Apologies for the lack of posting but I came down with a case of bird flu and when you've got the bird flu you have to adhere to a strict diet of no cigarettes or alcohol which means no blog posts. But I'm back and slightly intoxicated and here to tell you about this little match we have coming up on Saturday.

After missing out on top transfer targets Xabi Alonso and Gokhan Inler last night, at least Arsene Wenger signed up promising youngsters Mark Randall and Keiran Gibbs on new contracts. The pair arrived at the Emirates in 2006 and after impressing in their first year with the Gunners they went on to sign professional terms in [.

Morning all,

it's a very quiet start to what we all hope is going to be a very busy day. It's transfer deadline day and clubs have until midnight tonight to bring in new players before the window shuts and they have to make do with their squads until January.

Obviously we're all going to be watching anxiously, breath bated, to see if Arsene gets his chequebook out.

Reina
Arbeloa Carragher Skrtel Aurelio
Benayoun Alonso Mascherano Riera
Kuyt Keane
Goals:
Tevez 3'
Brown (og) 26'
Babel 77'
Finally. And what a way to do it.
United made a dream start, with early pressure leading to a Tevez goal within three minutes when Berbatov beat two men to the byline and was able to cut back to Tevez (Mascherano failed to follow him into the box).

Some would agree that this was an absolute borefest while others would not. Martin O'Neil and Rafa didn't get into a scrap and Barry didn't cry so it was definitely not the grudge match we were hoping for. For me, the game pretty much ended when Torres came out with a pulled hamstring because at that point the attack threat was gone.

It's deadline day, an enjoyable performance, and Barton the thug.

Morning, or should I say afternoon, fellow gooners.
Apologies for no blog over the weekend. I was in the process of moving house, something i will have to do again by the end of the month. What joy.
As such, I only caught the second half of the Newcastle performance, but what I did see was rather lovely.

I barely get into the house and it's 1-1 in the Open Cup final. Luciano Emilio scores for DC, and gets hurt. Charleston responds in the 10th minute with a nice finish after some sloppy defending. We have ourselves a match, ladies and gentlemen.
I bet Charleston would've done better in the CONCACAF Champions League than New England did.

No signings means its doom vs. hope.

Well, it was quite a deadline day, wasn't it?
I think the activities that went on regarding other clubs - United's shameful flouting of almost all transfer rules and conventions to steal Berbatov, Abu Dhabi suddenly owning Citeh, and turning them into a major player in one fowl swoop - need to be discussed elsewhere, and in depth.

Guess at a squad:
Reina
Arbeloa Carragher Skrtel Dossena
Kuyt Gerrard Alonso Riera
Torres Keane
In my guess at a squad, I'm assuming Gerrard and Torres are fit enough to start, although, like over the weekend, it'll be a late decision.

It was exactly what was feared. When the best you can say was at least Liverpool didn't lose, against a team many tip for relegation, it's not a good day at the office.
It's bad, bad déjà vu reminiscent of the draw against Birmingham early last season, except the strike force was Torres and Keane instead of Kuyt and Voronin.

At some point yesterday morning, just as hopes of a last-minute midfield reinforcement were fading, an article with the title 'Wenger - Eboue is becoming a pass master' appeared on the official site. In it, Wenger explained how "Since the start of the season, Eboue has played well".

Slick timing: our last-minute bid for Alonso fails so it's time to big up one of our new central midfielders - Emmanuel Eboue.

The greatest thing about beating [finally] Manchester United, is that the lads performed very well in doing so, and this without Torres and before Gerrard even got on the pitch. Very attack minded, excellent possession, and dominant for the majority of the match.
How can I even begin to choose a man of the match, there was so many stand out performances.

Just as promised: hands up, I was wrong. Liverpool deployed the 4-4-2, with Alonso for Mascherano because of injury the only deviation from my guess at a squad, and Liverpool leave Goodison two-nil winners thanks to the genius of Fernando Torres.
