The midfields of both Real Madrid and Barcelona are beginning to resemble Japanese trains at
rush hour. If Jose Mourinho and Pep Guardiola continue to pack more and more players in, it is
likely they will struggle to keep each one happy and in form. Something has to give. So who will
survive the cull, and who will earn starting midfield berths in 2011-12?
Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has received an unlikely piece of advice and
encouragement ahead of Saturday's UEFA Champions League final by none other than Arsenal midfielder
Jack Wilshere.
Manchester United face-off against the Spanish champions and favourites Barcelona in a repeat
of the 2009 Champions League final in Rome where the Catalans ran out comfortable 2-0 winners.
Why Can't the Football World Keep Up With Spain? - originally posted on Soccerlens.com
As the dust settles on Barcelona's fantastic 3-1 demolition of Manchester United in the
Champions League Final, and the national side recently so effortlessly thumped the United States
4-0, one thing is for certain – Spain are the best footballing nation in the world at this moment
in time.
Lionel Messi produced yet another memorable performance as his brilliant brace helped Barcelona
triumph 5-4 on aggregate over bitter rivals Real Madrid to lift the Spanish Super Cup at Camp
Nou.
With the score tied at 2-2 following the first leg in Madrid on Sunday, tonight's thrilling
second leg appeared to be heading for yet another stalemate when Messi broke the deadlock two
minutes from the full-time whistle.

Not really sure if this will be of any interest to anyone, but we thought we'd share anyway.

In these times of comprehensive restraining orders, it's increasingly difficult for us to engage
in our hobby of perving on couples during their most intimate moments. Thankfully though,
footballers as a species tend towards frisky PDA's frequently enough to sate our desire.

given to football.

As Barcelona head into this weekends game against Atletico Madrid looking for a record 16th
successive Liga victory, the question has be asked: Can anyone stop Barcelona this season?
It ha been an amazing season so far at the Camp Nou as Barca seem to set records on a weekly
basis.
So far this season in La Liga, Barcelona have picked up 52 points from a possible 57 after 19
games, which beats their own record from 2008-09.
But what would happen if the teams played each other? Both probably produced their greatest
displays in beating Real Madrid 5-0, Barcelona earlier this season; AC Milan in the European Cup
semifinal in 1989 (both, oddly, also drew 1-1 in the Bernabeu the same season). So let's take the
lineups from those two games and pit them against each other.
Jose Mourinho's paranoia has to be growing after Andres Iniesta escaped a UEFA ban after getting
a 'deliberate' booking for time-wasting.
Iniesta has been cleared of picking up a deliberate yellow card against Shakhtar Donetsk and
will not face any action from UEFA's disciplinary committee, which means he can now play against
Real Madrid at the Bernabeu on April 27.

Barcelona have won their fourth Champions League. It's their second in the past three years, and it
was won with an amazing display of dominance. While Manchester United offered some resistance in
the first half, by the end of the match we saw why Barcelona's ideal style of playing is loved by
so many around the world.

The difference between Barcelona and Manchester United was clear to see during the
Champions League final, as Lionel Messi inspired Pep Guardiola's side to a 3-1
victory.
So Paul Scholes announced his retirement from football this week, after an illustrious career
that spanned well over 700 appearances for club and country. Upon hearing the news I was struck
with a strange, indescribable feeling. It wasn't surprise, as I knew it would either be now or in
12 months time.
After watching how Barcelona passed the ball around the midfield at Wembley a few weeks ago, Tom
Cleverley is determined to use the example set by the likes of Andres Iniesta and Xavi and Pedro to
improve his own game.
"As a United player and fan it wasn't a great experience at Wembley but as part of my education
it was a massive lesson for me," he said.
Andres Iniesta doesn't care if being an unnatural yummy Mummy is all the rage, he still wants to
sneakily take pictures of his new baby momma's healthy bottom anyway. The couple are holidaying
without their daughter Valeria in Sardinia at what appears to be the same hotel frequented by Peter
and Abbey.
I will keep this short and sweet in the interest of time. FIRST and foremost, Xavi's hair will
look like an iguana. No, I don't refer to that pet iguana you had in grade school that eventually
died because you forgot to plug in the hot rock. No, I refer to some sort of wickedly cool animated
iguana who wears a Hawaiian t-shirt, travels by skateboard, constantly gives the thumbs up, and
endorses a variety of delicious fruit-tasting snacks which contain little to no fruit.
The Spanish Super Cup is a preview of things to come for the Spanish League this season, namely the
only thing worth watching: intense and dramatic matches between Real Madrid and Barcelona, fighting
for some title, while the remaining teams remain front row spectators. Never did anyone care so
little about a strike in football!
[That NSFW is rather legit. And rather surprising, actually.]
There's yet to be a version dubbed in English, or that I've seen already, so here's a snippet

When Karim Benzema scored the opener for Real Madrid inside the first minute, some assumed it
was going to be a long night for Barcelona's players and the club's supporters. However, the
Catalans eventually turned the result around in another painful defeat for outspoken coach Jose
Mourinho who, as expected, pretended the loss was not damaging.
SPANISH SPORTS papers become creative during the Xmas Break as Football "stops" but the selling of
papers continue. One inventive daily is Barcelona based "Sport" which comes up with interesting

In addition to the naming of Lionel Messi as the inaugural winner of the FIFA Ballon d'Or, FIFA
also announced Jose Mourinho was named Coach of the Year ahead of World Cup-winning Spain boss
Vicente del Bosque and Barcelona's Pep Guardiola for leading Inter Milan to an unprecedented
Champions League, Serie A and Coppa Italia treble.

After netting 60 goals for club and country during 2010, Barcelona's littlest ball of awesome
Lionel Messi has been bestowed with the inaugural FIFA Ballon d'Or award (this is
the first time that FIFA's Player of the Year award has been merged with France Football's
golden trinket, both of which Messi won last year), pipping teammates Xavi (you
get the feeling this was probably his last chance to have his artisan talents formally recognised
by FIFA during his playing days) and Andres Iniesta into second and third place
respectively.
Last week, the new FIFA version of the Balon d'Or was handed out, and an interesting thing took
place: all three players on the podium (Lionel Messi, Xavi, and Andres Iniesta) were all Barcelona
players. But even more than that, all three had been produced by Barcelona's famous Cantera youth
system.
