michael Bradley can't stop scoring goals in the Eredivisie. Seeing as how I'd recently
finished my campaign to win the Fizzy Soda Pop League for Wednesday in the friendly confines of
FIFA 08 (neutered Wii version), I decided to pop in on Mr. Bradley and his compatriots and give
them a go. After a couple of ineffective matches sporting a 4-4-2 and then a classically Dutch
4-3-3, I
France's Ligue 1 got underway tonight as 19 teams try to break Olympique Lyon's 7-year grip on the
championship. American defender Carlos Bocanegra anchored the central defense for Stade Rennais in
a battle with traditional power Olympique Marseille. It did not help matters that going into the
match, star striker Sylvain Wiltord had been suspended after criticizing coach Guy LaCombe in an
interview with L'Equipe.
