Tottenham have alerted the football world that the North London club may be on the prowl for a left-back this summer as Andre Villas-Boas recently indicated that current defender Benoit Assou-Ekotto does not appear to be in his long-term plans.
The 29-year-old has struggled this season both with injury and limited minutes with the excellent play from Kyle Naughton and Jan Vertonghen.
Is the pursuit of Luka Modric finally over? Reply hazy, try again later.
I initially loved the idea of adding the Croatian to our midfield during the close season. That
idea soured as the summer continued. Missing out on Modric at £40 or so million was proper
business for Chelsea.
31 January was a red letter day in the history of the not-so-historic transfer window. Now, some
seven months removed from a day which saw Chelsea secure Fernando Torres and David Luiz for a
combined fee in the region of £75 million and Liverpool plop down a cool £35m on Andy Carroll,
the footballing world is once again on the cusp of meltdown.
The reserves literally just wrapped a 1-1 draw with Blackburn at Stamford Bridge. Somewhat
unlucky, too. It was a solid performance from the guys, Mellis with the goal. Anyway.
At halftime, sporting director Michael Emenalo spoke to ChelseaTV. He offered some good insight
into what to expect from some of our high-profile youth players that are currently on the fringes
of the first team.
Not many kids want to play as a left-back, but they'll settle for the right-back position; we
simply all want to attack. This is why the search for a quality left-back is an everlasting all
night long headache, there aren't many. The shortage of this position has cultivated wingers into
full-backs and the transformations have been successful in the modern game, Patrice Evra and Fabio
Coentrao are prime examples.
Argentina knew that a win would put them in the driver's seat in CONMEBOL World Cup qualifying
for Brazil 2014, and they took care of business with a relatively easy win over Paraguay on
Friday.
Uruguay wasted a number of chances, but Alvaro Pereira's goal was enough to give Los Charruas a
1-0 win over Mexico and set up a mouth-watering quarterfinals match against Argentina.
Pereira gave Uruguay three points in the final game of Group C on Tuesday night when he netted
his second goal of the tournament in the 14th minute.

Alvaro Pereira's agent says there have not yet been any official offers for the full-back but
believes a move away from Porto this summer is a possibility.
The Uruguay international is under contract with Porto until the summer of 2016 and is valued at
around €30million (£23.8m).
However, he has reportedly attracted the interest of a number of leading European clubs, including
Chelsea, Tottenham and Liverpool.
Porto defender Alvaro Pereira is using tonight's Europa League clash with Manchester City to
promote the cause of the bun: it's not just for seven-year-old girls. Hopefully Mario Balotelli has
taken note and got some inspiration for his next hairdo.
Porto's Alvaro Pereira has warned Manchester United defender Patrice Evra that he will be a marked
man when France play Uruguay in a friendly later in the year.Pereira, who plays alongside Luis
Suarez in the Uruguay national team, recently accused Evra of having an 'inferiority complex'; now,
he's made it clear that the left-back will have to watch his back in what is primed to be an

It seems that even if AVB tells the board that he wants us to meet the minimum fee release clause
in Alvaro Pereira's contract, Porto are determined to hold onto him.
The Porto president, Pinto Da Costa has told Chelsea to simply forget about making any moves for
the player as he won't be sold.
With a lot of recent rumours linking Arsenal to full backs such as
Andreas Beck of Hoffenheim and Porto's Alvaro Pereira, maybe Arsene Wenger might be on the lookout
for another defender. But is he in for a LB or RB, Pereira is more left sided whilst Beck can play
both.
Chelsea are officially locked in talks with Portuguese champions FC Porto over the potential
transfer of full-back Alvaro Pereira.
Pereira, who was linked with Liverpool throughout the summer before Reds boss Kenny Dalglish
swooped for Spaniard Jose Enrique, is an attractive option for the Blues as he thrived under
manager Andre Villas-Boas at Porto last year.
Let's be honest, apart from the four signings we have made this summer in Piazon, Romeu, Courtious
and Lukaku, we have all been pretty much sitting here waiting for some big names to come and join
our squad.
We have seen the likes of City, United and Liverpool splashing silly money on rebuilding and
strengthening their squad and have yet to see Chelsea do the same.
Chelsea are facing a battle with big-spending Paris Saint-Germain over Porto wing back Alvaro
Pereira. Andre Villas-Boas is keen to bring in a replacement for Yuri Zhirkov.

Arsenal are being linked with a summer move for Uruguay defender and reported Liverpool target
Alvaro Pereira.
The Porto full back has been linked with a move away from the Estádio do Dragão following the
departure of Andre Villas-Boas, with Juventus also thought to be keen on the 25-year-old.
According to Daily Mail, Liverpool are set to renew their interest in Hamburg left-back
Marcell while also pursuing F.C. Porto midfielder Alvaro Pereira.
While the interest Pereira is certainly surprising due to the plethora of midfielders already at
the disposal of manager Kenny Dalglish, the pursuit of Janset is only to be expected.
Liverpool back in for Marcell Jansen and Alvaro Pereira
Liverpool are again looking at Germany left back Marcell Jansen of Hamburg and Porto's Alvaro
Pereira. The Anfield club's search for a left back has so far proved fruitless.

Chelsea cash plus player bid for Liverpool's Raul Meireles rejected
• Anfield club offered £7m plus Yossi Benayoun back • Chelsea still hope to sign Luka
Modric and Alvaro Pereira Chelsea have had an offer rejected for the Liverpool midfielder Raul
Meireles of £7m plus Yossi Benayoun as a makeweight.
Liverpool have announced on the club's official website that Newcastle United left-back Jose
Enrique is traveling to Merseyside for a medical as the two clubs have reached an agreement over
the player's transfer fee.
Enrique, who joined the Magpies from La Liga outfit Villarreal in 2007, has been on the Reds'
radar for quite a while now along with Germany international Marcell Jansen and FC Porto's Alvaro
Pereira.
Uruguay just about made it to the Copa America knockout stage as Alvaro Pereira's goal proved
decisive. But if you were Luis Suarez or Diego Forlan the match was a nightmare with their poor
finishing. Mexico fielding a team of second stringers proved to be a tough team to breakdown.
calcio maravilla.
I'm not particularly glad that Manchester City won this one, but I'm deliriously cock-a-hoopÂ
that Porto lost  and for one, sole reason: Hulk. Jesus wept, what an overrated pile of festering
guano that man is. Shite touch after shite touch followed by pleading tumble after pleading
tumble.
Not the final everyone assumed 3 weeks ago, but it's the final nonetheless. Paraguay have
reached the final game by not even winning a game. 5 draws, 2 shootouts, 5 goals scored, 5 goals
against. They're hoping this one goes to penalties. Uruguay though are a talented team lead by the
two pronged attack of Forlan and Suarez.
