Soccer America reports that Francisco Navas Cobo became the latest player to be promoted from an
MLS academy team to its first team when the 18-year-old midfielder signed with the Houston Dynamo.
The story of this "homegrown" signing began last summer when Navas Cobo left Colombia, where he was
raised, and returned to Houston, where he was born.
Clint Dempsey is set to join the U.S. men's national team next week, but before he makes the
trip West, he will be taking on West Ham today in a clash of London clubs.
In other Premier League action involving Americans, Tim Howard will look to help Everton climb
out of the Premier League basement with a win against Birmingham, while Marcus Hahnemann and Wolves
will take on Wigan.
Escobar, 22, joins the Wizards from Colombian power Deportivo Cali. Before joining Cali in 2009,
Escobar played for rival team Deportivo Quindio in the Colombian first division for three and a
half years. Escobar, a central defender, was part of the famed Boca Juniors academy and the America
de Cali academy.
