Ali Gerba - Most popular for 2010

My head is swirling with the names of players who would look good in TFC red. The day of the MLS
Cup 2010 press conference I was also expecting information on changes to the Designated Player
rule. Here it comes, I thought, when GOL TV interviewed The Garber. But The Garber ducked the DP
question from Lee Godfrey.
Toronto FC signed Ali Gerba with hopes of having the Canadian national team striker be the
goal-scoring threat the club had been looking for.
It didn't quite work out that way.
TFC parted ways with Gerba on Monday, terminating his contract and ending a brief tenure that
saw him score just one goal in 11 appearances in 2009.
The man who has now become Toronto's hardest hitting football journalist, The Score's Kristian
Jack, has done it again. Not long after getting an exclusive interview with former striker Ali
Gerba, Jack has got the first no-holds-barred interview with former TFC interim manager Chris
Cummins.
What the likeable and very genuine, Cummins has to say about Mo Johnston's meddling, backhanded
ways is truly shocking.
Sorry EB14, but people are going to quit talking about you for a minute. Former Toronto FC striker
Ali Gerba has just given an interview to Canada's The Score in which he calls MoJo and/or Preki a
"fraud", says that he's "not a rapist" and in no uncertain terms lays out that the team's lack of
success is not the fault of the players or the club but the coach.

Toronto FC is in the midst of a two-match winning streak, so you would think the talk around
Toronto would be about Dwayne DeRosario's recent goal-scoring binge and TFC's improved defense.
Instead, the talk is centered around recent criticisms of the club from former interim head
coach Chris Cummins and former player Ali Gerba, who both singled out TFC director of soccer Mo
Johnston for the brunt of their criticism.
D.C. United central defender Dejan Jakovic played a full 90 minutes for Canada over the weekend
in an international friendly against Jamaica. The Canadians fell 1-0 in Kingston before a crowd of
18,000, as Jakovic continued to build upon his national team experience. The Croatian-born
centerback has become a strong contributor to Canada's fortunes since making his full international
debut against Martinique on January 30, 2008.
With J Hutcherson -- Just when you thought Toronto FC couldn't get more cuddly with their player
relations, they've gone the public humiliation route. Per a press release this morning, Ali Gerba
has been sent to the principal's office. ""Ali's performance this pre-season has not been up to our
expectations," said manager, director of soccer Mo Johnston.
Is it just me or has The Score become the biggest instigator in Canada since Ty Domy? Hot on the
heels of their 17 minutes in Ali Gerba-heaven video they've got a half-hour of former Toronto coach
Chris Cummins just going off on the phone on MoJo and TFC. If you don't have a spare 30 minutes to
watch the whole shebangabang, here's the highlights.

"Running Toronto FC since Day One"After the damning interviews of Ali Gerba and Chris Cummins, it looks as if "Team Mo" aka Barry
MacLean and the First Wave agency along side Toronto FC FO are circling the wagons. In an interview
on Soccer By Ives (which is reknownedly friendly to the Mo Regime) fellow First Wave client and
former TFC Head Coach John Carver has come out in his defence.

The second day of USSF D2 awards saw Ryan Pore walk away the big winner, as the league's leading
goal-scorer was also named the Second Division MVP on Thursday.
Pore carried most of Portland's offense throughout the 2010 season, and was also named a member
of the D2 Best XI.
Much like the corn sprouts in the summer, January means Farmer Mo is out harvesting his crop of
trialists for TFC training camp. The supporters get excited over the possibilities like Jorge
Andrade and Ibrahim Said even if past crops such as Kiki Musampa withered in the Florida sun. The
anticipation is on both sides however, the trialists themselves usually come to Toronto with little
knowledge of the city or the club.
Major League Soccer standouts have not only made their stamp in the English Premier League, but at
the international level as well.
Paul Kennedy of Soccer America reports on 11 MLS players - four for Jamaica and seven for Canada -
participated in the friendly between Jamaica and Canada.
Good evening folks. We are here in Orlando for tonight's Disney Soccer Classic Final between the
New York Red BUlls and Toronto FC.
I will be providing commentary throughout the night so please feel free to follow along here. As
always, you are welcome to share your thoughts and opinions in the comments section below.
Still Kicking is away this weekend, joining the jet set, skiing in Cortina d'ampezzo. Ok, not
falling for that one? Would you believe he's on the ski hill at Centennial Park? Thought as much.
So, once again I find myself as a trialist in Stillkicking's pre-season friendly. Maybe I'll be
signed, maybe not.
Out with the old, in with the new -- or so the saying goes.
That adage sums up Preki's move to Toronto FC. The old system and coach is now gone, and now
it's up to the former U.S. international to lead the Reds to a place they've never gone before: the
playoffs.
Is Preki up to it?

With BMO Field selected as the 2010 MLS Cup host, Toronto F.C. has a bit more motivation at
reaching the promised land.
The only problem is, the team doesn't quite have the horses to get there.
Preki enters his first season as Toronto coach with a lot of work to do.
Please indulge me, I am going to take a moment to toot my own horn and wave my own flag.
Entering season 4, I think I have maintained this blog at a decent rate over the years. All games
covered. All trades, signings and draft picks mentioned. Lately I have been finding it hard to keep
the old blog up to date.
Ali Gerba is no longer a member of Toronto FC after agreeing to terminate his contract on Monday.
Gerba had been with the club since last June, with one goal in 11 appearances. "We want to wish Ali
all the best, and thank him for his contribution to the club" director of soccer Mo Johnston said
in a press statement.
Ali Gerba's disappointing tenure with Toronto FC officially came to an end on Monday, as the club
announced in a press release that they have terminated the Canadian international forward's
contract.
"We want to wish Ali all the best, and thank him for his contribution to the club," said TFC
director of soccer Mo Johnston in a statement.

"Oh my God! Someone ate Ali's 'McRib'! Look out!"Speaking of the ever elusive
McRib Sandwich, that little faux pork delicacy has had longer
visits to Toronto than Ali Gerba himself. Much like Ronald's limited time offers, Mo Johnston
pulled Gerba from the BMO Field shelf today too.

Gerba-licious!All of that hard work of one match means TFC deserves a two week break. 90 minutes work over 14
days is tough you know! It's not all rest and relaxation though. It's a chance for the kinks to be
worked out (i.e. an offence) and new signings to be brought in by Mo Johnston (i.

"It's called Scottish Offseason... it absolutely reeks of inactivity"
- The rumours are floating heavily that an announcement is imminent from
MLS that Toronto will host the 2010 MLS Cup Final. The match would be played at BMO Field in late
November. Brrr!

Gerba: open up frontIn the world of football it is rare for an active player to come out and speak openly about the
reasons he is no longer with a club. It is equally rare in Toronto for a reporter to have an actual
in-depth journalistic interview with a member (or ex-member) of TFC.

STARTERSWe have all seen the USA blue shirts, and debated all the pros and cons, and on Thu Apr 29 we will
get to do the same with the 2nd kit, which we all assume will be white.
Everyone wants the blog to be up to date with events in the world of TFC, but the reality of my
life is such an obstacle. I work, I spend hours commuting, I am wrapping up my online course and
practices for one of the two soccer teams that I coach are now twice a week. So I am going to try
for Friday posts as both a look back at what caught my attention (or your attention) and a preview
for the upcoming weekend game.
With TFC captain Jim Brennan's retirement today, the entire squad from Toronto FC's inaugural
season is now officially gone. We already lost Carl Robinson and Marvell Wynne before the season
began, but now it feels complete. As TFC's first signing and captain, Jim Brennan was a constant in
the squad and a face for the team.
I'm seriously doing this. I'm looking at that task list I posted and completing it. Step one was
simple, look at the players available that were already on the team. The list seemed rather
balanced between young and old, between target types, and ball at feet.
Step two was a bit more complex.

Austin and Rochester keep on rolling through USSF D-2 opposition.
In upstate New York, the Rhinos kept a firm hold on first place in both the overall standings
and the USL Conference, defeating Miami FC by a 3-1 score.
Down in Texas, the Aztex were not going to be outdone, holding off a comeback by the Carolina
Railhawks to win 3-2.
Ali Gerba, the well-traveled Canadian international striker, was released in April of this year
after playing only eleven matches with Toronto FC. He wasn't out of work for long, however, as he
was signed in July by the Montreal Impact of the NASL. We sat down with Mr. Gerba, pictured below,
in Montreal to see how life was treating him in the NASL.

Two of the top teams in USSF Division 2 squared off Sunday evening, as the Austin Aztex
concluded a swing to the Northwest to take on Vancouver. An entertaining 2-2 draw showed how little
their was between two the league's finest.
The host Whitecaps have to feel the worse off after this one, failing to hold on to two separate
leads -- going ahead through Cornelius Stewart's 14th minute strike, then again thanks to new
signing Ridge Mobulu in the 52nd minute.
Last one to fall off is TFC's new striker
As the last few hours of August slip away, the signs of summer's end are upon us. Oooh, I've
gone all Robert Frost. Alas, (so highbrow!) the first leaves are beginning to fall, the sun is
setting that wee bit earlier... and of course Toronto FC is slipping out of the playoff
picture.
Squizz's case for bringing back the blubbery if not exactly lovable Ali Gerba to the national team
fold. Not much there to argue with, really.

For the first time in a long time, all 12 USSF D-2 will be in action this weekend.
With the playoff race creating pressure in almost every match, eyes will be on Rochester as the
Rhinos play host to the FC Tampa Bay Rowdies (7:00 p.m., Saturday).

The Carolina Railhawks became the latest USSF Division 2 to officially secure a playoff spot
over the weekend.
With only a handful of games remaining in second division play, Carolina's 4-2 win over
struggling Crystal Palace locked up the fifth playoff spot in postseason play.

With a 4-2 loss Wednesday night to Miami FC, the dim USSF D-2 playoff aspirations of first-year
club A.C. St. Louis were finally extinguished.
Abe Thompson proved to be too much for the St. Louis defense to handle in Miami, netting a hat
trick and seeing Miami to their third straight win of the season, eliminating any remaining hope of
postseason action for the visitors.

With the eight playoff teams in USSF D-2 now set, determining those first round matches is the
only thing left to resolve.
Vancouver and Montreal will get one more chance to face off (Friday, 10:30 p.m.) before the
Canadian rivalry takes a year off in 2011 as the Whitecaps make the transition to MLS -- that is,
unless the two sides meet up in the postseason.
US Soccer released today the USSF D2 Pro League Player of the Year,
Goalkeeper of the Year and Starting 11 awards voted on by a panel
of journalists comprised of members of print, television, radio and online media hailing from each
of the 12 clubs' local markets, as well as the general manager and head coach of each team.
U.S. Soccer - Portland Timbers Ryan Pore Voted Most USSF D2 Pro League Most Valuable Player
Both Pore and Nolly appear on the Best XI, as does Defensive Player of the Year Greg Janicki.
Joining the Vancouver defender on the back line is a pair of Rochester Rhinos in Aaron Pitchkolin
