As we all already know, Fernando Torres missed last night's Liverpool match against Aston Villa to witness the birth of his second child. We're now giddy-with-glee to confirm that Olalla gave birth to a baby boy, Leo, late yesterday. The footy world was rocked to its core [as were the pastry shops within 10 kilometers of our flats] so much so that the baby's birth was not reported according to the time of day, but rather, what minute mark of Liverpool's match (the 74th, FYI).

First of all, hearty congratulations to Fernando Torres on the birth of his 2nd child. Having said that, never has the the news of impending child birth been greeted with such wariness by the Kop. Stevie, Carra and Nando, probably the 3 most important players in the team, all missing.

Jose Mourinho will have to miss his side's upcoming match this Wednesday in the Champions League against Auxerre, but the Real Madrid manager will not have to worry about serving any further penalties for his role in the red card incident in Los Blancos last Champions League match.

Mourinho, who was accused of telling his players to commit deliberate penalites in order to sit out this week's upcoming meaningless match, was originally suspended for one match and fined $160,000 by the UEFA.

The Superdraft will be one of the best ways for the Sounders to get some depth in key positions. A number of commentators believe it could be one of the deeper drafts in MLS history.

The draft will be important for the Sounders this year since they are near the salary cap and still have some holes to fill.

"The way I look at it, it would take something special for me to leave Seattle right now. Our team is very young and I have played with Fredy Montero and Ozzie Alonso for two years now. I think we're getting to the stage where Columbus and Houston got to, where the team has been together and things become automatic," he said.

The search for the "regista"

We aren't going to find a true "Xavi" because this is the MLS. The closest we have right now is probably Brad Evans, who unfortunately was almost ruined this last year before his injury with the tragicomic attempt to play him at center forward or right wing.

The Spanish daily sports paper Marca has named Tottenham's Gareth Bale in their best XI of 2010. Bale was the only Premier League player to make the side, with Maicon the only other non-La Liga player to be named.

Bale was picked as the team's left back in a 4-3-3 formation. Let's just hope that's he's not playing out in Spain next season.
