If you read the blog regularly, you know we have a Funny Feeling Friday column during the Premier
League season - where I basically try and justify a gut instinct I have about an unpopular, out of
form, or underrated player who I believe will step up his game in the near future.
(yes, we are borderline obnoxious with alliteration...)
The United States has reached the semifinals of the second consecutive major international
tournament (remember that Spain game in South Africa?), and the Official U.S. Soccer Bars are ready
to host you for a Thursday matinee. The two-time defending champions take on Honduras - again -
with a spot in the championship match of the Gold Cup on the line.
What more can be said about Arthur Fonzarelli's Liverpool (and Fernando Torres) on the weekend?
A combination of relentless attacking football and a team clearly out of sorts at the back
("Kettle, you're black") left Liverpool three points back from the top with a Sunday trip to
Stamford Bridge looming large in league.
If the draw at Bolton a few weeks back was a game the Tottenham of old would have certainly lost,
then today's hard fought 2-1 win down at Portsmouth was definitely in the same bracket. Ahead
through a well placed header from Ledley King and a marvellously worked goal from Jermain Defoe,
Spurs then contrived to find themselves under overwhelming pressure for much of the second half.
