Kids day at the Amsterdam Arena
After a KNVB cup match between Ajax and AZ Alkmaar was suspended because a fan ran on to the
pitch and attacked AZ's keeper, Ajax were able to replay the match, but with one caveat: only kids
(and a few supervisors) would be allowed into the Amsterdam Arena.
Jozy Altidore and AZ return from the winter break with the first of two straight games against
Ajax, with a trip to the final eight of the Dutch Cup on the line when the teams meet in Amsterdam
on Thursday.
The Ajax Experience x Sid Lee Architecture
Aside from my unwillingness to experience an angry pre-match speech from Frank de Boer, the new
Ajax Experience museum is one of the freshest things I've seen.
The city is completely related to its club: Amsterdam is Ajax, Ajax is Amsterdam.
We had a number of dramas in sports this year but none has affected us Dutchies more than the
tremendous Greek Tragi-comedy being played out in Amsterdam. One of the most classic and normally
classy football clubs has lowered itself so terribly one can only look on in shame or [read

Jozy Altidore and AZ Alkmaar will play their final game before the month-long winter break on
Wednesday evening when they travel to Amsterdam to face Ajax in the Dutch Cup.
What are the odds Darren Bent has a new club next season? Derek McGovern's Bets of the
Day
Rumour has it Darren Bent could be heading out of Aston Villa in January. On Sunday, he
literally put himself in the shop window. There's only one place I've ever gone window shopping and
that was in Amsterdam – it cost me £1,000!
For seven of the MLS-based players, arriving into camp on time required a Herculean effort that
began with an early morning wake-up call in Amsterdam and ended 21 hours later in Sarasota. As
you'll see, there's no easy way to get from Point A to Point B. The merry band of travelers
included David Bingham, Will Bruin, Dilly Duka, Zac MacMath, Jack McInerney, Amobi Okugo, Kofi
Sarkodie and Zarek Valentin, who were with a select MLS squad playing in Holland.
Two French offsides, two Amsterdam onsides... Sad....
Last Wednesday was a black day in Ajax' history. Two onside goals were disallowed, resulting in
a home loss against Madrid, which could have at least ended in a draw. And as losing wasn't even
that big of a problem, it was Zagreb that [read more]
I've wrestled back and forth for hours on how to address last night's simultaneous Champions League
incidents in Amsterdam and Zagreb, obviously because of the team short-strawed with the outcomes. I
have decided that it cannot be avoided. I suppose that I will just have to speak as objectively as
my reputation allows.
Despite it being a dead rubber for Rosenborg, and Ajax having the ability to win the group, it
was the Norwegian side who took all three points with a 2-0 victory in Amsterdam tonight, leaving
our own Young Lions at the top of the pile.
This means that we'll have the advantage of playing the single-legged quarter final at Villa
Park, more than likely against Marseille.

AMSTERDAM - The summer transfer window may have slammed shut on Wednesday, but questions about
market action around American Exports still remain the day after. Let's try to answer them.
5. Which American Export had the roughest summer?
The window certainly did not play out well for Schalke's Jermaine Jones, who early in the summer
looked like he was heading straight back to loan employers Blackburn one way or another.
Wax figures. They never do look like the real people, but rarely does that stop Madame Tussauds
from giving sculpture another go.
The latest famous floating heads to enter the the Amsterdam division of the world's most well

The USA traveled to Amsterdam in March of 2010, a few months before the Netherlands made the
final of the 2010 FIFA World Cup.The Netherlands are No. 1 according to the latest FIFA rankings, becoming only the seventh nation
in history to reach the top of the FIFA table.
Highlights from the NextGen Series will more than likely be a little thin on the ground and will
rely heavily on the participating clubs' own media departments. Fortunately, Ajax TV have done a
good job of putting together this video from our 2-0 loss in Amsterdam in the opening game last
week.
Of course, there might be a little bias in the edit, but this seems a fair reflection of the
game from as much as I could gather.
AMSTERDAM It was a heavy Sunday card for Americans in Europe, with Jozy
Altidore supplying the two-goal knockout punch in AZ Alkmaar's 4-0 rout of NEC
Nijmegen.
Making his first Eredivisie start for the Cheese Farmers, the US striker nodded home the winner

The US midfielder went the distance for the Scottish champs, switching over to perform solidly

AMSTERDAM - Jurgen Klinsmann's official unveiling as the new boss of the US national team on
Monday has many stateside fans ecstatic, hoping they'll eventually see a change on the field. They
won't be alone.
His new boss, USSF chief Sunil Gulati, will expect the former Mannschaft player and
manager to act as the logical next step between Bob Bradley's measured approach and the bold
Ajax-style program that youth technical director Claudio Reyna has made the new American soccer
textbook.
AMSTERDAM - Danish giants Brøndby have had a pair of overtures for Sporting Kansas City forward
Teal Bunbury soundly rejected, MLSsoccer.com has learned.
According to multiple sources, the 10-time SAS Liga champs initially requested the chance to
invite the US international to Denmark for a four-day trial and were rebuffed.
AMSTERDAM - Maurice Edu and Rangers stumbled out of the Champions League blocks
on Tuesday night, dropping a 1-0 decision to third-round qualifying guests Malmö FF in the tie
opener. Edu went 90 minutes in the loss.
The Swedish champs carried play for most of the night, grabbing the lead early through Daniel
Larsson - a player currently being linked with Rangers.

As you've probably heard, it's a very sad day here in the Netherlands. The video is from this
morning, here's the latest. Obviously, the thoughts at NSC and here in Amsterdam go out to those
involved in the tragedy, their families and the entire FC Twente kin.Casualties in Dutch stadium

It's a smooth move from Will's Woody Allen flick Top 5'er (What? No NSC reader love for Bananas?!?
Shocking!!). We go straight into the card for the third New York Kicking & Screening Festival,
which will take place in Manhattan from July 20-23.I had a blast at the inaugural Amsterdam version
- even if my foosball offense was short of form.
AMSTERDAM - There's something that's been eating at Djurgårdens IF defender Gale Agbossoumonde,
and it's not about a fight for playing time or his up-in-the-air club status. It's about that one
damned night in Guatemala.
Sure, the 19-year-old is trying to regain his Blue Stripes place before the end of the month,
when he finds out whether the 11-time Swedish champs will take up the purchase option on his
expiring six-month loan.
Nike's "Write the Future," a cinematic tour de force from Wieden + Kennedy Amsterdam and director

All of a sudden, Spurs are being linked with a choice of defensive midfielders and after the
Jack Rodwell rumours of earlier this week, stories are emerging of the club's interest in Ajax's
Dutch international Vurnon Anita.
Anita was a product of the famous Ajax academy and made his first full appearance for the club
while still only 16.
The All India Football Federation is currently in talks with Netherlands-based sports group,
Orange Sports Forum, to obtain technical assistance to overhaul India's football system. "The talks
with OSF were very fruitful and they would be coming India later this month to give us a
presentation," general secretary Kushal Das told The Telegraph on his return from Amsterdam.
Another of the great things about Ajax is the way the club and the team cycle everything back
through the kids of Amsterdam - the enthusiasm, the instruction, the style. It's much of how the
city keeps producing players like Sjaak Swart, Dennis Bergkamp, Patrick Kluivert, Urby Emanuelson
and Gregory van der Wiel.
Last Sunday D.C. United faced off against one of the biggest names in world football, AFC Ajax.
If you are unfamiliar with the Amsterdam giants, we ran a nice refresher on de
Godenzonen (Sons of the Gods in Dutch) on dcunited.com. The match ended up being very
entertaining, and I was lucky enough to do a quick interview with one of
the best midfielders of all-time and current Ajax manager, Frank de Boer.
Defensive mistakes leading to goals have been a constant so far this season for D.C. United and
this afternoon's 2-1 loss to Dutch power Ajax of Amsterdam was no different. Ajax scored early and
late to overcome their pesky MLS ...
[Photo: Ajax.nl]Much of the championship Ajax squad is flying over today for games with D.C. United
and the Portland Timbers, but there are a handful of explained absences.Mounir El Hamdaoui and
Rasmus Lindgren are remaining in Amsterdam to heal injuries, while Christian Eriksen and Nicolai
Boileson are sitting back to rest up before heading off to Denmark U-21 European Championship duty.
A whole host of clubs are being linked with Gregory van der Wiel after he featured in last summers
World Cup. The 23 year old has been the subject of speculation throughout the course of the season
but it appears that one of the clubs that had been believed to have taken a major interest, Bayern
Munich, have now decided against making a move to sign the player for a reported £9m.
Liverpool target Christian Eriksen is in no rush to leave Ajax as he settles to develop his career
with the Dutch club, despite reports linking him with a summer departure to Anfield.
The 19-year-old Danish midfielder has enjoyed a stellar campaign with the Amsterdam-based giants,
scoring four goals in 27 league games this season as he continues to earn regular first team status
under Frank de Boer.
