An excellent three-points at the Reebok against a team that used to intimidate us, and who managed
to put us on the back foot in the early stages of the game.
Despite opening brightly, and comprehensively out-passing Bolton, they took the lead through a goal
which, again, asked questions of our ability to defend from set-pieces.
This post is moan.
The referee in the Dynamo Kiev - Arsenal match called a penalty on Bacary Sagna when the actual
incident was a foul by the Dynamo Kiev foward; one worthy of a yellow card.
The call was a mistake. Mistakes happen, and it was a clever bit of cheating by the forward,
reaching behind his back, grabbing Sagna's jersey, falling, and bringing Sagna down with him.
It would be hard to have many complaints after such a convincing performance away to Blackburn
yesterday. To be fair to Blackburn 4-0 does not tell the entire story, things could have been a
little different if certain chances had been taken, however only a lunatic would claim that Arsenal
didn't deserve the sound victory.
Another game, another easy win at the Emirates. It was at times a pleasure to watch, and at
other times, agonizing (ok, to an extent) to see the opportunities missed. The final score should
have been 6-0. At least. Undue pessimism aside, it was a very good result for Wenger's kids.
Important to note that it was Cesc's 200th Arsenal appearance - rather amazing for a 21 year
old.
Arsenal, and especially Arsene Wenger, continue with their quest to win the UEFA Champions League
and prove themselves as being one of the best teams in Europe. They qualified with ease against
Twente, winning 6-0 on aggregate, and they will feel confident they can come out of this group and
earn a place in the [.
Nicklas Bendtner and Emmanuel Eboue have been handed starts by Arsene Wenger as the Gunners' take
on Bolton later this evening. Dutch forward Robin van Persie has been dropped to the bench, while
Theo Walcott is also replaced despite putting in a energetic performance against Dynamo Kiev during
midweek.
Arsenal took on a tough Bolton side at the Reebok this afternoon looking to extend their points in
the Premier League table. Arsene Wenger left Robin van Persie and England ace Theo Walcott on the
bench for the trip to the Reebok Stadium. Nicklas Bendtner was handed a start to partner Emmanuel
Adebayor up front and Emmanuel [.
Yes, it's hardly something to get overly excited about (although I love this kind of
enthusiasm). But good times call for celebration, even through just five games of the season, as
Arsenal sits on top, one point ahead of Chelsea and Liverpool. The biggest point of triumph is the
elimination of the dropped points at Fulham.
Well that was a nice way to get things going again, eh?
Blackburn away is never easy, it wasn't easy yesterday, but we spanked home 4 goals meaning in
the last 3 games we've scored 10 and conceded none. It's good preparation for the midweek trip to
the Ukraine and we didn't suffer any kind of Interlull hangover which we are prone to now and
again.
Having missed the midweek CL clash at Kiev, I was really looking forward to this match.
For the third away game in a week, the Arsenal team looked a little different from the one at
Blackburn and Kiev. Robin van Persie was given a rest with Bendtner taking his place. Eboue started
on the left of midfield.
Not quite a manifesto, but a brief statement voicing support for Arsenal's central defense against
a rising tide of unanimity that it's flawed:
I like the Arsenal defense as it is. They've shown some vulnerability on set pieces, and Arsenal
have been conceding a lot of chances so far in the league, although between poor finishing and
Almunia's keeping they haven't conceded many goals; but I rate the four defenders (Clichy, Gallas,
Toure, and Sagna) as individuals and as a back four.
