Perhaps you've been living in a nuclear fallout shelter for some reason, or have just avoided all
forms of mass media over the last two weeks or so and didn't know that the NFL season starts
tonight. Well, it does, and the super spectacular kickoff game features the defending Super Bowl
champions versus the Brett Favres.
Look who decided to start reporting on the saga that is Liverpool and it's ownership,
specifically Texas businessman Tom Hicks. Yes you guessed it, the Wall Street Journal. Anyway if
you really want to understand the true hatred that Liverpool have for their American owners just
read this article and any American sports fan will have some idea of how passionate these people
are.
So often in American sports you hear of super agents like Scott Boras and Drew Rosenhaus who are
more famous then some of their clients. In European football, agents play a big part, but you
rarely hear from them or see who they are. Over the past few years, probably the football agent
that has gotten the most publicity has been Mino Raiola.
Everyone cares about the US Open Cup right up to the moment when they're eliminated. At which
point it becomes a mere distraction no one cared about anyway. I was just being honest when I
hinted that I don't give a fuck before yesterday's semi-final with Chivas:
This for [Chivas USA] is big, it's an opportunity for them, you know, to,uh, to get
*shrug*, a trophy you know, a trophy, they don't have one.
Part 1 of our Q&A can be seen here. In the second part, Arlo talks about replacing
Seattle-announcing icon Kevin Calabro, discusses his early career and gives us a less on
cricket.
S@H: You were hired to essentially replace Kevin Calabro, who was a bit of a Seattle
announcing icon. Was that difficult or did you think the audience was just ready to have a soccer
guy?
Just kickin' it.Remember when ESPN used to try and get people to watch Major League Soccer games? I
mean, not just advertising the next MLS game during the current MLS game?
I mean back when ESPN ran ACTUAL commercials for their MLS broadcasts. I hear they used to even
show the scores along the "Bottom Line" and, correct me if I'm wrong, highlights on something
called SportsCenter would appear and then "vanish like a fart in the wind" (credit: "The Shawshank
Redemption").
I have to say that this video is really good to see. The Union Ultras are one
of the supporters clubs for Chivas USA of Major League Soccer and
they are road tripping it. The away fan is not a concept that really exists in American sports.
If you're new to the Premier League this season or new to EPL Talk, we're glad you found us and
even more excited you've been drawn into the Premier League, easily the most entertaining and
exciting domestic football league in the world.
Maybe you caught some recent matches during the 2010 World Cup and were intrigued by a certain
player or maybe you've got some friends or family interested in soccer.

The last time Real Salt Lake visited Seattle, they left with a title befitting their name: Kings
of MLS.
In North America, we are subjected to months of speculation, rumour, empty threats, philosophical
musings about antitrust legislation and competitive parity, only to have an agreement announced at
the last minute before the league start. In Italy, Massimo Oddo holds a press conference a couple
of weeks into the season and all hell breaks loose.
As long as I can remember, I've been a sports fan....both active and passive. Growing up outside
of Philadelphia I had plenty to follow even in those days: the Eagles, the Phillies, the A's, the
Warriors. Yeah, I know, I've been around a while. Those other teams, the Sixers and Flyers, didn't
come till later, but I followed them too.
With J Hutcherson -- Two things happened in other North American sports this week that are worth
Major League Soccer's attention. On Monday night, one of the highest rated broadcasts in cable
history ended with two National Football League coaches seemingly unable to manage the last minute
of a highly contested game.
The Sports Business Daily is reporting that according to an ESPN Poll, avid sports fans are
taking an interest in MLS in increasing numbers. In the target 18-34 demographic, interest in MLS
has increased more than any other American sports league. The percentage of avid fans and
"regular" fans have also increased.
