First aid, second pain Spare a thought for Anderlecht goalkeeper Daniel Zitka who - already in a
world of pain after breaking his leg - was dropped from a stretcher while being carried from pitch.
Zitka fell victim to a clumsy stretcher bearer who lost his footing and took a nosedive towards the
turf.
As European's elite begin preparation for another season of shocks, surprises and the inevitable
media-circus around Jose Mourinho's long-awaited return to the Champions League, two of the leading
performers have already stolen the show by making history. The heroes and villains of Champions
League football usually arise as the latter stages progress, but Anorthosis Famagusta and FC BATE
have already acclaimed success by remarkably reaching the Group Stages for the very first time.
Not to be outdone by Ajax, Bayern Munich matched the run of the Dutch club by taking its third
consecutive Champions Cup title in 1976. This time around, the game took place in Glasgow,
Scotland, and Bayern defeated St. Etienne 1-0 on a second-half goal by Franz Roth. Once again,
Bayern Munich failed to win the Bundesliga and failed to finish on top in the WCR rankings, though
they did come closer in 1976, finishing third in both.
Oguchi Onyewu and Standard Liege reconfirmed their dominance in the Jupiler Pro League by picking
up the win over Anderlecht, while the Brugge boys, Patrick Lane and Jared Jeffrey still wait for
their professional debuts in Belgian soccer action.
Manchester City have completed the signing of young Belgian defender Vincent Kompany from German
club Hamburger SV. The 22 year old, regarded as one of the brightest talents in Europe, joined
Hamburg from Anderlecht in 2006 for two million euros. Kompany has signed a four year deal at
Eastlands, and is expected to feature in [.
Being likened to Franz Beckenbauer is not a comparison which many footballers could honestly admit
to, but for one Belgian defender it is a justified truth and one he can be honoured about. Vincent
Kompany, once described by Belgium legend Paul Van Himst as being able to "beat three
opponents with one pass", has switched life in the German Bundesliga for the starry lights of
the Premiership with Manchester City.
Oguchi Onyewu and the Belgian champions welcome top of the league Anderlecht to their fortress on
the Meuse River, while Jared Jeffrey will be hoping to kick off his professional career in weekend
Belgian action.
Defending champions Standard de Liege won their crucial top of the table clash against RSC
Anderlecht 2-1 at the Stade Maurice Dufrasne. The result sees Liege go three points ahead of Ariel
Jacobs' side and boosts their confidence ahead of their UEFA Cup tie against Everton next week.

There is a story flying about today about Martin Jol wanting to take Didier Zokora to Hamburg. As
far as I'm concerned, it's a total fabrication.
Jol didn't even want him at Spurs, his transfer was all Comolli's work, why the hell would he want
him at Hamburg?!
I saw Zokora play in a friendly at White Hart Lane against Real Sociedad, must be two years ago
now.

Our man Ives from SBI just posted a rundown of how all of the Americans Outsourced to Europe™
fared on the continent over the weekend. One player was left off of the list an he probably had the
biggest game of them all: Oguchi Onyewu.
The Standard Liege defender had a game a large as his body, scoring twice in a 3-1 over Anderlecht
in the Belgian Super Cup.
All roads lead to Rome for Liverpool in next season's Champions League competition. The 2009 final
will be staged at the Stadio Olimpico in Italy's capital and on two of the three previous occasions
that the Eternal City has hosted European football's biggest game of the season Liverpool have
emerged as winners.
Guinea striker Souleymane Youla will make a return to Turkey in the coming season after agreeing to
join newly promoted Eskisehirspor on a season long loan. The forward moved to Lille from Besiktas
in 2006 for $2m, but struggled to cement a first team place. He has also played for Lokeren and
Anderlecht in Belgium, [.

Bizde adet oyunculara baklava götürmektir. Tribünün abileri
yaptırdıkları baklavayı basın mensuplarının huzurunda takım

The second qualifying round brought two big upsets as Rangers and Anderlecht became two of the
biggest clubs to be knocked out at this stage. A 2-1 win (video highlights here) in Lithuania saw
FBK Kaunas (pictured celebrating at the right) take full advantage of the 0-0 draw they earned at
Ibrox to send the beaten [.
Two early goals from American Oguchi Onyewu helped Standard Liége to a 3-1 win over Anderlecht
to take the 2008 Belgian Super Cup. The match is the traditional curtain-raiser for the Belgian
season and pits the previous season's Belgian League and Belgian Cup winners. It's the third Super
Cup title for Les Rouches but they remain a long ways behind 12-time winner Club Brugge in the
all-time ranking.
Beyaz Rus takımı BATE Borisov, Bulgar Levski'yi deplasmanda 1-0 yenerek
büyük ölçüde Şampiyonlar Ligi vizesi aldı. Asıl
başarıları önceki turda Anderlecht'i geçmek olmuştu. Levski daha
hafif gelmiş olmalı. Kuzey Kıbrıslı Anorthosis ise anavatandan
Olimpiakos'u şaşkına çevirdi.
