FC Porto have won their first leg semi-final over Amadora 2-0 today as Lucho continued his fine
form this season with the opening marker on a penalty kick and Raul Meireles scored the other for
Porto who will face Amadora in the second leg April 22/09 with the winner of this matchup moving on
to take on the winner of P.
FC Porto survived a surprising Amadora at home, after Farias gave the hosts a 1-0 lead early.
Amadora struck back with goals by R. Varela and Anselmo before the end of the first half but were
unable to add one more goal to go through to the Final. Amadora won the game 2-1 but lost on the
aggregate 3-2.
After a long saga of speculation and rumor, Freddy Adu finally has found a destination for a
season-long loan away from Benfica. For awhile, Odense BK of Denmark appeared to be close to
finalizing a deal that would have brought the 20 year old American into the SAS Liga, but the
negotiations stalled over Adu's salary.
Amadora is the last team to enter the Taca De Portugal semi-finals. Amadora will now take on FC
Porto on March 4, 2009 in a home and away series. Amadora earned their spot with a road victory
over Guimaraes 1-0 on a goal by S.Varela at the 83rd minute mark. The other Taca semi will feature
Pacos Ferreira vs Nacional.
Benfica and Sporting pull out narrow victories today to keep pace with league leader FC Porto.
Benfica pulled out a 2-1 victory over Amadora as Oscar Cardozo scored both goals on penalty kicks
while Amadora's Varela also scored on a penalty kick. Sporting got an early goal from Derlei and
hung on to defeat the free falling Leixoes 1-0.
Goals by strikers Helder Postiga and Liedson, sandwiching a stunning strike by Marcelo Goianira,
gave Sporting a 2-1 victory over Estrela da Amadora at the Alvalade Stadium tonight. The win was
the eighth in nine Liga Sagres games for the Lions.
Sporting continue their winning ways today against Amadora at Avalade Stadium. Helder Postiga
scored early for Sporting before Goianira tied the game just before the half. Liedson then gave
Sporting the lead for good and the three points in the Lions 2-1 victory.
Braga have gotten another reinforcenment for this upcoming season in Amadora's Ney. The 28 year old
Brazilian plays many positions and was primarily used in the left back position by Amadora last
season
