No surprise in this news from the Globe and Mail.
It had to happen, the product was rotting on the shelf. TFC/MLSE bigwigs showed some spine and
ambition, at last. Where Toronto FC would be right now had they made this move last November will
always be the stuff of dreams.
I've been enjoying the stories coming out of Manchester United in the last couple of days. Right
from the start of the season we could sense that something was not right at Old Trafford and now
we're getting a good idea why.
First it was Fergie who came out with some very harsh comments about Rooney.
When FIFA voted to hold the 2022 World Cup in
Qatar, it was promoted as "bringing football to a new world and a new culture" as
well as bringing the World Cup to the "entire Middle East." And now, it seems that sentiment
might be taken quite literally by the game's governing bodies as the 2022 World Cup in Qatar may
very well change the way have ever held the tournament before.
Juventus have stepped up their interest in Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez, who will look to take
Fernando Torres and Javier Mascherano with him to Turin, according to Italian daily Corriere dello
Sport.
Roberto Mancini was spotted at last week's Europa League match between Fulham and Juventus and
although likely preparing for Manchester City's fixture at Craven Cottage, was subsequently linked
with the Juve job.
As Wayne Rooney prepared to take his penalty last night, there was a sinking feeling he was
going to miss. Despite already scoring against Rangers from the penalty spot since his revelations
he wanted to leave Manchester United for a club with more ambition, there was no doubt this game
was a lot bigger.
Published reports out of Europe and the United States today indicate that Freddy Adu is headed
to Aris Salonika FC, the leading club in Greece's second largest city, Thessaloniki. (Although
currently PAOK is performing better than Aris in the Greek Super League)
Once again, Adu has managed to find himself transferred to a well supported club with a history
of making European continental competitions.
Beleaguered Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez has admitted he may not make signings during the transfer
window.
The Reds have lost Fernando Torres, Steven Gerrard and Yossi Benayoun to injury, and are seventh in
the Premier League and out of all major cups.
But Benitez said: "We will see if we can do something more in this window.
Meet Claudia, an early front runner for our amazing Miss UKFF 2010 comp which kicked off last
week.
Will our gorgeous little 19 year old be jetting out to California for a life changing experience
with the UKFF team?
Claudia works in Manchester City Centre as part of a client experience team at Double Take
Studios, which she really enjoys, as she gets to show her passion for the modeling industry.
Some worrying news about Steven Taylor is being reported in today's Sunday Sun. Steven Taylor
questioning Newcastle's ambition? The news last week was that a new extended contract was being
drawn up for the Greenwich-born 24 year-old, but news today that Steven will certainly not be in
any rush to sign the deal.
It is almost a foregone conclusion at this point the Cesc Fabregas is staying at Arsenal this
season and he will make a move next year back to his boyhood club Barcelona. For weeks we have been
listening to comments made on both sides of the issue, but the primary source of controversy have
been the comments from current Barca and Spain players on the subject.
The summer transfer season ends and the excitement of the last day and a half sums up one of the
most active transfer windows that I can remember. The biggest movers were the usual suspects this
summer in Real Madrid (6 players in, 2 players out, and over €60 spent) and Manchester City (6
players in, 8 players out, and over €130 spent).
By Dominic Vieira, writing from Portugal
He speaks English, French, Italian and Spanish, carries an army of mobile phones, sleeps few
hours, possesses over 100 players worth over €500m, earns millions each year and is
Portuguese. Jorge Mendes is one of the world's ‘super agents' who accomplished
this recognition before reaching his 40th birthday.
Normally, I don't have enough time to read through the comments on other sites but the lack of
news/action in the last few days allowed me the opportunity to catch up. I came across a couple of
interesting comments on two different sites. At that time it was just like reading any other
comment so I don't remember which articles they were and what the exact words were.
On top of their busy schedule of meeting their own deadlines, a few select journalists have
taken time out to RoM their insight to the Wayne Rooney ordeal.
1. Who is responsible for this mess?
2. Do you think Rooney will now spend the rest of his career/most of his remaining years at
United?

Ollie's Photoshop skills = almost as bad as Liverpool's form this season
"Inter are working to sign Steven Gerrard [this summer], given that Liverpool are in
economic difficulty," an Inter source has told Corriere dello Sport.
As expected, the loan transfer of Benjani to Sunderland was confirmed today and it is all but
certain that his career with us is now over with his contract set to expire at the end of the
season.
It is a good move for Benjani as he remains in the Premier League and goes to a side where he will
likely see plenty of playing, something he would not be afforded (despite his recent stint as a
stand-in) with the return of Emmanuel Adebayor.
Former United States youth international Neven Subotic, now a member of the Serbian national
team, has been linked recently with a move from Borussia Dortmund to Manchester United.
Hans-Joachim Watzke, the Borussia Dortmund manager, has explained what it would require from
Manchester United to sign Neven Subotic, the young Serbian defender who has been linked with a move
to Old Trafford.
For many it will seem like lack of ambition, but the story of Brede Hangeland should provide some
food for thought. The 28-year old Norwegian was heavily linked with a move to Arsenal during last
January's ...
The FA Cup final is almost upon us and Portsmouth and Chelsea will soon be battling to win the
world's premier domestic cup competition. Along with the FA Cup sponsor E.ON, we think this is a
great time to salute some of football's unsung heroes, specifically goalkeepers. They may be stars
of tomorrow, or just players who have given a lot back to their community.
I'm late to the party, but I wanted to wait until the England squad seemed certain before jumping
the gun. Admittedly, it's a bit surprising to see Jamie Carragher's name back in an England
line-up. And Carra's return from the wilderness, accepting Capello's invitation after repeatedly
spurning McClaren, probably isn't good news for Liverpool, at least on the face of it.
The Arsenal defender Sol Campbell, who has just been released from his contract at Highbury, has
made a statement saying how "excited" he is with Neil Lennon's plans to make Celtic a force to be
reckoned with again. Lennon wants Celtic to not just dominate Scotland, but start winning more
games in the Champions League as [.
For 73 minutes it was a game that summed up the overall theme of World Cup 2010. Slow-paced,
sloppy, lacking ambition from either side despite the fact that Italy simply had to win to avoid
failure in the group stage for the first time in 36 years. For the final 17+ minutes it was
everything [...]
September 13th 2009: "It is true that there was a bid from a big English club,"
Silva said. "If it was only a question of money then I would have accepted the move."
May 10th 2010: "When you hear a club like Manchester United is interested in
you it is an honour," Silva said.
Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson has targeted Newcastle United centre-back Steven Taylor as the man
around which to rebuild the Red's defence.
According to the Sunday Mirror, the new Anfield boss will attempt to make Taylor his first signing
since taking over, with a £5 million bid believed to be in the offing.
KOP legend Phil Thompson has belted out a heartfelt message to Steven Gerrard: Winning a title
away from Liverpool means nothing. Gerrard has gone on holiday without officially committing his
future to his one and only club with new boss Roy Hodgson hopeful he will stay. But the test of
that optimism will come when either Real Madrid or Chelsea slam hard cash down on the Anfield
boardroom table.
UPDATE: According to Daniel Taylor at the Guardian, Manchester
City are starting to become frustrated with Wolfsburg and may give up
their pursuit of Edin Dzeko as they are unwilling to pay £45million for him.
July 12th, 2010: According to Mark Ogden at the Telegraph,
Wolfsburg striker Edin Dzeko, who has drawn interest from
Manchester City and Juventus, has expressed his desire to leave
the club.

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard is going nowhere, because he is "very
impressed" with new manager Roy Hodgson. Back off, Mourinho.
And by "very impressed", I mean he quite likes the signing of Joe Cole. It doesn't take much to
please Stevie G, does it one Chelsea reserv later and suddenly everything is coming up roses.
West Ham United midfielder Scott Parker is reportedly going to be offerred a new five year deal
worth £20 million. Despite attracting interest from the likes of Aston Villa and Tottenham, the
29-year old has conducted himself professionally the entire summer by focusing on his football at
Upton Park.
James Headed To Championship
England goalkeeper David James has secured a move to Championship side Bristol City on a free
transfer.
James, who started three of England's World Cup matches in South Africa, inked a one-year deal
with the option of an additional year after the 39-year-old successfully passed a physical on
Thursday.
"Your Tradition is No Match For My Ambition." Somebody get that on a T-shirt ASAFP. Oh wait, this
is a Nike ad. There probably is a T-shirt already.
Never one to bit his tongue and full of opinions when asked, Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho
has something to say about Manchester United and their bags of money.
Jose Mourinho has accepted Manchester City are "dominant in the market" after outbidding the
Spanish giants to sign Serbia full-back Aleksander Kolarov.
Jose Mourinho hasn't even gotten to the mid-way point of the La Liga season but has went on to
say that he would gladly take-over some of the top clubs in the Barclay's Premier League but
Liverpool not being one of them. Although no one is really jumping the again and expecting Mourinho
to leave Madrid just after one season, especially that he is still preparing for the season
ahead, it was interesting to hear Mourinho go on about the possibility of taking over some of the
best clubs in the Premier League
So which club's did Mourinho say he would be gladly take-over ?
