The U.S. Women's National Team's failure to produce live updates today for most of the Algarve Cup opening match against Iceland was disappointing. I'm writing this blog to share my personal game-day experience, commend those who "came to the rescue", suggest that U.S. Soccer start covering the U.

On Wednesday, April 28th, I held a conference call with all 6 female coaches in Women's Professional Soccer to talk about the development of women's soccer in America and around the world. On the call, we had:

Social media is an area that, with minimal financial investment, a bit of elbow grease and a touch of creative genius, just about any college coach can support his/her goals in a meaningful way. Amanda here Web Coordinator at the WPS league office. As you probably know by now, WPS has discontinued operations of the Los Angeles Sol, so I'm posting this to let you know the online plans for the Dispersal Draft and the future of the LA website and social media outlets.

From February 25th through March 4th, I'll be in Portugal for the NSCAA Algarve Cup Symposium. I'll be Tweeting live throughout the trip to http://www.twitter.com/nscaawomen, and I'll be blogging here at Soccer Science. Check back often for photos, videos (hopefully), reviews, recaps and information from the tournament.

As you may already know, the Algarve Cup is played across a very large area along the southern tip of Portugal. Considering this, when we lay out the upcoming day's schedule each evening, we have to consider who's playing when, where, and how long the drive is between towns. We want to catch as much as the action and see as many teams as we possibly can!

Today was one of the most amazing days I could have asked for in the Algarve. Photo Above I can't believe I was on the pitch with Tina Theune-Meyer, April Heinrichs and Pia Sundhage at the same time.

Last week, I was in Portugal for the NSCAA Algarve Cup Symposium. We were able to watch some amazing national team matches and training sessions, but we definitely took the time to explore Portugal as well.

One day, we took a 30-minute drive from base camp to Lagos. After viewing the beautiful rock formations jutting out from the turquoise-colored water, we returned to town to grab some lunch.

My blog was hacked tonight, and it seems I've gotten it stable for the time being. Tomorrow, assuming it's all still in order (fingers crossed), I plan to do a full reinstall of the latest versions of WordPress, Thesis and all my plugins. But in the meantime, I'm thinking this could be pretty widespread so I wanted to share some info in case anybody else has the same problem.

As you may know, the NSCAA is making a substantial effort to recognize and celebrate its diversity, and to be a truly inclusive organization. Marcia McDermott, the incoming President of the NSCAA (you can follow her on Twitter @RedStarsGM btw), has set diversity & inclusion as her primary agenda for 2010, and the support she's received from the CEO (Joe Cummings @nscaaCEO on Twitter) all the way down to the membership has been simply tremendous.

Since September, I know I've tried to fill the void that is the WPS off-season with Champions League, EPL matches, the MLS Championship or even National Team games but it's just not the same :-( And I'd venture to bet my fellow die-hard WPSers have been feeling the same way. So you guys may know this about me, but for those that don't, in a addition to being a total web geek, I'm also a soccer coach. And because of that, I get to work with the WPS coaches a lot here at the League office.

A college soccer teammate of mine, Renee Ho, is working really hard via Social Media to get her book, The Friendship Effect, published as part of the Pepsi Refresh Project. She sends me a Facebook reminder every day to vote for her, and because of this, Renee, you're my Social Media hero.

I'm just off the phone with Alex Kotler, founder of Football Partnerships a great network and resource for companies in the business of football. From interviews, articles, to job openings – it's all on the Football Partnerships website.

I've done one podcast before. Back in 2008, when I was working at the Chicago Red Stars, Peter Wilt invited me to crash one of his.

I prefer to think of it as a "telephone conversation with a friend" rather than a "podcast". Basically, Alex Kotler (rock-star founder of Football Partnerships) and I chatted for a good while about social media, what's hot, key players in the space, and some strategy mumbo jumbo.

We're one week into the WPS season, and It's been a super-busy at the league office, as you can imagine. I thought I'd take a moment to put a pen to paper and discuss what's been happening on the inside well from the web department at least. This post offers a brief overview of three content-driven initiatives at the WPS league office.

Megan Hueter, co-founder of Women Talk Sports, brought the soccer bloggers from her network together to talk about the state of women's soccer. I happen to be one of those lucky few, so Megan invited me to participate. Additional people on the call were:

Okay, I'm a game late to the party here, the opening match was this morning. But I figured I better jump on the bandwagon and put my predictions on the line... it just makes the tournament that much more fun!

Every day, the WPS Director of Communications, Rob Penner (in the pic above with me), sends out the Daily Clips to the league office staff. Today's clips included a story called, Continued apathy by sports media toward women's sports a bigger problem than first meets the eye.

The article references a study from researchers at the University of Southern California and Purdue University titled, "Gender in Televised Sports: News and Highlight Shows 1989 to 2009″.

The Philadelphia Independence struck early when they traveled to Yurcak Field in Piscataway, NJ, on Saturday and never looked back. Five minutes after first kick, Amy Rodriguez made a run down the right and crossed to Danesha Adams, who struck a one-touch volley into the back of the net.

In the 17th minute Adams, making her first start of the season, returned the favor when she made a lovely through pass to Rodriguez, who promptly buried a shot past Sky Blue keeper Amanda Luckenbill.

I was scheduled to host a social media workshop with the University of Utah Athletic Department on June 17, but my flight was abruptly rescheduled because of a big announcement that day: The Utes will be joining the Pac-10 in 2011! I started this post the next day and initially targeted it toward coaches in a similar situation, but really, this information is applicable to coaches everyplace.
