With ten games left in the season, Man United, Arsenal, Man City and Chelsea all have dreams of
winning the league this season. Over the next two months there are eight games involving the top
six that will not only decide who wins the league, but also who is playing in the Champions League
next season.
Some kind soul has uploaded our new manager's first full interview with Chelsea TV to
Youtube.
Based solely off the interview, I like the guy.
Points of interest:
- The proper way to pronounce "Villas-Boas"
- Already referring to Chelsea as "we," even when discussing recent years when he wasn't here
- Acknowledging the work that Ancelotti and other past managers have done for the club
- Sounds like he really wants to focus closely on man-management as well as the team management
- Just seems very aware of the situation at the club and eager to impress and do well but keep the
focus on the team rather than himself
As I've said already, this appointment already has me excited for preseason and seeing our Blues
in action once again.
While one or two of the more hardy Kickette staff have bothered to crawl out of bed and hit the
‘Post' button during the holidays, the majority of us have remained happily buried beneath
mountains of Christmas wrap and tinsel, blissed out and blessedly unaware of the world outside.
If you too have found yourself back at your desk this morning for the first time since finding
out you actually could eat your own weight in confectionary, here is a quick rundown of what (we
think) happened over the festive break.

The International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS), which sounds like a
tremendously fun place to work, has voted Arsene Wenger the No.1 football coach of the last decade.
Wenger > Fergie, Mourinho, Allardyce, Megson, Brown et al.
Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti spoke of "turning corners" and of having brought to an end a
"difficult moment which went on too long", following their much-needed victory over Bolton
Wanderers. The Blues won in a one-sided affair at the Reebok Stadium with unanswered goals from
Didier Drogba, Florent Malouda, Nicolas Anelka and Ramires, and the result marks the first time
that they have won back-to-back Premier League wins since the end of October.
The transfer deadline day madness that resulted in Chelsea spending 70m+ and two new entries on
the most expensive football transfers list had people wondering what had happened to the 'age of
austerity' as brought about by the financial crunch and UEFA Financial Fair Play policy. It's not
every day that 24m and 27m buys (Bent and Dzeko) are a forgotten footnote in transfer spending.
I have to say I am gutted about this one like the rest of you. To see us lose on Penalties again is
hard to take but as Carlo said after the game. "We have to move on". The problem for me is the fact
that it should never have got that far anyway. Tim Howard kept Everton in the game as it was
another 90 minutes passed without a Chelsea goal and let's be honest here, how long can we carry on
playing like this.
We all know that Sunday is a massive game against City. We all know that we sit 9 points behind
United with a game in hand and we all know it will take some doing to catch both United and Arsenal
before the end of the season. However, there are signs that the tide could be turning with news of
United and Arsenal's injury problems that could really affect their seasons.
Stoke City are sitting pretty in tenth place in the EPL this season only three points off the
dizzy heights of seventh place. Not many like to watch Tony Pulis' side, and fans of other Premier
League teams see them as a blot on the landscape because of their style of play. But Stoke are
suffering from the same label as was bestowed on Sam Allardyce's Bolton side.
Opaco Chelsea, ruspante e vincente Manchester in Champions League. Più che tessere le lodi della
squadra guidata da Ferguson, davanti alla quale ci inchiniamo per vederla per la quattordicesima
volta nella storia della massima competizione europea in semifinale, siamo di fronte ad una palese
resa della squadra londinese.
I think all of us have been left tonight with the same feeling about the game today. The feeling we
have is that it's typical of our season. We made a great start, suffered a dodgy patch through the
middle of the game, got ourselves together and back in the running towards the end but let it slip
in the final moments!
Unbelievable.
Outro.
Classless.
I can't emphasize that enough. Sure, many of us figured the end was nigh for Carlo. After months
of speculation, the double losses to United in the CL and PL essentially sealed his fate some weeks
ago, with the remaining matches on our schedule an overall exercise in futility.
Chelsea's season has ended without a trophy, and whilst Ancelotti believed he may find out
"this week" about his fate, owner Roman Abramovich had other ideas and wielded his axe not even
twenty four hours after the final day defeat to Everton.
Ancelotti's departure is a shame on two fronts.

UPDATE: VILLAS-BOAS HAS SIGNED A THREE YEAR CONTRACT WITH CHELSEA
Andre Villas-Boas has resigned from his post as Porto manager amidst widespread speculation he will
be installed as the next Chelsea boss, with a Portuguese news agency claiming the 33-year-old paid
the €15 million release clause in his contract that allows him to leave the club himself.
I posted the other week Enough is Enough and following on from that I still can't believe the
negativity towards Chelsea ahead of the new season by some of you fans. I cannot believe or
understand where you are coming from at all.
Granted, everyone has freedom of speech and have every right to air their opinions but I really
can't understand how you people are not looking forward to the new season.
Pressure mounting on Villas-Boas at Chelsea - SI.com.
When Chelsea selected ex-Porto manager Andre Villas-Boas to be their new leader last summer,
many fans were scratching their heads to figure out who he was, and why he was chosen, but people
in the game however, had no reservations about his ability to lead the London club back to it's
trophy winning ways, as he had led Porto to a treble winning season in 2011 with Portuguese
League, Cup and Europa League triumphs.

Tony Cascarino has been speaking to SkySports News today and has waded in with his opinion on
Chelsea and believes we have serious problems. Have a read of his opinion and see if you agree:
"There are serious, serious problems at Chelsea Football Club, Not only are they not
looking like retaining their Premier League title, they are looking like a team that has no chance
of making the Champions Leagues spots.

Brace yourselves, everybody, because it's FA Cup fourth-round weekend in England (from here on out
known as the tremendous thirty-two). The FA Cup is the most exciting tournament in the country, and
there's always the chance for huge upsets in every round. We've got our share of big matches:
Everton host Chelsea at Goodison Park in what looks to be the choicest fixture of the round.
Chelsea travel to Goodison Park in the FA CUP's lunchtimes kick off and it's a game I am really
looking forward to. We've turned the corner, look like we have confidence back and are scoring
goals again and I expect Chelsea to kick on from our fantastic result at Bolton on Monday.
However, Everton away is always a hard game as they give everything for each other, the manager and
their fans and will see the FA CUP as a welcome distraction.
This morning there is continued speculation that surrounds the possible transfer of Fernando Torres
coming to Chelsea but it seems as though this one has taken another further twist. The general
consensus of opinion is that Torres will be leaving Liverpool at some stage. Now whether this is by
tomorrow evening's deadline or in the Summer is another thing.
A poem to round up the January Transfer window...
A strange one, I have got to say. With Fernando and Carroll the shocks of the day. Blackpool did
well to get Beattie and Reid, and kept Charlie Adam away from the team that lead...
Steven Ireland (Newcastle), Eidur Gudjohnsen (Fulham), and Daniel Sturridge (Bolton) go out on
loan, they all took the car, no helicopter was flown.
The Stadium of Light awaits the Blues shortly, and the starting eleven has a few surprises in
it...
Torres is on the bench. Anelka is up front with Mata and Sturridge, which I am actually rather
excited about seeing. Meireles also gets a start. Big Pete is back. Mikel not included supposedly
because he's had to do a lot of travelling and didn't seem to return to training until
yesterday.
It's time for revenge. Last time we met Sunderland, they embarrassingly thumped us 3-0 at our
own ground as our minor slump took a turn for complete disaster.
Our new boys, Torres and Luiz, will not feature in tonight's match. Torres instead took in a
training session at Cobham today, preparing to score a few goals this weekend!
The other major signing on transfer deadline day was David Luiz from Benfica. A 23 year old
Brazilian defender that can play anywhere across the back four. Of course Mr Torres has taken the
majority of the headlines this week, but for me just as an important signing for us right now was
the capture of Luiz.
How Torres fares against his former employers in the Chelsea v Liverpool clash at Stamford
Bridge today is a small part of a new chapter for both Premier League clubs. Liverpool, with Suarez
and Carroll in their ranks and Kenny Dalglish leading them, claim to have 'moved on from Torres'.
Chelsea, with Torres and Luiz in their squad and an expectation to spend more in the summer, feel
that Torres is just the starting point to their renewed drive for success.

AS Roma has accepted the resignation of manager Claudio Ranieri following a string of poor
results, culminating with a 4-3 loss to Genoa over the weekend after the club held a three-goal
lead. It was the fourth-consecutive defeat for the Serie A side, who currently sits in eighth place
after being tipped as a title contender at the beginning of the season.
A man in a difficult position, Carlo Ancelotti
Carlo Ancelotti was a made man. He sat at the top of the Premier League having seen his side score
more than 100 goals in a season – the first time since the great Spurs side of the 60's –, a
£9 million contract in the bag, and the promise of a serious assault on the Champions League in
the 2010/11 season.
"Abbiamo affrontato una squadra più forte di noi", queste le parole del capitano del Copenaghen,
William Kvist, al termine della sfida persa, tra le mura amiche, con il risultato di 0 a 2, contro
il Chelsea nell'andata degli ottavi di finale della Champions League. Ai danesi non è bastato
l'orgoglio e la determinazione per poter [.
Rumours were rife once again over the weekend that Roman Abramovich will continue his revamp of the
Chelsea squad this summer which a reported £100m kitty available to spend.
With continued speculation about Ancelotti, it seems that Roman, no matter who is in charge, will
make bids for Sergio Aguero, Wesley Sneijder and Jack Rodwell.
David Luiz scored the opener against Manchester City
Unless you hit the ground running, life can be very difficult as a new signing. At Chelsea we saw
two Brazilians join, Ramires in the summer and David Luiz in January, and they've both had very
different stories with the Blues so far. But recently they both proved very useful to an
underachieving Carlo Ancelotti when they both scored to defeat Manchester City.

It's seems that Mikel isn't happy these days at Chelsea after losing his place in the Chelsea side.
For much of last season Mikel was a starter and got used to being an important part of the side
that won the double. This season with the emergence of Ramires, It seems that Mikel has lost his
place and isn't happy.
As I was at work, and leaving late, I recorded one match. I didn't know which one in fact, but I
made sure I heard no results, and quickly put on the match as I came home.Chelsea-Manchester United
was a bore! Manchester United won 0-1 on a Wayne Rooney goal, and will probably make it to the
semifinal, but the most notable thing about the match was how lousy Chelsea played, and Ancelotti's

We lost, we looked pretty rubbish as is customary these days, and so the media and football fans
will be speculating about the gaffer's future. Yet another season passes without Roman getting his
paws on the Champions League trophy but will he immediately act on this loss and get rid of the
eyebrow?
Manchester United in semifinale, Chelsea fuori dai giochi.
As I sit here in departures waiting for my flight home back to London the result on Tuesday night
still weighs heavily on my mind. I hate the fact that I keep thinking "If only" but it's been the
same story in the Champions League for two seasons now! The fact that Schalke are waiting in the
semi-final doesn't help either!
"But Ancelotti is a cool dude, has been around the block a few times, has massive
experience."
I was looking through all the latest Chelsea news and rumours and noticed this one in The Telegraph
this morning. The focus of the interview is of Harry Redknapp's comments that he would need just
two of three high quality additions to his Spurs side that he believes, would see his side
challenging for the title.
It's almost silly season again, but Pete South has a plausible theory that
fits in with the 'Ancelotti to Roma' rumours that are circulating...
England manager Fabio Capello could find himself with his general manager Franco Baldini when
England play against Switzerland on June 4th after speculation grew the Italian is set to join
Roma.
