Last week, I was in Portugal for the NSCAA Algarve Cup Symposium. We were able to watch some amazing national team matches and training sessions, but we definitely took the time to explore Portugal as well.

One day, we took a 30-minute drive from base camp to Lagos. After viewing the beautiful rock formations jutting out from the turquoise-colored water, we returned to town to grab some lunch.

My blog was hacked tonight, and it seems I've gotten it stable for the time being. Tomorrow, assuming it's all still in order (fingers crossed), I plan to do a full reinstall of the latest versions of WordPress, Thesis and all my plugins. As you may know, the NSCAA is making a substantial effort to recognize and celebrate its diversity, and to be a truly inclusive organization. Marcia McDermott, the incoming President of the NSCAA (you can follow her on Twitter @RedStarsGM btw), has set diversity & inclusion as her primary agenda for 2010, and the support she's received from the CEO (Joe Cummings @nscaaCEO on Twitter) all the way down to the membership has been simply tremendous.

Thanks to @ethanhays I just watched Ze Frank's Nerdcore Comedy, and truthfully (minus the cheezy-looking graphics), I can't believe this was filmed in 2004. Every day, the WPS Director of Communications, Rob Penner (in the pic above with me), sends out the Daily Clips to the league office staff. Today's clips included a story called, Continued apathy by sports media toward women's sports a bigger problem than first meets the eye.

The article references a study from researchers at the University of Southern California and Purdue University titled, "Gender in Televised Sports: News and Highlight Shows 1989 to 2009″.

The Philadelphia Independence struck early when they traveled to Yurcak Field in Piscataway, NJ, on Saturday and never looked back. Five minutes after first kick, Amy Rodriguez made a run down the right and crossed to Danesha Adams, who struck a one-touch volley into the back of the net.

In the 17th minute Adams, making her first start of the season, returned the favor when she made a lovely through pass to Rodriguez, who promptly buried a shot past Sky Blue keeper Amanda Luckenbill.
