U.S. head coach Pia Sundhage has named the 18 players that will suit up against New Zealand
tomorrow at 3 p.m. CT at FC Dallas Stadium. The game is expected to be a sell-out in the
20,500-seat venue and the U.S. players are looking forward to a fantastic Texas reception.
U.S. Roster vs. New Zealand

Lauren Cheney gets a step on Amy Lepeilbet, but Hope Solo stands between her and the
goalAfter a brief week-long break since winning the 2012 Olympic Women's Qualifying Tournament in
Canada, the U.S. team has re-grouped in Frisco, Texas for a five days of training before facing New
Zealand on Saturday, Feb.
Now that The USWNT team has qualified for the Summer Olympics after a superb tournament in
Canada, Head Coach Pia Sundhage can now turn her focus onto her squads first friendly match of the
new year against New Zealand. The match will be played at FC Dallas Stadium in Frisco, Texas,
marking the eighth time the USWNT will play in the Lone Star State.

Fresh off a successful Olympic qualifying campaign, U.S. women's national team head coach Pia
Sundhage has called up 28 players for its upcoming friendly against New Zealand.
Nineteen of the 20 players on the Olympic qualifying roster were summoned by Sundhage for the
Americans' first game on home soil this year, including Alex Morgan, Hope Solo and Abby
Wambach.
While MLS has in the last few years reached a level of stability that will hopefully give us a
break from our perennial worrying about "the future of the game", the women's pro game is still
struggling for survival in this country. The Women's National Team is currently preparing for the
Olympic Qualifying Tournament this month and the roster is officially listed as:
GOALKEEPERS (2): Nicole Barnhart (out of contract), Hope Solo (out of
contract)
DEFENDERS (7): Rachel Buehler (Atlanta Beat), Ali Krieger (FFC Frankfurt), Amy LePeilbet
(Atlanta Beat), Heather Mitts (out of contract), Kelley O'Hara (Atlanta Beat), Christie
Rampone (out of contract), Becky Sauerbrunn (Sky Blue FC)
MIDFIELDERS (7): Shannon Boxx (out of contract), Tobin Heath (out of contract),
Lori Lindsey (Western New York Flash), Carli Lloyd (Atlanta Beat), Heather O'Reilly (Boston
Breakers), Megan Rapinoe (out of contract), Amy Rodriguez (out of contract)
FORWARDS (4): Lauren Cheney (out of contract), Sydney Leroux (Atlanta beat), Alex Morgan
(Western New York Flash), Abby Wambach (out of contract)
That's 10 players out of 20 who don't currently have a club team, which is remarkable for a
country that has dominated the sport internationally for decades.

The CONCACAF Olympic Women's qualifying tournament takes place later this month, and we now know
who will be representing the U.S. women's national team in it.
Head coach Pia Sundhage has named a 20-player squad for the eight-team tournament in Vancouver,
B.
The Boston Breakers have signed veteran U.S. National Team midfielder Heather O'Reilly, the club
announced today. Terms of deal were not realesed.
O'Reilly, 26, is a three year WPS verteran having last played with Sky Blue FC. She usually
features on the flank and has contributed four goals and 11 assists in her domestic career.
Breakers' midfielders Meghan Klingenberg and Keelin Winters were among 31 players called into
U.S. Women's National Team camp by head coach Pia Sundhage on Wednesday. The camp will run from
Dec. 3-20, and will take place at the Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif.
Klingenberg started in 10 games for the Breakers in 2011 after the team acquired her from the
now-defunct magicJack squad on June 1.
After a two-week training camp that featured 30 players, U.S. WNT head coach Pia Sundhage has named
the 18 players that will suit up against Sweden on Sat., Nov. 19 at the University of Phoenix
Stadium. Kickoff is 7 p.m. and fans can watch live via a webstream on ussoccer.com and also follow
along on ussoccer.
The U.S. WNT has arrived in Arizona and had its first training on Monday evening. It was a short
practice as the players were just off planes and as night fell in the chilly desert of Scottsdale,
the U.S. team took its first (sort of) offical step towards the 2012 London Olympics.
The squad looked refershed and sharp despite the long break with the World Cup in the rearview and
everyone refocused on Olympic qualifying in January.
If you watched Hope Solo on "Dancing with the Stars" last night and you weren't alone (and if you
didn't ABC.com is streaming all of last night's episode). Last night her teammates tuned into the
show from the hotel up in Portland. ussoccer.com followed Amy LePeilbet, Rachel Buehler and Carli
Lloyd during the high drama of DWTS:
And make sure you tune in tonight to see who is the first to leave this season of Dancing with the
Stars.
Amy LePeilbet lets a shot fly during trainingThe U.S. WNT players have had different lengths of breaks (many depending on when their WPS seasons
ended) and some players have been busier off the field than others, but to a player, all said it
was good to get back on the practice field together again.
Today US Soccer announced the roster for the women's team when they visit KC to take on Canada on
September 17th at LIVESTRONG Sporting Park. The roster contains all 21 players from the USA's run
to the World Cup final this year in Germany. It'll be a nice doubleheader for those wanting to go
out on that Saturday as following the US game they'll be showing the Sporting KC vs Real Salt Lake
game.

Got a little curmudgeony this morning apologies.
Lloyd always does the dirty work in the US midfield...
The disposition was due in part to the suggestion that Carli Lloyd hasn't upheld her part of the
bargain in central midfield for the US given Lauren Cheney's move their in yesterday's game against
France.
The United States Women's National Team punched their ticket to the World Cup final with a 3-1
victory over France in Moenchengladbach today.
Although they were outplayed at times, the U.S managed to defend calmly and keep their shape
against the French, clinching their fifth appearance in a Women's World Cup final, which will be
played on Sunday against Japan.
Lauren Cheney: Her stunning goal and set piece assist lifted the USA over France
First, kudos have to go to the unsung US defense that battled a spectacular French side to no
more damage than Sonia Bompastor's equalizer. Take a bow Christine Rampone, Amy LePeilbet, Ali
Krieger, and especially Becky Sauerbrunn whose assured performance belied this being her World Cup
debut.

PRE-GAME NOTES:
- Heather O'Reilly is back in the lineup for the USA, meaning they start the game the same way as
the opening match against North Korea.
The USWNT could have won their group with a tie or win vs. Sweden. This would have set up a
Quarterfinal showdown with Australia. Instead, the Americans struggled on the back line much like
the Men did vs. Mexico in the Gold Cup final. While it wasn't quite as bad a showing as the US men
had, the women suffered their second loss in 2011 to a very good Swedish side.

re-think the lineup, the tactics, the style, the philosophy, the youth system, the type of athletes

Huge disappointment for the USA Women at the World Cup today as they lost 2-1 to Sweden and with
now play Brazil in the quarter-finals. Today's defeat was the first time the USA has ever lost in
the group stages at the World Cup.
The match started with a high tempo and the standard rarely dropped throughout the 90
minutes.

Emotional day today for USWNT, Amy LePeilbet, and myself. In sport there are always winners
and losers. Today, Sweden the winners and USA the losers. In life there is always death. Today
marks a death in the history of US Women's soccer.

Abby Wambach scored her first goal in this World Cup but it was not enough to stop Sweden whose
rampaging Lotta Schelin subjected the US defense to all kinds of pressure. Amy LePeilbet had a
horror show lucky to escape with just a yellow after she brought down Schelin in the box.
Lauren Cheney and Megan Rapinoe celebrate Rapinoe's 50th minute goalThere was a tremendous atmosphere inside Rhein-Neckar-Arena tonight, the likes of which have
probably never been seen before for the U.S. WNT match on foreign soil. The sold-out crowd of more
than 25,000 was decidely pro-American, bolstered by a large presence from the U.

- The USA plays its second consecutive game at the 2011 FIFA Women's World Cup in all white
uniforms.
The USA had to wait till the second half to get on the scoreboard and it all began deep in
midfield when Carli Lloyd picked out Abby Wambach on the left with a long diagonal pass. The
striker cut in winger like manner before lofting a cross towards the far post as Amy Rodriguez and
Lauren Cheney waited in the box.

Lauren Cheney paid back the boss lady for her surprise start....
