With just two World Cup qualifying matches left for just about every country, it's the last
chance for many countries to make a push at a spot in South Africa next year. Perhaps the best
match slated for this weekend is the matchup between Germany and Russia.

It's a relatively slow day on the transfer news and rumors front, but since it's a Monday, that
may be something to be expected.
Nonetheless, there's still a little something from here and a little something from there to
give you your transfer gossip fix today.

Manchester United is one step away from returning to the Champions League Final, and the Red
Devils will have to dispose of Arsenal today in order to get there.
The Gunners play host to Manchester United today in the second leg of their UEFA Champions
semifinal series. United enters with a 1-0 advantage from the first leg, and will be most people's
pick to progress.
I should preface this by saying that Andrei Arshavin is one of my favourite footballers. He's
got it all, scores goals, makes them, and one of those players you just can't pin down.
However, one lesson we learn watching football every week is that even the best players aren't
great every time they take to the field.

What a game, I think I'm happy with the result because I would of taken a draw at the start of
the night but I am slightly tingled with the feel of sadness and regret because we couldn't hold
oin to that amazing 4-3 scoreline. Oh well I think we showed that wqe have the dpeth in us to
produce goals and that opponents should now fear us slightly more thqan they have this season
already.

Ahhhhhhh! Ahhhhhhhhh! ... My God, it hurts so bad! ... And it's yes, it's leaving a red mark. A
red mark! ... I think that means I'm bleeding internally. ... I don't have much time. ... How could
that Rangers mercenary do this to me? .... I have a family.
The Russian midfielder Andrei Arshavin has been giving his usual forthright answers to the press
when asked about his life at Arsenal, but this time he hasn't said anything that will upset Arsene
Wenger! In fact he gives him great praise, and also had something nice to say about the fans. He
said: "Arsene gave me freedom, [.
With Chelsea looking to be headed in the downward direction in the English Premier League
standings, can it be time for Arsenal to overtake them and claim the fourth spot? I wrote yesterday
before the Scolari firing that there was trouble with Chelsea, and that appears to be even more,
but Arsenal has to take advantage of these opportunities if they want to be considered one of the
top teams in all of Europe.
Well...I don't know. I apologize for the delay between the end of the game and this post, but if
I had posted my thoughts immediately after the end of the match, the Catholic church would have had
legitimate grounds for excommunicating me. So I tried to wait a few hours to cool off before
writing anything.
Steven Gerrard and Daniel Agger threaten Andrei Arshavin with a swirly if he doesn't fork over
the cash during Arsenal's win over Liverpool on Sunday. Arshavin is clearly about to run away, in
fear of getting stuffed in his locker again.

Of all the games we have played this season, I think the Liverpool one has been the one where
the side's major problems were very much exposed yet showing what the certainties ahead of next
season are.
Arshavin
Of all the ratings I've seen yesterday and today, Arshavin's minimum was 9.
Here's news of a fantastic series of football supplements being given away free in The Guardian and
The Observer from this Saturday (in the UK only).
'Foul Play: The Seven Deadly Sins of Football' scratches beneath the shiny veneer of the modern
Premier League era and discovers that the beautiful game has a secret history of the odd, the
unexpected and the downright shady.

ESPNSoccernet: Title in the bag
Telegraph: Carlos Tevez seemingly waved goodbye to Old Trafford as Manchester United claimed
their 18th league title with an uneventful 0-0 draw at home to Arsenal.
Man of the Match
This is a tough one because all the players played so well.
Goals from established first-teamer Andrei Arshavin and young gun Nacer Barazite could not
prevent Arsenal from being restricted to a draw by League Two side Barnet at the Underhill
Stadium.
Many Arsenal fans have always wondered when the "let's not forget how young players are" tag
will be part of the past.
Russian midfielder Andrei Arshavin believes the time has come as the Gunners look to end their
title drought next season.
Arshavin told Sky Sports magazine:
Next season will be like my first real season.
And God said, Let there be beer. And there was beer.
And Arseblogger saw the beer, that it was good: and lo he did drink
the beer.
And while God was off inventing firmament for the earth and fowl to
multiply, Arseblogger did invent the *boilk* and the *boilk* was bad and he could
still taste last night's chips.
All you need to know about the last time these two teams met at Anfield.
This time, however, the circumstances surrounding the fixture are a bit different.
After what turned out to be quite a day for the Premier League table, Arsenal are poised to
signal their title intent. Chelsea, United, Tottenham, and City all dropped points, and tomorrow
presents Arsenal with the chance to start to distance themselves from the rest of the fourth
through eighth-place jumble.
As soon as Emmanuel Adebayor started limping off the field in the 38th minute, it was clear that
the North London derby between Arsenal and Tottenham would swing into the favor of the hosts at the
White Hart Lane. The more important implication of Adebayor's injury, however, was obviously much
beyond this afternoon's game.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger insists fixture compilers have given Manchester United the edge ahead
of the Champions League semi-final.
Arsenal face Liverpool at Anfield tonight before entertaining Middlesbrough on Sunday – just
two days before the semi-final first leg against United at Old Trafford.
Andrei Arshavin put a serious dent in Liverpool's title hopes and did so in amazing fashion.
The Russian star scored four, yes four, goals to help Liverpool earn a 4-4 tie vs. Liverpool at
Anfield on Tuesday. Liverpool avoided defeat courtesy of a Yossi Benayoun equalizer in stoppage
time, but the result still felt like a defeat to a Reds squad that is now even atop the EPL
standings with Manchester United (but with United holding two games in hand).
Arsenal beat Chelsea 2-1 at Stamford Bridge back in November, a win which kicked off Arsenal's
21 match unbeaten run. Some folks say Arsenal were given a bit of good fortune as Robin van
Persie's first goal was widely seen as offside, but sometimes good luck is exactly what a team
needs to kick off a winning run.
Good morning to you, thankfully the season is over and we can just go about our summertime
business like deciding which colour flip-flops to wear and .... oh, bollocks.
Ahead of the United game on Saturday Sylvester has been talking. Now, I have to say I have about
as much interest in what Sylvester thinks about Arsenal as I do in Phil Collins talking about how
many takes it took to do the 'du-dum, du-dum, du-dum du-dum dum dum' bit in In the Air Tonight.
Okay, here's the first part of my Arsenal "Season in Review." I have made "Top 10 Lists" of
good, bad, and indifferent things about Arsenal's 2008-2009 season. Now, to explain, I defined
these terms relative to expectation at the beginning of the year. So, for example, I would say our
performance in the league this year was bad, although many clubs would be ecstatic at finishing in
the top 4.
It wasn't even close. 76% of you voted for Andrei Arshavin in the poll while Robin van Persie
was a distant second at 58%. To put it another way, the difference between 5th place and 2nd place
was just over 10%. It's a comfortable win for the little Russian and here's why.
First, he had to overcome the negative press that those racists at Zenit were spewing in order
to make themselves look like the better party in this deal.
Reports filtered in yesterday, starting with the Guardian and the Independent that United have
made it a long-term transfer policy of buying players only under 26 years of age.
The reports go on to claim that Berbatov's purchase was regarded as an exception to this rule.
The main thinking behind this is that the resale value of a player would go down significantly if a
player over 26 signed on for the club.

There have been many occasions in recent years where the genius of Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger
has been brought into question. After all, the trophy cabinet has been empty for four years and
everyone, from skipper Cesc Fabregas to that little child in the upper tier at the
Emirates, is becoming increasingly restless with the club's underachievements.
Arsenal opened their Emirates Cup participation with a last gasp win against Atletico, with 54,

The Emirates Cup has signaled a change in formation for the coming campaign as manager Arsene

Arsene Wenger has lost his religion. Or make that, devoting more time to what had made his
previous sides a joy to watch.
I think the first thing that needs to be said about yesterday's result is how much we clearly
missed Adebayor and Toure. It might have been eight with them and you know goal difference might
just be the difference between winning and losing this league. Wenger out.
But seriously, what a way to start the season.
Eduardo put Arsenal out of reach after earning a penalty after seemingly not being touched by
Celtic keeper Artur Boruc. Emmanuel Eboue added a second after good work from Bendtner and Diaby.
