Back when news of Landon Donovans's new Galaxy contract broke, I wrote that, contrary to the
popular opinion that he was giving up on his European ambitions, getting the deal he did was an

Fernando Torres will become the world's most expensive footballer if he leaves Liverpool in the
summer.
Manchester City and Chelsea have made Torres their number one target but would have to splash out
more than £140m in transfer fees and wages to land the Spanish superstar.
Not only has Torres' value eclipsed the £80m Real Madrid paid for Cristiano Ronaldo, he can
anticipate a salary offer of around £15m a year given the current inflated levels for the most
wanted players.
Perhaps I'm overstating things slightly to say that my new home town team, the Atlanta Beat, are
the WPS version of Real Madrid. After all, the Beat are so new they have yet to even hold a
practice. So, I'll agree I'm overstating things. Slightly.
From where I'm sitting the Beat appear to be about to take over the world.

Ryan Babel could still become a Birmingham player during the transfer window.
The player's agent, Winnie Haatrecht, has denied claims that Liverpool have rejected a £9million
offer from the Midlands club for Babel and suggests the Dutch international is open to a move away
from Anfield.

19.45 West Brom v Nottingham Forest, Championship, Sky Sports 1/HD1
A real test for Forest's increasingly credible promotion ambitions. West Brom's 1-0 victory at the
City Ground back in August was a rare defeat for Forest who are on a 16 match unbeaten run in the
League.
Rafa Benitez has reiterated his desire not to sell Ryan Babel during the transfer window – as
Liverpool's bid to land Maxi Rodriguez hit a slight stumbling block.
The Holland forward was the subject of £9m bid from Birmingham City this week that was hastily
rebuffed by Benitez, who first stated his intention to keep Babel after the 1-1 FA Cup draw at
Reading seven days ago.
Manchester United goalkeeper Tomasz Kuszczak is adamant that dropped points in recent weeks will
not affect his side's Premier League title ambitions.

By STEFAN BONDY - NEW YORK, NY (Jan 15, 2010) USSoccerPlayers -- Tobin Heath had many reasons to
play it safe, to restrain her flashy ambitions during such a precarious moment. First caps are
always nerve-racking. It would seem especially true for a 19-year-old playing an unfamiliar
position at left back.
The confidence and brashness that was felt heading into tomorrow's game has no doubt been checked a
little since the weekend - obviously because of contrasting results for ourselves and United, but
also I'm sure because derbies rarely illicit a feeling of over-confidence as kick-off
approaches.
There was much debate after the postponement as to whether the initial game being called off worked
in our favour.
Why did one of Sepp Blatter's key aides suddenly leave a top post at FIFA this week? Speculation
from journalists is rife. The true story, sadly, is hard to find.
FIFA's International Relations Director Jerome Champagne surprisingly departed from the world's
governing body this week, despite the fact that World Football Insider says Champagne had been
"believed to be positioning himself for a run for Blatter's job" next year.
It's no secret that some Middlesbrough fans are already calling for Gordon Strachan's head only
three months after the former Celtic Manager took charge at the Riverside. A lack of consistency
since his arrival has seen the side slip down the Championship standings to mid-table
mediocrity.

Assistant General Manager Mr Edwin Tan and Head Coach Aide Iskandar.
It's not very often clubs address issues pertaining their finances in their pre-season media
conference, but Sengkang Punggol's assistant general manager Mr Edwin Tan buckled that trend by
proclaimed the Dolphins hope to achieve the financial sustainability in "six months time".
It's been a good day for Bayern Munich and for Louis van Gaal in particular. His Bayern side
travelled to Bremen, with the chance to put an end to the slim title ambitions of one of their
rivals, and they did just that. In theory they did it with quite a bit of authority, but [...]
When Stuart Holden's contract with the Houston Dymano expired at the end of 2009, it seemed
unlikely that the 24-year-old would return to MLS in 2010. The news was confirmed this week, as a
two week trial with Bolton proved a success, as the Wanderers snatched him up today. And while it's
a good move for Holden, there's plenty of risk involved.

Galácticos (or superstars) is a Spanish
term used to describe expensive, world-famous football players, having either
positive or negative connotations. This term came into use to describe the policy pursued in the
first tenure of Florentino Pérez's presidency at Real Madrid,
where he purchased at least one galáctico in the summer of every year.
And we avoided it in record time. Forty points and beyond.
It must be the years of watching a team with hazardous levels of inconsistency, but in the
face of knocking up the required tally to keep us in the division for another year, I find myself
being quietly grateful. Humble ambitions, indeed, particularly in a season which offers so
much.
Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez has alluded to the possibility that the club will be unable to add
to the signing of Maxi Rodriguez during the current transfer window, but believes his squad can
still fulfil their ambitions.
The mid-season market ceases trading on Monday, and Liverpool - despite being linked with a
multitude of Europe's big names including Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, David Silva and Milan Jovanovic -
are yet to seal a second deal this month.
