The Professional Footballers' Association's comprehensive list of free agents is as lengthy as it
is depressing. There are the hundreds of players who are still in their teens - footballers I have
never heard of but ones whose professional careers could be set to end in their infancy.
Then there are the likes of Liam Rosenior, Jeremie Aliadiere, Lee Hendrie, Francis Jeffers,
Keith Gillespie, Russell Hoult, Gavin Mahon, Jay DeMerit, Barry Hayles - all experienced performers
at a variety of levels, all united by the fact they are without a club.
Jeremie Aliadiere's injury nightmare on Teesside is set to continue after the midfielder/striker
was ruled out for six weeks yesterday with a broken toe. The 26-year-old had just returned from the
treatment table having been out of action for several weeks but now it seems that the Frenchman may
face being sidelined for the rest of the season.
Jeremie Aliadiere's return to the first-team has given Gordon Strachan extra options in the
final third of the pitch as he hopes to strengthen our resolve in the goal scoring department which
has blighted our progression this season in the Championship.
Once again the Frenchman has been hit with injuries this season which have plagued his Boro
career since joining us in 2007.
Boro have threatened both Newcastle United and Derby County in the space of three days but the
opposition were also resilient enough to produce goals of their own which resulted in two
consecutive draws. Strachan will be pleased with the way we have been creating chances at one end
of the reason but will be less than happy when he looks at the last four goals we have
conceded.
Liverpool made one of their brightest moves by resigning Fabio Aurelio from the free
transfer list on the 1st of August. He was one of many good players without a club for the upcoming
season and here a few more gems...
Goalkeeper
There isn't many top class keepers on a free since Jameo got snapped up, the only one worth
looking at in my eyes is Casper Ankergren, formerly of Leeds, as everytime I saw
his last year he made some blinding saves.
- McBoro's recurits from Scotland
An accusation one could not level at the NPower Championship, is that it is predictable.
Whilst last season's top two, in Newcastle and West Brom, were streets ahead of the field, the
reminder of the division was a topsy-turvy mix of teams doing the opposite of what was expected of
them.
Former Middlesbrough player Jeremie Aliadiere has pitched up at Upton Park to try and land a
deal with the Premier League club after he failed to extend his stay on Teesside. The luxury
player, who is a free agent, scored 12 goals in 78 appearances for us in a three-year spell in the
North-East and is now trying to grab a contract with West Ham United.
