Landon Donovan capped his first month on-loan to Everton by being named the club's Player of the
Month for January. "It's a privilege to receive the recognition as it comes from the supporters,"
Donovan told the club's official site.
Landon Donovan will be wearing the number 9 shirt, Everton announced on Thursday. "I am aware of
the history of the number nine here in the Premier League and also the history of it at Everton,"
Donovan told the club's official site. I am proud that Everton would give it to me and I intend to
do the jersey proud as well.
In British soccer, the number nine takes on extra significance for an elite attacking player.
Historically a center forward, at certain clubs the number has a legacy all its own. Previous
Everton #9 Duncan Ferguson had a tattoo of the number and it's normally associated with the player
most representative of the club.
Landon Donovan made his impression felt with his first opportunity in the English Premier League.
Getting the start for Everton against Arsenal, he played 69 minutes, setup the first goal from a
corner kick in the 12th-minute, and looked like someone who had more than a week's training in bad
weather.
On-loan to Everton until March, LA Galaxy forward Landon Donovan will be able to play in the Europa
League. Everton manager David Moyes adjusted his eligible players list to include Donovan, making
him available for the home and away series against Sporting Lisbon and potentially the first-leg of
the Round of 16.
Freddy Adu scored for Aris in Wednesday's 3-0 Greek Cup win over Xanthi Skoda. Adu got the second
goal of the game in the 22nd-minute, with the win advancing Aris to the semifinals. He was subbed
out in the 66th-minute. Eddie Johnson came on in the 75th. In the Scottish Cup 5th Round, Maurice
Edu started and went the full-ninety for Rangers in their 1-0 win over St Mirren.
Donovan Talks Future On Tuesday, Landon Donovan told evertonTV he expects to be part of the club at
some point in the future. "I'm enjoying it and enjoying every day that I'm here. Every day that
goes by makes me think that I want to stay here, but we'll see what happens. I would definitely
imagine that I will be back here at some point in my life.
Salt Lake, LA, Toronto, and San Jose all grabbed multi-goal wins in Week 7, with Los Angeles,
Toronto, and San Jose scoring four goals. Elsewhere, after grabbing their first win of the season
on Wednesday, DC United lost a close game in Frisco. Salt Lake 3 - Philadelphia 0 The defending
champions took full advantage on Saturday, putting three goals past the Philadelphia Union at Rio
Tinto Stadium.
Anderlecht 1 - KAA Gent 0 Sacha Kljestan made his debut for Anderlecht in the Belgian Super Cup on
Sunday. Kljestan started for his new club, with Cheikhou Kouyate getting the game's only goal in
the 30th minute. This is the 9th time Anderlecht have won the Super Cup, with the league champion
facing the Belgian Cup winner.

Major League Soccer at the tender age of 14. A wunderkind in the truest sense. Someone who was not
only going to change the game in the United States, but the way the general American public would
look at soccer.
Another big win for Everton, who shocked Premier League leaders Chelsea 2-1 at Goodison Park.
Landon Donovan was a big part of the offense, setting up Luis Saha's 33rd-minute equalizer from a
corner kick and drawing a penalty that Saha failed to convert. Saha would net the winner in the
75th-minute. Tim Howard had two saves.
First Star: Coming off a midweek performance for the United States where he had the only goal in a
2-1 loss to Holland, Carlos Bocanegra was the difference for Stade Rennes. Bocanegra's 28th-minute
goal was the only one in the game with Rennes getting the 1-0 result over Monaco at Stade de la
Route-de-Lorient.
Both of Pachuca's Americans got time in their 3-0 win over Club America to open their Apertura
schedule. Jose Francisco Torres got the start and Herculez Gomez was a 58th minute substitute. Club
America put the ball in the back of their own net to open the scoring in the 13th minute. Edgar
Benitez converted a penalty to make it 2-0 in the 40th, and it was Benitez again in the 54th.
Clint Dempsey scored Fulham's second goal in their 3-2 loss to Stoke City at the Britannia Stadium,
playing the unlikely role of super sub. Dempsey came on in the 54th-minute for Bobby Zamora, who
had to be subbed off with an injury. That ended Fulham manager Roy Hodgson's plans to rest Dempsey,
needing help to turnaround Stokes' three first-half goals.
Everton got the home win in their Europa League series with Sporting Lisbon, taking a 2-1 lead into
the second-leg. Steven Plenaar scored in the 35th-minute and Sylvain Distin followed in the 49th.
Distin was red-carded in the 86th and Miguel Veloso converted the ensuing penalty for Sporting's
goal. Tim Howard and Landon Donovan played the full-ninety for Everton.
With a full schedule of games in Mexico's Primera Division on Wednesday, Jose Francisco Torres got
the start and went 84 minutes in Pachuca's 2-2 draw with Cruz Azul at Estadio Azul. Pachuca took
the lead in the 10th minute, but Cruz Azul equalized from the penalty spot in the 25th. Cruz Azul
took the lead when Christian Riveros scored in first-half stoppage time.
MLSSoccer.com is now reporting that Johnson's injury might not prevent him from participating in
the World Cup camp starting this weekend. Johnson's agent Richard Motzkin is quoted as saying: "He
doesn't think it's going to be that long. As planned, he'll join the US team shortly, and he won't
play any more matches for Aris.

were battling it out for promotion from the third tier of English Football (the old League Two).
Some ten years later, the small club from the banks of the Thames River has moved on to bigger and
better things.
With Rangers midfielder DaMarcus Beasley's contract expiring at the end of the season, he told the
Daily Record that he hopes to stay with Rangers. "I've not spoken to Rangers or anybody else about
what I'm going to do after the six months," Beasley said. "I'll see what goes on and what happens
in the last half of the season.
US National Team keeper Troy Perkins has left Valerenga according to information posted on the
club's official site. Perkins has been with the Tippeligaen club since 2007, and is their regular
starter. His return to Major League Soccer would be as a US international, meaning a club would
have to use an allocation to add him.
Eddie Johnson made his debut for Aris on Wednesday, coming on as a 79th-minute substitute in his
new club's 2-0 win over Asteras Tripolis in the Greek Cup. Freddy Adu remains unavailable while
waiting on his international clearance. In the French Cup, Carlos Bocanegra got the start as Rennes
took Lille into extra time with the score 1-1.
The big news from the weekend was Clint Dempsey's injury. Dempsey left Fulham's game with Blackburn
in the 62nd-minute. Fulham would eventually lose 2-0. Dempsey, Fulham, and the United States
National Team are waiting the results of a scan to determine the extent of his injured knee. "It
looks he has suffered cruciate knee ligament damage which if he has keeps him out of action for a
while," Fulham manager Roy Hodgson said.
Late Tuesday, Fulham announced the extent of the ligament injury suffered by US National Team
player Clint Dempsey: During the Blackburn Rovers fixture on Sunday 17 January, Clint Dempsey
sustained moderate damage to a ligament in his right knee. Following the results of a scan, early
indications are positive in that no operation is required.
Amid speculation that he could be moving clubs, Carlos Bocanegra got the start for Stade Rennes on
Tuesday, going the full-ninety in their 0-0 draw with St Etienne at the Stade Geoffroy-Guichard.
Rennes are currently in ninth place in France's Ligue 1. Scottish Cup, and Maurice Edu came on in
overtime for Rangers, 2-0 winners over Hamilton Academical.
US National Team midfielder Ricardo Clark is officially a member of the Bundesliga's Eintract
Frankfurt. His deal runs through the end of the current season with the possibility of an
extension. Clark left the Houston Dynamo, where he was out of contract.
Marcus Hahnemann needed one save to split the points with Liverpool. Both teams ended with a single
shot on goal. Liverpool had the edge on shots, eight to six, and dominated seven to nothing on
corners, but it wasn't enough to get a goal. "We got a 0-0 draw against Liverpool and I don't think
Marcus has had a save to make," Wolves manager Mick McCarthy said.
Jozy Altidore started for Hull City, who held on for a 1-1 tie at home against Chelsea. Steven
Mouyokolo got Hull's goal in the 30th and Didier Drogba equalized in the 42nd. Atidore was subbed
off in the 86th-minute for Kevin Kilbane. "We went 1-0 up and I was disappointed with the goal we
conceded," Hull manager Phil Brown said.
Two Wednesday games for clubs with their Americans recovering from injury. In the Scottish League
Cup, Rangers won their semifinal 2-0 against St Johnstone. Steve Davis scored in the 26th and Lee
McCulloch followed in the 37th. "We are in another cup final and it's one we will look forward to.
They are always special occassions to play in," Davis told the club's official site.
Stuart Holden got his first minutes for Bolton Wanderers on Wednesday, getting the start in their
FA Cup 5th round replay against Spurs. Unfortunately for Holden and Bolton, they lost 4-0. Two of
Tottenham's goals were own goals, capping a tough night for Bolton where they produced enough
offense to expect a goal of their own.
Wet conditions at Tampa's Raymond James Stadium did the United States National Team no favors on
Wednesday night against El Salvador. In a game where the US dominated position and chances, they
couldn't get their shots to fall. El Salvador made things worse, with Rudis Corrales scoring in the
59th-minute.
A tough night for Everton in the Europa League, with Tim Howard and Landon Donovan getting the
start and hoping to add to their 2-1 first-leg lead. Instead, it was all Sporting Lisbon, winning
3-0 at home and advancing 4-2 on aggregate. Miguel Veloso opened the scoring in the 64th, with
Pedro Mendes following in the 77th and Matias Fernandez finishing off the score line in stoppage
time.
First Star: Maurice Edu got the stoppage time winner for Rangers, 1-0 over Celtic. In case you
didn't catch that, Maurice Edu got the only goal in an Old Firm Derby. In case it's still at issue,
that's the kind of thing that makes a player a folk hero on the blue side of Glasgow. Celtic were
playing a man down from the 66th minute when Scott Brown was sent off.
Stuart Holden was able to walk off the field in Amsterdam yesterday with the help of a trainer, but
it turns out his injury was more than just a bruised shin. X-rays confirmed Holden fractured his
right fibula after being tackled by Nigel de Jong 30 minutes into yesterday's Holland – United
States friendly.
With Landon Donovan's final game on loan to Everton away to Birmingham City, he spoke to evertonTV
about what scoring in front of the home crowd on Sunday meant to him. "It has been fantastic and I
could never have expected when I got here that it would turn out like this," he said. "The fans
want you to play as hard as you can when you are out there.
Clint Dempsey can add another goal to his highlight reel. Coming on in the 71st minute with Fulham
already even on aggregate with Juventus at 4-4, he sent a floating ball in from distance that found
the upper corner in the 82nd. Fulham won 3-1 on the night and 5-4 on aggregate, advancing to the
next round of the Europea League.
First Star: Maurice Edu takes the honor on behalf of Rangers, your new Scottish Cup winners after
beating St Mirren 1-0 at Hampden Park. Edu came on as a second-half substitute in a game that
demonstrated all we need to know about this season's squad. Going a man down to St Mirren in the
53rd and losing another player to a red card in the 71st, Rangers found the winner when Kenny
Miller scored in.
With Rangers coasting toward the Scottish Premier League title, they got a surprise on Tuesday
night at McDiarmid Park losing 4-1 to St Johnstone. Rangers were already down two goals when Sasa
Papac scored to make it 2-1. St Johnstone goals in the 36th and 79th sealed the surprise win for
the home side.
Chris Rolfe scored his first goal for Aalborg on Wednesday, leading them to a 1-0 win over Odense
BK. Rolfe started and went 86 minutes. Aalborg went a man down in stoppage time when Johan
Absalonsen was sent off. Also in the SAS-Ligaen, Benny Feilhaber went the full ninety for Aarhus in
their 1-0 loss to Midtjylland at SAS Arena.
Alejandro Bedoya was the difference in Orebro SK's 1-0 win over Brommapojkarna at the Grimsta IP in
Stockholm on Thursday. Bedoya's goal came in the 40th minute. Bedoya subbed out in the 83rd. Orebro
are 8th in the Allsvenskanliga after six games played.
In the Premier League, Aston Villa beat Hull City 2-1 at the Kingston Communications Stadium on
Wednesday. Gabriel Agbonlahor scored for Villa in the 13th and James Milner followed from the
penalty spot in the 76th minute. Brad Friedel needed five saves for the shutout. Jozy Altidore
subbed on for Hull in the 55th minute.
