The details of yesterday's terrible transfer attemopts is coming out, and if anything it's even
worse than we thought. Mike Ashley Newcastle's version of Scrooge? It seems that Newcastle almost
lost Danny Simpson to Aston Villa, and there have been runmors that Danny is not too happy at
Newcastle, and is questioning the club's ambitions.

Persib Bandung's search for a new continues. Last season saw them work their way through three
different coaches yet none were able to make any real impression on a team filled with stars yet
seemingly unable to turn potential into results on the field.
Daniel Roekito, who ended last season with Persib, has taken over the reigns at Persisam Samarinda
and till now Persib have hit a brick wall in their efforts to replace him.
It feels like the season's about to start again. We had the early season, that time when the
players weren't any good and the matches were dull. Now we have a sort of unspoken season two, in
which we have new and exciting players and midweek games against teams we've never seen before.
It's like a second life: "okay, sorry about the first few weeks.
Hope everybody is enjoying their day off today... well day off that is unless you work in retail
or as a blogger. In any case, the day is ripe for barbeques and hiking around the greater Portland
area so I hope some of you are able to escape from work and soak up some sun.
We have just under a week left until the next Timbers road game so you can expect the return of
our preview series this week as the team heads to Philadelphia.
Much of the attention for this weekend's match against Wolves will be the likely appearance in
the starting line up of Emmanuel Adebayor. The giant Togolese striker is set to make his debut
after missing out against Manchester City due to Premier League rules and he is looking forward to
making an impact.
Liverpool youngster Martin Kelly has revealed his delight with England manager Fabio Capello's
recent words of praise.
The defender, 21, broke into the first team with the Reds under Kenny Dalglish last season and he
has been reliable when called upon, though injuries have restricted his availability.
Indonesia v Bahrain 0-2
Well, that's that then. Indonesia's World Cup ambitions have been shelved for another four years
after this disappointing performance against a Bahrain side who were that yard quicker throughout
the game both with their feet and their brains. Coach Rijsbergen won't have been happy with the way
the goals were conceded.

The Los Angeles Galaxy were able to check off their first box in their "to-do" list for the 2011
MLS season on Saturday night with a 1-0 victory over the Colorado Rapids.
Landon Donovan scored in the 36th minute as Los Angeles was able to clinch the league's first
playoff berth.
Liverpool FC will be disappointed but not downhearted after their defeat at Stoke City.
The manner of the loss was a world apart from the miserable way in which they went down at the
Britannia Stadium last season.
Kenny Dalglish has got a gripe about the decisions of referee Mark Clattenburg.
Borussia Dortmund 1-1 Arsenal
For some reason, it had not dawned on me how tough our Champions League group would be until
last night. Maybe it was all the other stuff going on I simply hadn't thought much about it. Maybe
it was years of sailing through this part of the competition (though we made a meal of it last time
round).
I'm really looking forward to being back in Seattle this weekend. It's a massive game for D.C.
United and the team's postseason ambitions. It's also a homecoming of sorts for me, as I began my
sports career in Seattle, and there are many friends and family members I'm excited to catch up
with. While I'll be making the most of this trip by reminiscing with those people in the
George & Dragon pub, I'm most looking forward to the views (see below).
After last weekend's away defeat to Stoke, Liverpool go to White Hart Lane tomorrow hoping to get
some more points on the board. Is the game a 'must-win' for Kenny Dalglish's team, or can the club
get away with a draw? For me, if Liverpool have serious ambitions of finishing in the top 4 then the
team needs to come away from London with all 3 points.
In my whole entire stinking existence I have never seen Arsenal involved in a relegation scrap.
There is always a first for everything I suppose!
People say Arsenal will find it tough to get into the top four this season.
Well, at the moment, I'd be happy if we finish outside of the bottom four!
There are four ex-Spurs players in the Stoke City squad and while the Potters also have league
and European ambitions to worry about, we can expect to come up against some, or maybe all of them
this evening.
As Peter Crouch, Wilson Palacios and Jonathan Woodgate linked up with Matthew Etherington at the
Britannia, Spurs manager Harry Redknapp revealed that he is harbouring some regrets at letting
Woodgate go.
There was a full round of matches in all three divisions the Football Conference this week, and
it looks like being a very tight season in the Conference South. Today, there are just ten points
between the team at the top of the table and the team in fourteenth place, and there seems little
between the top three sides, with others lower down the table looking more than capable of joining
them.
Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has expressed his delight about returning to action for the club,
after describing his six-month injury lay-off as a "nightmare".
"It's been a nightmare for me," Gerrard lamented. "I'm not the best when I'm out injured and
watching games.
"It's been tough and the last six months have been a rollercoaster.
Liverpool face Wolves at Anfield on Saturday in what is surely a must-win game for the club. Having
already dropped points at home this season, another draw would arguably not be good enough for a
team with genuine ambitions of finishing in the top 4. How have Liverpool fared against Wolves in
the past?
After scoring two goals within eight days for Arsenal in both the Carling Cup and the UEFA
Champions League, 18-year old summer signing Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain wants to be a part of the
highly anticipated North London derby this weekend.
The youngster took only eight minutes to open the scoring against Olympiakos at the Emirates
last night and after becoming the youngster scorer in the competition's history, he is eyeing
Sunday's massive fixture against the Spurs at White Hart Lane.
Jordan Henderson laughs when he hears a comparison between himself and Steven Gerrard.
It is not that he finds the parallels between both players absurd - they are both two versatile
box-to-box midfielders – but Liverpool's highest-priced signing of the summer - at a reported
£20 million - has his own ambitions.
