After 11 weeks of competition and more than 130 matches so far, the mind-blowing
tournament that is Copa Libertadores boils down to the final three weeks of group-stage matches
before the original 32-team field is slashed to 16 for the next round.
Next up on our countdown of World Club Ranking seasons in 1986. The 1985-86 season is known, in
part, as the first season of the English Premier League's banishment from European football, which
severely hurt them in the rankings eventually, though English clubs still managed to hold their own
in 1986.
If waiting for the weekend to catch quality soccer is just something you can't do, this is a
good week for you.
No, the UEFA Champions League isn't in action this week, but a slew of mid-week games in Europe
make for a strong schedule of games to choose from.
A pair of high-powered EPL tilts headline the action, with FA Cup finalists Everton and Chelsea
clashing on Wednesday, while Liverpool and Arsenal do battle today.
We're a little late this week with the television schedule, but we've been a little under the
weather here at WCR, but hopefully we're not too late.
Once again, following an exciting midweek of action, there is not a lot going on in club football
this weekend. The two major highlights of the weekend football world, at least on American
television, are the Gold Cup quarterfinals and exhibition action featuring European clubs taking on
North American, hmm, competition.
This installment of the Annual Rankings brings us to 1987. In the final rankings for 1987, a
European club returns to the top of the rankings, though it was not the European Cup champion. That
title belonged to the runners up in the Portuguese Liga, Porto, who defeated Bayern Munich 2-1 in
the finals in Vienna by scoring two late goals to overcome a 0-1 halftime deficit.
A Snapshot of America de Cali's New Licensed Collection
This article is something I found on www.arteysportweb.com and thought it was worth
translating. Only in South America.
This article should have been about the presentation of the new apparel range by a football club.

As we enter May we are winding down the number of weekends full of quality league soccer action.
This weekend isn't skimping on the great games and today has a loaded slate of games to get you
through the day.
With 'El Clasico', between Real Madrid and Barcelona, looming, the day has been kicked off by
the English clubs, including Clint Dempsey's Fulham, which takes on Chelsea in an all-London
affair.
Once again, the dearth of football action on television is pretty deep this weekend, but there are
a few pockets of action worth watching. In North America, the final leg of the group stage of the
Gold Cup takes place Friday through Sunday, primarily on Spanish-language networks. In South
America, Defensor Sporting and Nacional continue their seemingly never-ending battle for the
championship of Uruguay on Sunday.
Columbia continues to be a big market for Major League Soccer. SBI is reporting the league has
signed three new players, all from Columbia and all defenders today.
America De Cali central defender Edward Zea, Deportivo Cali central defender Pablo Escobar and
Deportes Quindio central defender Hanyer Mosquera have been signed by MLS and have already had
discovery claims placed on them by various MLS teams.
In the Copa Libertadores, Sao Paulo was just getting a draw at home against the reserve side of
America de Cali for the last round of the group stage. This is when Dagoberto used an unusual part
of his body to score the goal that gave the locals the victory.

Colombian striker Antony de Ávila (aka El Pitufo or The Smurf, as he's 5′3″ small) is coming
out of retirement. Nothing so unusual about that... except that de Ávila retired a full 10 years
ago at the already advanced age (for a footballer) of 36. A decade later, the 46 year old El Pitufo
is making [.
I've captured a few random thoughts that have been bouncing around my head during one of my
multi-hour soccer watching blocks in the last couple days.
Perhaps I need to write a letter to Fox Soccer Channel. Those unnaturally frequent Enzyte
"natural male enhancement" ads I've been subject to on FSC that feature a newly happy (and
apparently newly 'impressive') guy named Bob have me on edge.
Major League Soccer has enjoyed some impressive success in recent years with the signings of
quality Colombian defenders, and the league will be looking to strike gold yet again with the
acquisition of three more defenders from the South American nation.
America De Cali central defender Edward Zea, Deportivo Cali central defender Pablo Escobar and
Deportes Quindio central defender Hanyer Mosquera have been signed by MLS and have already had
discovery claims placed on them by various MLS teams, including the Philadelphia Union, sources
with knowledge of the signings told SBI on Monday.
