Deportivo has remained strong early on in the year and the squad is currently in fifth place trailing four clubs that are all red hot. They should remain a top five club by the end of the week as they play the very inconsistent (but bad in La Liga so far) Atletico Madrid.

Don’t write them off; Barcelona are still the best in Europe

SoccerLens 26 October @ 10:52 AM EST

What a shocking couple of weeks it had been for the Catalans.

They have torn through all and sundry in La Liga up until their hosting of Almeria at the Camp Nou on October 4th. They may have come away with the result but it's a sign of the times that ONLY a 1-0 win for Barcelona is considered a bad performance.

Transfer Talk: Centerback Renewals Upcoming

Barcelista 24 October @ 08:53 AM EST
- Friday night = party night, and last night we actually had something to celebrate: Puyol has agreed to a contract renewal, finally! Formalities and official signings and whatnot will take place in the coming days, but the important thing is they've made the deal, El Capitan is onboard till 2013 and, hopefully, he'll be here till he retires. Xavi feels the pressure

Soccerblog 23 October @ 08:14 AM EST

By Barca's high standards this year's CL performance has been shocking. A bare four points and tied with Dynamo Kyiv and Rubin Kazan at the half way mark in the group stage is not what Pep Guardiola and Xavi had in mind.

Xavi sounded a bit defensive, when he said that all the talk of an end of a cycle was nonsense and that the defeat against Rubin Kazan was unexpected.

Pedro received a pass with his back to goal, moved slightly past the defender and sent the ball swerwing past the Almeria goalkeeper Diego Alves before he actually realised that the ball was coming his way. That was the sum total of the goals in the game.Barcelona looked a bit weary of life and for most of the rest of the game the ball was kicked back and forth in a desultory fashion.

Almeria came to the Camp Nou trying to put the first blemish on FC Barcelona's perfect La Liga record. From the starting whistle it became very obvious what manager Hugo Sanchez had in mind to control Barcelona's powerful offense.
