FC Zenit Saint Petersburg (Russian: ФК «Зeнит»
Санкт-Петербург)
is a Russian football club from Saint Petersburg. Founded in 1925 (or in 1914 according to some
Russian sources), the club plays in the Russian Premier League and currently is the richest in the
country due to the the ownership of the club by Gazprom.
Today is Arsenal's self imposed deadline for something to happen in the Andrei Arshavin transfer
deal. Follow along with me as I obsessively hit "refresh" in my Google Reader, hoping for
a nibble of fact in this deal. 6:10 am ZOMG HAVE YOU HEARD??? Charlie N'Zogbia, who has been
angling for a transfer to Arsenal [.
I've got three of them today. The first one is not really primarily aboutArsenal related, but it's
by Jonathan Wilson (whose book I ordered from Amazon) and I have a serious football crush on him.
He knows pretty much everything and ... Anyway. It's a good article about Arshavin. The other two
are more directly Arsenal related.
It's the first day of 2009, so Happy New Year everyone. It's also the time of year to start making
New Year's resolutions/promises that won't be kept. Here are 11 that footballers & football teams
should be making for oh-nine: William Gallas - Stop talking to the press, stop sitting in the
centre circle, stop smoking.
Looks like Arsene is trying to sign Arshavin for Arsenal (3 arse's in a row there ) from Zenit St
Petersburg, who value their attacking midfielder at around £20 million. Arsenal will probably
have made a much lower offer for the player, who they feel will be a good signing considering the
recent injury [.
The rumors are starting to heat up, with the Arshavin to Arsenal possibility looking stronger
and stronger. I say that as a result of it being posted on the BBC Sport main page, as a story has
come out revealing Zenit Coach Dick Advocaat 'confirming' the transfer speculation. Now just
because the head coach has mentioned something may happen does not guarantee Arsenal splashing out
the cash demands that Zenit have placed on their star midfielder.
How would like to have been a Manchester City or Blackburn Rovers fan heading from the north of
England to the south, only to do a turnabout and head home after finding out your upcoming fixture
was canceled. I know if it was me, a few words of the four letter variety would have came [...]
First off, I don't think we're going to sign Arshavin, no matter what he wants or says. Which is
really too bad, because it's clear he wants to go to England. It's just that the price is
apparently far too high and Arsenal cannot afford it. Not all is lost, because Wenger seems to
think Eduardo is coming along nicely.
So Andrei Arshavin is starting to make loud noises about his future, and it doesn't look like
playing in Russia is a part of it. He's telling Zenit St. Petersburg that if he has to, he'll
buy out his contract (this is the only link that is currently available, the Telegraph also
reported the same [.

So tired of hearing this or that about the Arshavin madness. I don't even want to write this
post right now, but since everyone and his or her mom is writing and reporting something about a
fee being agreed, I figure I would take this time to whinge about it. Wenger has now come out and
said that the fee everyone has reported has not been agreed upon.
The sooner Rafa Benitez keeps his mouth shut about how teams are playing against Liverpool, even in
off handed ways, and focuses on getting your team back on the winning path; the better off you will
be. The comments made after Liverpool's 1-1 draw at the JJB against Wigan in my mind read like a

We will not spend crazy money, warns Wenger (Guardian) I cannot tell if that's a direct quote, but
I don't care. Because I hope we don't spend crazy money, but instead spend real money. On, oh, Xabi
Alonso. Shay Given (maybe?). Andrei Arshavin, perhaps (I'd just like to point out that I spelled
his name right on the first try).
Young Russian soccer star Andrei Arshavin is urging his club (Zenit St. Petersburg) to let him go
play with Arsenal. Arshavin has already tried to negotiate moves to Barcelona, Real Madrid and
Tottenham unsuccessfully over the summer. The club has been negotiating a sell of about $25 million
but for Arshavin, he believes they [.
I wonder if Manchester City are ready to cut their losses with Robinho at this time. After
the impromptu vacation he took last week, all Manchester City seem willing to do is fine him two
weeks wages. To that I say 'big deal'. Do you think Robinho cares about missing a couple hundred
more thousand [.
So it was relief from an unlikely source this weekend - Nicklas Bendtner. The young Dane hasn't
had the strongest campaign this time around after putting a few good performances on display last
year. Hopefully this goal - a hugely important one at that - provided the difference in a much
needed win against Bolton at the Emirates.
Many, many moons ago, I wrote a little article about how Ronaldinho was going to leave the Nou Camp
and head straight for the Emirates [read it here]... why you ask? Why else, I was bored and I
needed the attention!
In all fairness though, it's cause Arsenal had just published their annual profit and my eye's
nearly popped out of my head when I read how much money they had in their kitty.
Word around the Internets today is that Arsenal is close to signing Andrei Arshavin from Zenit
for anywhere between £13-17m. Dick Advocaat told the Daily Mail that:
"Negotiations with Arsenal continue and the chances are very high that Arshavin will soon
play in the English Premier League.
I've come to the realization that I really like watching football. I mean, yes, we knew that. But
mostly it was restricted to watch certain teams (Arsenal, Milan, DCU and a few other MLS teams).
Recently, though, I've figured out that I'll watch almost (almost) anything. Are we surprised? No.
It is kind of amusing, though.
One hundred and seven million pounds... ONE HUNDRED AND SEVEN MILLION POUNDS??? We all sniggered
when mark Hughes left a good Blackburn side to join an average Manchester City. But he really
landed on his feet with the switch. We the new buyers throwing money at him it seems there will be
no stopping City soon.
Good evening all. I've been a bit lazy the past two days and uninspired. The Arshavin madness
has been driving me a bit insane, and perhaps the saga has reached an end. The Daily Mail is
reporting that an agreement has been reached between Zenit and Arsenal for the tune of £15m. A
large sum, one might say, but when the likes of Berbatov and Robinho are going for around
£30m+, I'll take what I can get.

It's Cardiff City in today's fourth-round FA Cup match at Ninian Park in Wales. The biggest
storyline is Aaron Ramsey facing his old club in a match that should have a good deal of
significance for Arsenal. This could be the club's only legitimate shot at silverware this season,
so I'd expect Wenger to trot out a fairly strong side although I have a hunch that Ramsey will get
some time, either as a starter or off the substitutes bench.
It's always different from the outside looking in, but from these waters it certainly looked as
though the Andrei Arshavin saga wouldn't be concluded until one party wound up dead and the crew
from CSI: would be called in to investigate. But as the slogan goes, Impossible Is Nothing, and
Arsenal have managed to reach [.
