European champions Spain were given no favors this morning when the draw for the UEFA EURO 2012
qualifying rounds were made. Spain's group includes the Czech Republic, Scotland, Lithuania and

Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan and the side they beat in a dramatic UEFA EURO 2008 semi-final, Turkey.
Portsmouth and Ireland defender Marc Wilson has insisted players born in the North of
Ireland should be allowed to decide whether they want to represent Ireland or the North at
international level.
Wilson, named in the Ireland squad for Tuesday's friendly against Brazil, is from Aghagallon in
County Antrim.

A meeting to arrange group B fixtures for Ireland's group in the forthcoming European
Championship qualifers has ended without agreement in Moscow.
The FAI Cheif Executive, John Delaney, told RTÉ that Ireland, Russia and Slovakia did agree dates,
but one of the other countries applied their veto.

The opening match of the Champions League was set to take place today as Birkirkara of Malta
traveled to the Pyrenees to face Santa Coloma at the Estadi Comunal in La Vella, Andorra.
But the match was postponed due to a playing surface that is not conducive to the health and

After the nightmare that 2009's World Cup qualifying campaign turned out to be for
Giovanni Trapattoni's Boys in Green, you could forgive the Republic of Ireland's Italian manager
for being relieved to see his team collect the highest possible points from their opening games
against Armenia and Andorra.
In yesterday's round of Euro 2012 qualifying games Portugal lost in Norway, while France put their
qualification back on track with a win on the road in Sarajevo against Bosnia.
The Netherlands won 2-1 in Rotterdam against Finland, England won 3-1 in Switzerland and Italy hit
5 in Florence against the hapless Faroe Islands.
The result was never really in doubt as the gulf in footballing ability was obvious, with
Kevin Kilbane, Kevin Doyle and Robbie Keane all finding the back of the net for Ireland in their
second European qualifier against Andorra in Dublin last night.
But Andorra may have won over a few critics with their combative display, and they even managed to
notch a goal of their own through Christian Martinez's thunderbolt.
