There's something beautifully eerie about Arsenal's Emirates stadium when it experiences a night
of snowfall. It almost looks like a scene out of the Twilight Zone and the colour
of the sky just takes you to a different place. What are these goose pimples? Bring back
November, please!
He won't mind seeing a fit Wilshere
Let's start with the obvious shall we. The Champions League draw takes precedent and rightly so.
The biggest tournament in club football today and the 2nd round draw took place without any
Manchester clubs in it. For our efforts of finishing top of our group, we were rewarded with a date
against AC Milan.
The most prized left foot in the club now
When it rains, it pours. Especially when it is related to the Arsenal injury news. If you
haven't already heard, Andre Santos will need to undergo a surgery to repair his damaged ligament
in his right ankle. That will take him out of action right until middle of March.
Morning all.
Last night Chelsea beat Man City. Not with iron bars, sadly. If it were up to me teams I didn't
like (which is all of them) would be sent onto the pitch carrying clubs and planks with nails
sticking out of them and told to have at each other. The team with most men left standing at the
end gets the three points.

With so much grief given out to our esteemed manager during pre season, and with another
transfer window just around the corner, I thought it might be a good time to see how Wenger's
apparent 'panic buys' have compared to the big money signings of some of our closest league
rivals.

Yossi opens his accounts for Arsenal
This was Arsenal's first defeat in this season's Champions League and it had we not qualified
prior, it would be shambolic rather than comical. Olympiacos must have thought we'd done them a
favour but they could rightly be disappointed to miss out on the next stage.
Organisation, the people and the way they work three reasons why Arsenal's Andre Santos opted for

of praise for manager ...

Arsenal defender Andre Santos believes the Gunners should be positive after last Saturday's 1-1
draw against Fulham, at home. Speaking to Arsenal's official website after the game, the Brazilian
confessed that it wasn't an easy game ...
Premier League action later today as we take on Fulham at the Grove.
Regardless of who has been in charge over the last few years this has generally been a pretty
tight affair. Ok, there's been an away 3-0 and a home 4-0 in recent years but they've been tough to
break down and when we talk about goalkeepers having one of those game Schwarzer has done that more
than once against us.
The only fit first team fullback left
With everyone safe and sound back at Arsenal, Arsene Wenger conducted his pre match press
conference today. The topics which he covered can be seen here. As with any presser, the more
important topics usually covers who's out and who's back in the squad.
George "Geordie" Armstrong died of a brain haemorrhage after collapsing on the training field 11
years ago on the first of this month. He was a year younger than me and joined the club as a
17-year-old, two years after I had first claimed my permanent place on the terraces as a
15-year-old. He was my first footballing idol and was to be associated with the club on and off for
39 years.
The criticism of Arsène for trying to force square pegs into round holes has frequently been
levelled over recent seasons. Bendtner, Eboue and Arshavin in particular have all been deployed in
areas that would not be their first choice let alone the Championship Managers among us. The reason
for this has generally been a lack of depth in the squad exacerbated by the perennial injury
problems that have depleted us so cruelly at vital times.
Defender re-opens homophobia in football argument After Arsenal beat West Brom yesterday, new
signing Andre Santos took to Twitter to celebrate the victory. Unfortunately, as English isn't
Santos' first language he made something of a schoolboy error in his short tweet, as you can see.
We can imagine two things will happen now: 1.
Booo, chilly this morning. This better not be the start of it now. Mother Nature needs a good
talking to.
Anyway, today is West Brom at home and last season this was a game which was one which generated
much frustration. I've looked back over the blog post and I was surprisingly magnanimous about West
Brom, giving them lots of credit for their performance, but there was obvious grumpiness at
Arsenal's.

Arsenal defender Andre Santos revealed that English football is different than what he was used to
but is adapting well in his new role. The former Corinthians and Fenerbahçe man was one of the

Capturing the best performers
It probably wasn't easy for the players. Some team lives on the high of the magnificent victory
from the previous game and goes on a rampage in the next few weeks/games. Some teams clings on to
that magnificent victory and thought they didn't have to do much to win the following games.

How are you feeling this morning?
Still glowing?
Yeah, me too.
We have kind of forgotten what it's like to enjoy a BIG win; a meaningful win; a surprise win
against the odds.
Most of our surprises in the last six months have been nasty ones – the kind Mrs Gary Neville
has every morning when she wakes up and sees who's beside her.
Boring, boring Chelsea. I reckon the talking heads can go ahead and euthanize that once trusted,
but now extremely tired and inaccurate saying. We have been anything but boring this season for
good and for bad.
Saturday? Bad. Really fucking bad. Somehow, some way, in a match that defied all logic, Chelsea
managed to put together a 45-minute performance of such dire abjectness that it hadn't been seen by
these eyes before.
Terry testing to see if the ground is soft enough for a tumble
There are ways to make this piece an epic one. Considering the result, it would not be too hard
to do that but also because of the result, there's no need for any of that. The 5-3 drubbing we
dished out to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge should take all the headlines and praises.
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is fully aware that pundits will rip apart Chelsea's deteriorating
defense but the Frenchman believes that today's 5-3 win should be attributed to the offensive
quality of his side.
The Gunners looked shaky themselves on the defensive front but their relentless attack on the
Blues' goal was rewarded with a hat-trick was skipper Robin van Persie as well as a goal apiece for
Andre Santos and Theo Walcott.
The goal scorer and the muffler
Not quite the class of the goal that Dennis Bergkamp scored but it was a goal that was enough to
send us top of the group with a point ahead of the beaten side, Marseille. Another one of those
where the result was more important than the performance. 5 wins out of 6 games now and that is
momentum building.
See that ugly, hideous, deformed creature over there? No, not Tevez. Beyond that. Moving away
into the distance? Yeah. That one. That's the final Interlull of 2011. It's not too late to pick up
some stones and throw them at it, calling it names as it departs to its filthy lair, some
hibernation on the cards before it resurfaces next year.
New Arsenal signings Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Andre Santos were both delighted to score for the
Gunners in their Champions League debut. Speaking after the game, the Englishman explained that he
was honoured and proud to start ...
We won. Chelsea didn't. Man City didn't. Man United didn't. We did, and that's the important
bit, especially bearing in mind that we had nine injured players and (with the North London Derby
coming up) only five genuine first choice players were in the starting XI.
The performance wasn't the best, but neither was it the worst.
Giving the captain a ride
It was another one of the those time during the final whistle where the points was more
important than the performance. Too many times have we sat in this position thinking of dropped
points and lost games but could still pride ourself with the wonderful attacking display which
amounted to no points.
Video reaction and highlights
It would be fair to say that the performance last night wasn't much to write home about, but
when it comes to Champions League group stage matches very rarely do people look back in time to
comment about how we played. The history books will show that Arsenal won, our 9th home win in our
last 10 European games apparently, and that two debut goal scorers ensured Arsenal took the
points.
There was that funny quote from Bate's Filipp Rudik at the Barcelona press
conference two days ago where he said : "Barcelona's players are from outer space". The photo above
perfectly describes this. After being hammered 5-0 by the Catalans last night, all poor
Aleksandr Gutor could do was to sit down and wonder where it all went wrong as the
said creatures walked past him.
Arsenal full-back Andre Santos adds to Alex Oxlade Chamberlains debut goal with
his own as the Gunner's take a 2-0 lead against Olympiakos at the Emirates.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Andre Santos have struck early for Arsenal to give the home side a
2-1 advantage over the visiting Olympiakos during the first half at the Emirates Stadium.
The Gunners left skipper Robin van Persie and key playmaker Aaron Ramsey on the bench in
anticipation of Sunday's cracking North London derby but that did not prevent them from dominating
in the early stages of their Group F match.
(Summary is not available.)
Shell shocked Gunners
Just when we asked for a little more consistency and building on recent improvements to go on a
little positive run of matches, this happened. Abysmal, is the only word I can find to fully
explain this defeat at Ewood Park. From having a 2-1 lead going into half time and seemingly in
full control of the game, we wilted in the second half.
Let me start by stating the views held below are entirely my own and in no way represent the
views of the site.
Anyone who has read my pre-matches over the seasons will know that I am not a huge fan of
Blackburn, I will go further and say that for many seasons they have represented all that is
reprehensible in football from top to bottom.
Arsenal Wenger promised us an "active" summer transfer window. And boy, he stuck to his
word!
Although at times, it appeared that the number of players coming in was going to be limited,
Arsene kept his promise and captured a number of quality players, in the last few moments of the
summer transfer window.
Someone questioned on the blog yesterday whether our new line-up would be able to score enough
goals, so I thought it would be interesting to compare the goalscoring prowess of the new players
against those who have departed based on past performances.
Now I realise that stats are generally just a way of manipulating figures so they masquerade as
facts.
