In a game that mirrors the regular season match up between these two schools, it was McAuley that storms back from a 3-1 deficit to first tie, and finally win the match this evening. A replica of Greenwood's results at McAuley in late April.

The first goal of the match game from Shelby Stewart on a shot from distance that snuck in, giving the Vikings a 1-0 lead. Later in the first half Melanie Allen crossed a great ball to Jessica Maerz who was running on and struck the ball into the corner netting for a 2-0 lead that the Vikings took into halftime.

A common theme the past two seasons has been the increasing quality of the players who are advancing to the high school ranks. I wrote about it May 1st when I interviewed Natalie Smid and Rachel Scott of Springfield Catholic. I still remember the job that Ozark's freshman did last year when the Tigers Opened Irish Eyes.

My earlier 3-0 report was the score that KOLR10 reported on their news broadcast last night. It was good to see them covering soccer. I'll get more details on the game soon. Hillcrest goals were scored by Jessica Bass (2), Erin Boschen (3), Kelsie Moss and Kala VanHuss.

It can't be called a surprise, or even an upset necessarily, but the Class 1 Springfield Catholic squad visited their Class 2 neighbors and earned a 1-0 victory tonight. The goal was scored by senior Anne Prenger, on a 50 yard direct kick that appeared to surprise the Kickapoo goalkeeper, dropping in front of her on the edge of the six-yard box and settling into the net after bouncing over her head.
