UEFA Cup champs Zenit St. Petersburg just made the single biggest splash of the summer transfer
window by putting down an insane €30m for one Danny Alves, also making him the first player
to break the €30m mark this summer. I know what you're thinking: who the hell is this guy and
why is he [...]
It didn't count, and it got him sent off for a second bookable offence. But Paul Schol's handball
in the dying moments of Man Utd's 2-1 defeat to Zenit St Petersburg was still a might impressive
effort. First of all it's bravely blatant. None of that sneaky stuff favoured by Diego Maradone,
just a full on [.

Days after Arsene Wenger declares his interest in a player, Barcelona come along and ruin his plans
once again. Not content with unsettling Alexander Hleb and Emmanuel Adebayor, the Catalans have
also moved for a player before he's even reached The Emirates Stadium. Zenit St Petersburg have
confirmed that Barcelona have made an approach for their [.
The Good Brazilians in London: Yeah yeah, Portsmouth ain't exactly on their level, but Big Boss is
going to be mighty pleased this season with Luiz & Deco running the show at Stamford Bridge. See,
money can buy happiness. HSV: Hamburger just lost their most bestest player and quite possibly the
finest WAG in the Bundesliga, only [.
Watching Russia beat Holland 3-1 tonight in Basel to qualify for the semi-finals of Euro 2008, we
may have seen the future champions of Europe. Their performance, at times, was simply breathtaking.
Over the entire 120 minutes, the best team deservedly won the match. Holland had plenty of chances
to score but they were, for once, [.
Two days left until the January transfer window opens. I can already feel a bit of a draft. Here's
what might be blowing through... Zenit's baby-faced Russian magician Andrei Arshavin is still being
linked with a move to North London, but now it's Arsenal instead of Spurs. Arshavin's not really a
Cesc Fabregas replacement (more of [.
Here are the odds and ends that have kept me entertained this Tuesday morning:
1). Freddy Adu will join Carlos Bocanegra in France as he is heading to Monaco on a season-long
loan.
2). Ridge Mahoney and Luis Bueno discuss MLS, Mexico and the SuperLiga.
3). David Beckham praises MLS.
The Ballon d'Or is nothing if not a lightning rod for controversy and year-long verbal sparring
matches with inflatable gloves. Yes, some deserving players win it. Others not so deserving also
win it. In short, it's like nearly every other award handed out by any other organization in the
world. But perhaps worth the debate is [.
Big year for Andrei Arshavin. The I-may-look-twelve-but-I'm-almost-twenty-seven-I-swear Zenit
attacker - whether he wants to be or not - has finally come big over in Western Europe with a
wildly successful European Championships and a UEFA Cup title for his boyhood team. All of which
went over well with the Ballon D'Or voters, who hold UEFA [.
This the end of the year (in case you don't own a calendar) and as is custom, it's time for year
end lists. You might do the world's best XI, we decided to do our most favoritest things of 2008
(the three of us doing our own - lord knows Yoann Gourcuff's crotch was not [...]
Since taking over as manager of Zenit St. Petersburg, former Rangers and Dutch national team coach
Dick Advocaat has led the club to new heights, including their first national top-flight
championship in more than two decades last season. Now, along with chasing a title repeat, the
reigning Russian champions are chasing European hardware [.
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is ready to offer £10 million for Zenit St Petersburg midfielder
Andrei Arshavin. The Mirror reports: Wenger has been speaking to Zenit St Petersburg chief Dick
Advocaat about the talented forward who has the kind of flair Wenger loves - and may need if he
loses any of his players that have [.
Mee-lan look set to make Emmanuel Adebayor their newest signing, sending Arsene Wenger scouring for
replacements. The Boss may like the cut of Peter Crouch's under-rated jib, but not for £15m.
Expect Tottenham to outbid themselves by £3m on him, just to be safe. (Football 365) Arsene
may actually have his sights on Sporting [.
During the past two weeks, I can't count how many times I've seen a headline from a major British
newspaper tout that a major transfer deal was going to be concluded within the next 48 hours.
Unbelieveable. It's now Thursday and there's only a few days remaining before the transfer window
slams shut on Monday.
The big question today is who is going to play on the left side of defence for Finland. Toni Kallio
is suspended, and the choice to replace him is between Veli Lampi and Niklas Moisander. Both are in
good form, but Lampi has played for Finland more recently, against Israel and Germany, and looks
likely [.

As with every major football summer tournament, there are plenty of previously unknown players
making themselves heard and putting themselves in the shop window this summer. Premier League sides
are on high alert as Euro 2008 comes to an end and players begin to return to their clubs. There's
set to be a real interest in the stars of Euro 2008 as the summer transfer activity kicks in.
I want to respond to Cameron.
My original article was mainly a criticism of the love given one game samples. Such samples do show
that a player is skilfull but they do not show that the player will always bring offensive
production to his team. As I ellaborated on before, I think Arshavin's long-term stats do indicate
he is a very good player, one who will be perhaps a top 5 player in his position in any league he
joins.
Looks like Andrei Arshavin is being lined up as the new Golden Boy at Chelsea. It's no secret that
the Russian facepuller/playmaker - twice brilliant and once rubbish at Euro 2008 - wants out of
Zenit St Petersburg and into one of the big leagues. The expected destination was Barcelona, but
seems Roman Abramovih has swooped [.
As with every summer, a few names have dominated the headlines and transitioned from transfer story
to full on midday soap opera. You've got The Ronaldo Who Can At Least Get Prostitutes' Genders
Correct, Krispy Kreme's new spokesman Ronaldinho, and another guy who is no stranger to tasty
snacks, Frank Lampard.
Jmayers at The Beautiful Game blog has asked an interesting question: Am I the only one tired of
Arshavin?
He goes on to say: "This guy is getting so many headlines and I don't think he deserves them.
It's not necessarily his fault -- our infatuation [with] transfer rumors probably is -- but with
this guy I'm getting tired of it.
Just last night I thought Finnish football had changed considerably as the U-21 team overturned a
deficit to come out as victors against Austria, but little did I know. Tonight, Finland went down
3-0 against Russia and to make it Finnish enough, the first two goals were Finland's own goals and
Arshavin's strike that settled [.
The Dutch came into the Euro tournament playing some of the most exciting soccer we have seen in a
while. In the group stage they were creative, explosive, and scored tons of goals on their way to
an easy Group C victory. However, their opponents in the Quarterfinals, Russia, came into the game
playing in the exact same style.
Globe and Mail columnist Stephen Brunt on Russian hero Andrei Arshavin,
"[Arshavin is] maybe, for all of the talk of Ronaldo and Deco and Villa and Torres and
Ballack, the best player here."
I realize Brunt is aiming for a sensationalist line, a line to shock all us readers.
With no Euro games going on until Wednesday, lets check up on the latest transfer talk around
Europe. Nasri to Arsenal Young French international Samir Nasri has confirmed on his website that
he will be going to Arsenal. His websites lists a signing figure of 15.8 million euro. The exact
quote from his website is, "We inform you with the news that Samir Nasri will not be an

I have a quick thought on Andrei Arshavin's current popularity and impending sale (although the
stars of the day are deservedly Torres and Xavi)
H.U has already posted that Arshavin is, while a very good player, not a consistent performer at
the highest level. I would agree that the evidence points in this direction - Arshavin can
certainly be expected to produce, but not dominate day in, day out.
A couple weeks ago Andrei Arshavin's agent went on a bit of a tirade, joining the masses suffering
from skewed perception and labeled his client a "slave". We all know Andrei, just like
Cristiano Ronaldo, is not a slave - it was simply agent speak, more commonly known as
"bullshit" - but we didn't know [.
Russian star's recurring dream of not playing for Zenit A trawl through the seemingly endless
stream of quotes from Team Andrei Arshavin since the summer reveals that the Russia international
is a bit of a dreamer. Unfortunately for Andrei, he keeps dreaming that he wants to play for
different clubs and can never quite decide which [.
An exclusive Goal.com report states that Russian hotshot Andrei Arshavin is set to sign for a top
club in either the Premier League, La Liga or the Italian Serie A in January. Andrei Arshavin's
representative Dennis Lachter has been quoted as saying that his client would like to play in
either England, Spain or Italy.

- Rovers 'excited' by Ince - Perhaps this is continuity by any means necessary?
Ince another branch of the SAF coaching tree and could bring a similar approach/tone to Rovers that
Mark Hughes did.
- Milan confirm Adebayor focus - Don't know how much of this is bluster, but
Arsenal really need to hold on to K2.
Despite only playing two games in Basle and Innsbruck, Russian playmaker Andrei Arshavin has become
the hottest property in Europe, with teams all over the continent chasing his signature. The Zenit
St Petersburg playmaker won the Russian championship and the UEFA Cup this season with his hometown
club, and many predicted he would leave the club [.

Andrei Arshavin is world-class material. He deserves a better club and greater recognition than to
spend his entire career languishing in the Russian League. To many soccer fans, this name may not
ring a bell, that is, until the European Championships which concluded last month. Arshavin caught
the eyes of soccer pundits and bigwigs with his [.
Russian star Andrei Arshavin's merry-go-round of speculation has taken a huge twist, and involves
another team from North London as the beneficiaries. The tricky Russian has been linked with
Arsenal and supposedly Barcelona, as they were the player's 'dream club'. Reports claim that
Tottenham have confirmed interest in the play-maker, who recently starred for Zenit St [.
It's certainly been a busy summer at White Hart Lane this year as Juande Ramos begins to weed out
the players he feels are holding Spurs back over the last few weeks and looks to bring in the kind
of players he feels can bring more silverware Tottenham's way. With the exception of Robbie Keane,

Andrei Arshavin, like Cristiano Ronaldo, Rafinha and Lionel Messi (since freed by his captors), is
a slave. Held against his will by his rich vodka-drinking owners and forced to do unthinkable
things like play football for millions of dollars and take cheesy glamour photos in a photo booth
at a St. Petersburg mall.
ZENIT St Petersburg forward Andrei Arshavin could be on his way to Arsenal after the Russian's
agent confirmed that the club were in negotiations with one of England's 'Big Four' about a
possible deal. Arsene Wenger was linked with a move for Euro 2008 star Arshavin over the summer but
interest dwindled and the the [.
