The Missouri Comets magic number for clinching a playoff birth this year is now down to 1, after an 18-9 win over the Baltimore Blast at the Independence Event Center. The win, coupled with a 6-3 loss to the Milwaukee Wave in Milwaukee leaves the Comets 1 win or 1 Wichita loss away from clinching a spot in the playoffs this year.

By the end of the Wednesday night's contest at the Independence Events Center the scoreboard looked more like that of a blowout football game rather than a soccer match as the Missouri Comets routed the Syracuse Silver Knights 33 to 12. The Comets showed every indication that they're starting to hit their stride as they improved their record to 11-8 and continued to make their playoff push to secure the second spot in the Central Division with their second win in a row.

It was a big night for the Missouri Comets as they set multiple records at the Independence Events Center in their 33-12 rout over the Syracuse Silver Knights. They set a team record for the largest margin of victory since the teams rebirth, with 21. They tied a league record with 3 players recording a hattrick (Byron Alvarez, Geison, and Vahid Assadpour).

The Missouri Comets found themselves in a position they've been in quite a few times this season, trailing by a few goals with little time left in the game. Last night in Milwaukee it was the 9 points as the Wave took an 11-2 lead early in the 4th quarter before the Comets made a comeback to cut the lead to 11-7 by the final whistle.

Two days after the Comets fought back to defeat the Wichita Wings in a close game at the Independence Events Center, the Comets found themselves having to do it again against the Wings, this time in Wichita. Unfortunately the result wasn't the same as the Wings pulled off a 12-10 win over the Comets to get their first win in the series.

Stifled for two and a half quarters by a stingy Wings defense and a stellar effort by Wichita's goalkeeper, Senaldo, the Missouri Comets were down 7 - 2 and perhaps one more Wings goal from being out of the game and disappointing a large holiday week crowd of 4,583 at the Independence Events Center on Wednesday night.

The Comets looked like they were going to give the Wichita Wings a leg back into the Turpike Trophy competition between the two teams. Poor shooting and some good goalkeeping Sanaldo had the Comets facing a 7-2 deficit heading into the fourth quarter, but 4 unanswered goals saw the Comets pull out the 10-7 win taking a 3-0 lead in their series with the Wings.

The score was a lot closer than the scoreline appeared, but the Comets saw their 4 game winning streak snapped last night in Baltimore as the Comets fell to the Blast 17-9. Playing without captain Byron Alvarez and defender Bryan Harris, the task was already a big ask for the Comets. Some defensive mistakes once again cost the Comets early as Shaun David capitalized on a poor back pass to Danny Waltman a little over a minute into the game.

NORFOLK SHARX STILL HUNGRY FOR FIRST WIN Drop home match to Missouri 15-4
Norfolk, Virginia – The Norfolk SharX looked threatening in the first half of Saturday night's game against Missouri at Norfolk Scope Arena but were only able to capitalize once for two points during the first two periods.

After a hard fought, dramatic late game victory over the Baltimore Blast on Friday night, the Comets went into Norfolk for the second game of their road trip with high hopes. The Sharx have still yet to win a game in the league this season, and in most of the games they've played they've not been close.

After taking a 10-9 lead early in the 2nd half, the Comets poured on 7 unanswered goals for the 23-10 victory. Lucas Rodriguez, Byron Alvarez and Brian Harris had two goals apiece and Rodriguez and Ryan Junge led the team with five points.

(Milwaukee, WI) They say that defense wins championships and that the best defense is a good offense. The Milwaukee Wave proved both tonight, handing the Comets their 3rd loss of the season, 24-18. Byron Alvarez, Neto and Geison each had two goals for the Comets and the team outscored the Wave 8-2 in the 4th quarter, but not even that was enough to give the Comets a road win.

It will be a battle of balanced teams when the Milwaukee Wave host the Missouri Comets at the US Cellular Arena, Friday night at 7PM. The Wave will be looking to remain the only unbeaten team in the Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL), While the Comets will attempt to lessen the gap between themselves and the Central Division leading Milwaukee Wave.

It was really Alvarez's night. In addition to scoring two goals and having a couple thousand t-shirts with his name and number on it handed out, he may have set a first for the Comets . Alvarez may have become the first Missouri Comet to score at halftime when he proposed to his girlfriend Jenni Ford and she accepted.

I didn't make it out to the Independence Events Center for the game last night, but watched the majority of the game on the league's website. The Comets let the Norfolk Sharx stick around for a half, in fact the Sharx grabbed only their second lead of the season when they went up 5-2 in the first quarter.

Maybe I need to go back to my Sporting KC recovery stage for the Comets to win games. Since I finally "recovered" and started really covering the Comets again this year, the team has gone 0-2. When I wasn't, they were 3-0.
Yesterday afternoon at the Independence Event Center, the Comets fell to the defending MISL Champions, Milwaukee Wave 11-6.

The Comets once again faced an expansion team making their home debut. Once again, they relished playing the role of spoiler as they control play from the start and go home with a 13-4 win.
