Appreciation

The legends descended on the hallowed turf of the Grove. This is probably the first time that I've ever used hallowed turf and new-ish stadium in the same sentence. For me (and I'm sure many others too), Highbury remained the truly real Arsenal stadium. However, with each match/season and the growing memories, not forgetting the continual Arsenalisation of the stadium, Emirates Stadium is turning into home.

By Alan Duffy

Back on this day in 1990, Manchester United and Arsenal clashed at Old Trafford in a game which would sow the seeds of much thuggery between the two clubs in the years to follow.

Nigel "Nutty" Winterburn tackled Brian McClair, who then kicked seven shades of s**t out of the Arsenal left-back.

The starting all-around forward for the Rapids All-Time Team is John Spencer.
How Acquired: Transferred for free from Scottish side Motherwell.
Years In Colorado: 2001 through 2004
How Departed: Retired after the 2004 season.
For the final player pick on the All-Time team I went with possibly the biggest heart the team has ever had (though Kimura gives him a run for his money) the wee Scotsman John Spencer.

Joining the elite group of players to score from (around) the half-way line, a group which includes the likes of Anders Limpar, David Beckham, Xabi Alonso and Nayim, is Coleraine defender Johnny Black.

The youngster fired home his wonder-goal against Portadown on Saturday in his side's 4-3 Carling Premiership win.

Are goalscorers overrated?

Football teams consistently seem to want goalscorers, someone to push them over the top, take them to the next level. But having had a rummage around in the game's history, I've begun to wonder if this desire is not misplaced.

It started when I was reading about Arsenal's 1990-91 side. This team is not looked back upon with any great fondness, partly because it did its thing just before the Premier League era, partly because George Graham's sides have been slightly tarnished with age.

The starting right midfielder for the Rapids All-Time Team is Anders Limpar.
How Acquired: Signed as a free agent from Swedish side AIK.
Years In Colorado: 1999 through 2000
How Departed: Left as a free agent, signed but never played for Swedish side Djurgardens IF before retiring
Our first international player in the All-Time team, Anders Limpar might be a bit of a surprise in this position.

Arsenal.com are currently running an all time dream team vote. The problem with this it is often only the young who vote and recent memory can skew the result.

We have a wide church here with regard to ages so how about we all pick our all time eleven, manager, coach, physio and you can even throw in a few squad players.
